- Rewriting Moonlight Sonata from start to finish.
Special thanks to Lone-R for his amazing production: bit.ly/Lone-R_YT
Standalone version: • Beethoven - Moonlight ...
PIANO-only version: • Beethoven - Moonlight ...
I'm livestreaming on Twitch! / musicalbasics
Please note, the professional master sounds "muffled" mainly because my own master is extremely metallic compared to most music. If someone heard the professional master by itself, they would enjoy it because it sounds balanced compared to most music.

Wow. Sorry but this is crap. I'm not particularly attached to classical music, and I actually like modern music, but your remix is so pedestrian and generic. Not to mention that the "professional" mix is horrible.
Lol…
Lol.
I agree with you. It's not a remix, it's a crime and the music is destroyed.
Yo Lionel did you learn from Gotham Chess to pin comments?
Edit : also pin of opinion
Honestly, hearing the "professional" mix and his mix together made me doubt the skill of this so called "professional". It was super grainy and muffled. His master was clear, crisp, and had more impact. Any additional impact the "pro" master had was lost in the muffled quality.
Difference between Amateur and Professional:
Whether you're under water or not
Exactly my sentiment. I thought it was just me.
I completely agree... and no, we are not alone with this. I just scrolled through the comments and it seems that most of the commenters are of the same opinion.
Yeah kinda sounds like that...
Kousei?
XDD indeed

@@yeetyote2866 I don’t think he meant the piece I think he meant it’s not hard for the hands to be faster than his internet in conclusion his internet is trash

But if he did, don't disrespect him too much either. Though he shouldn't unvalue my boy, Leo.

Preferred your mastering. The pro version was normalised to hell. Give me dynamic range every time ❤️ great work!
I agree his mix was better. Moonlight sonata requires dynamic range A good musician and engineer would appreciate it. Some “Mix engineers” are clouded by all the tools at their disposal. A lot of times less is more in mixing. Great video!
I preferred your work as well tbh
agreed
I could not agree more. For some things, compressing the mess out of the tracks to make it more "normal" is okay. In this case, it gets in the way of good music because you lose the dynamics. Classical is all about the feel.
I was about to write the same thing bro 😂
I can’t be the only one who thinks Lionel’s “amateur” version sounds wayyy better than the “professional” one
No you're not i completely agree
Yeah the professional was way toned down
The professional is like putting a pillow over a speaker. Pillows can be way cheaper than $20-100
Yea definitely
I tried to play music but my speaker was under water
Your "amateur" sound sounds SOOOOO much better than the professional ones in my opinion. The piano sound comes out more.
Exactly my opinion too. I liked the "amateur"version much more. The sound was cleaner and didn't sound like it came from an old musicbox
I totally agree.
I ask myself if it is supposed to be played in stereo beacause it clearly is missing sounds
The professional one made me feel like i was listening underwater :/
@@Hourox11 can confirm that the professional does sound better with stereo. The base is more emphasized but I still prefer the amateur
This isn't the _real_ 2020 Moonlight Sonata. The real 2020 version is the moon hurtling towards the Earth and falling on the piano
Haha true
Moonlight Sayonara
this made me lol
That's nothing compared to what America has been going through. Literally even in January there was political tension. Followed by coronavirus, riots, more coronavirus, presidential elections, and then even more coronavirus.
No, moonfall sayonara
Moon falls, goodbye world.
7:33 "Please leave a really angry comment for all of us to enjoy reading" XD
Peak sass, I LOVE it
A bit late but reading the comments and i was like wanting to write a quasi angry comment.
I tried to transelate peak sass but google didn't know what does it mean?
@@Crea-Bea-Explosie peak something means "it's so good that it can't get any better than that" for example peak efficiency is efficient to the point of not getting any more efficient.
Sass is like being passive aggressive, saying what you don't really mean. For example when you see a stupid message on discord and you reply "wow what a SMART comment" :)
Combining them together in peak sass means EXTREME PASSIVE AGGRESSIVENESS, because Lionel basically said that if you're angry about the video, you should just leave a comment about it for all of us to laugh about XD
Hope that helped :D

Why the heck is no one talking about how amazing that story about Beethoven was, I was completely hooked on it the whole time and the music complemented each other so well
Yeah. Stupid Elise. Sad reality nowadays.
@@SilVer-hu2ps that story is fiction.............. at least i think so..................
The story is good as usual. However nobody cares, because author seems to not feel competent and don't mention that, but in fact he is. Good work. His stories are sharp as his music and dramatic as comics stories.
The story gave me goosebumps

Bruh how are you everywhere?
Your amateur self mastering sounded sharper and had more oomf, there's sounded sort of dull and muted, filtered... I liked yours more haha
Same
Personally I think it was a perspective difference when approaching the piece. When he was doing it himself, he knows he wants the focus to be on the piano and really puts it's sound first in priority when mixing. The professional was likely handed the two pieces and told to mix them together so they did their best to give as much space for both of them but I agree I think they went overboard and played things generally too safe.
@@cinco_de_la_tarde No hate on the pro, but it's moonlight sonata it's the most iconic piano piece. He should know what to do with it. But he has that cookie cutter approach, most likely had a everything on a preset and just hit that and was done with it.
I think the original is more peaceful, which it was trying to be. This is a nightmare version, so it would be more energetic because its not trying to be peaceful.
Sometimes i think my old pieces were crap because i didn't master anything and had tons of stray frequencies lying around but then again... that's how it was made, and trying to "fix" them now... just doesn't seem to work :/
Sometimes you better leave things rough.
Except for that one song; i still regret not filtering that stupid hihat... rings all over the place... aaarrggh...!
I honestly don't like the "professional" versions. They sound like they are muffled or something. Yours is much better.
Yeah, you're right.
I want this masterpiece in Spotify NOW

Almost Everyone: Oh YESSSS!
One of the best remix music pieces you have composed in MUSICALBASICS! Really enjoy watching how you have accomplished the project! Incredible talent on composition as well as on piano performance! Great job!
Finally, someone who asks for the like after we actually get to see content first! That alone deserves alike but fortunately content was good. This should be available to purchase, I couldn't find nightmare versions.
Someone needs to animate or draw up a mini film that brings the closed captions to life. This is beyond amazing and seriously gives me goosebumps. Just imagine if there was an animation or film? Kudos to you!

Whoa, that was lit! Lone-R did an amazing job!
Also, does anyone else prefer the amateur master over the professional one? The professional overdid the bass or something in my opinion; I physically felt a difference in my ears while listening this on my headphones, and the difference was to the worse.
I always love the stories you connect to these. If I was an artist I would love to draw them comic style!
That was awesome!! You took one of my favorite pieces and spiced it up. Loved it. Well done sir.
Love your remastered version. So awesome 👌 👏
The professional master was not good at all. Heavy filter used sounds like it was thrown on the master channel. The beat drowned out the piano. Obviously this is all up to artistic interpretation, but for such an iconic song the piano should be in the front and the beat should accompany it, not the other way around.
The story, elise must be slapped. I got Beethoven's back on this one.
Na. I liked the tragedy. It complemented the music excellently

WHEW! That was... INSANE!!!!! This is an old video, but Lionel, like all great classics, it'll stand the test of time. A century or two into the future, if man is still alive, a pianist will sit down and play 'His version' of Moonlight Sonata, as revised by Lionel Yu, and the audience will go insane with applause. I es y to say that your version of Moonlight sonata really projects your spirit into the classic masterpiece. Many thanks for sharing it with us.
