Knowing everything about an artist is not a measure of how much of a fan you are necessarily. I like history but I don't know jack about most of it. Doesn't mean I don't like history in general tho. Same deal with most the artists I listen to because I just enjoy the music as art and love it for the feeling I get when listening to a certain track. All I have to know about an artist personally is that I like some of their songs and that's enough for me tbh.
