Ah I have this fun to come soon. Still, doesn't look too bad of a job. Nice to still see a reasonably modern car with basic mechanicals to work on! Mad how long Fiat have been using this FIRE engine now.
Nice job! I also own a Fiat Grande Punto, and luckily never had any issues with oil leaks so far. In fact, I really haven't had any major issues with my car so far. The car has almost run a good 270.000KM, of which I rode 30.000KM myself. The only major thing that needed to be replaced was the original clutch, which hasn't been replaced since the car was built.
My mum ended up with a rusted out sump on her last Ford Focus. Before that I didn't realise rusty sumps were a thing. Good job, the new one will outlast the car 😂
Back in the 80's I owned a Fiat Strada 130 Abarth (Remember the TV ad? - "Built by robots, driven by fu**wits"....or something like that) and if you listened very, very carefully you could hear it slowly rotting away. A chap once told me that FIAT stands for - Fix It Again Tomorrow, and he worked for a Fiat dealership as the Head Technician, honestly. I'm sure they've come on leaps and bounds since then.......well apart from the sump pans being made from tin. Great vid, Rob :)
Cheers One Auto.Just did Mom's 2001 Palio 1.2 mpi which has the same sump. I didn't put enough sealant bead on the edge and had to redo the job. What a pain to clean off the old silicone underneath the block. The video is missing the most important part IMO that is to stage tighten the sump bolts with 15 min intervals as recommended by Reinzosil that I used. Why the Italians couldn't give it a conventional gasket is a mystery.Fix it tomorrow again.hahaha
Beats the old cork seals they used to come with. Modern sealer has cured many oil leaks on vintage machines, a necessity now that oil leaks = mot fail.
Thanks for this Rob, great tutorial with clear instructions, you've just saved me (or rather my son) a hefty bill - bought a 2007 Grande with a rusty sump & a minor oil-leak & found out on cleaning it up that the oil was seeping through the sump. Luckily the exhaust has been replaced recently, so came off easy, same old stubborn sump sealant though!
It's morning here so Good morning Rob! That sealant holding that sump was crazy strong. Nice work around on the exhaust flange. Complete with "Brassy nuts". (ha ha) I was just thinking if you were taller and let your hair grow longer you could be the next Edd China!
Just got a price for a new sump from Windsor's fiat heswal £316 for the sump and £360 to fit where did you get yours from? that price is off the reg and chassis no so defo the right part.
I have the 1.3 cdti fiat engine in my Combo I have done oil changes I have replaced the fuel filter assembly and more I think I’m getting more confidence to do jobs on my van rather than putting it into the garage I really need to replace my oil pan as it’s really rusty but not leaking yet.
Not really your ok to put it in straight away with this sealant as it's so thick. That being said it was about an hour before I put the oil in for this one due to other jobs and customers coming in.
Ive only just realised due to this video that that rusty circle of metal on the front is a support bracket , mine is in the same condition as this one . The bracket it bolts to is missing , does anyone know if it ava as a part to purchase , thanks
I'm doing this job on a 2010 Panda and I've just discovered that I need to take off the cat to remove the oil pan. Oh joy! But since I've got P0420 I might as well while I'm in there. A small oil change has turned into a two week job.
@@OneAuto I managed to remove (and completely mangle) the oil pan and take off the cat, and need to replace both. The cat because of an error code and the oil pan because of the removal process. I just discovered my radiator is rotten. This is the job that keeps on giving! Luckily I'm off for two weeks and I can just leave the car up on blocks for that time
@@michaelaustria75 it may be possible to just loosen it, but by then it's easier to just remove the cat, because it's about the same work. The heat shield has to come off, then undo exhaust manifold bolts and then unclamp the cat. There are more screws underneath that hold the cat and some clamps, it's not great, but not impossible either. What engine does your panda have? Is it front wheel drive or four wheel drive?
@@michaelaustria75 this video is very spot on, also for the Panda. *IMPORTANT* Get angled prying tools to take off the pan, unless it's already beyond salvage. If you need a new pan, get an original one. I bought a cheap one and the oil plug would not seal and neither did the rest of the pan, you'll never get it to seal to the block.
Cheers mate, helpfull video, good to show how to do it since there.s bunch of FIAT's on road with same engine. ;) Could u give a tip from where u buy the original parts? Any website?
the sump pan lasted about 5 years longer then it would have in my state. nice Job Rob!
That's very true Mike. Cheers 🍻
Great video. No fussing about, and clearly explained. 👍

Nice job Rob, good to see Fiat are still using naf metal and rusting. Some things never change especially when it comes to rust and Fiat.
Yep keeping us in business. Cheers 🍻

Cheers mate 👍
Hi Rob, we used to have a saying, "remember on a quiet night when you could hear Fiats rusting" seems it still applies.
Nice one.
that was alfas, not fiats
These parts are also rusted on your vehicle mate...
A crusty Fiat good to see some traditions are still going strong! Good work in all seriousness always interesting to see what you have in.
Cheers David 👍
clearest guy on the internet by far no waffle
Thanks for your video i have done my sump on my punto grande 1.4 petrol your video was so helpful cheers 🍻

Thanks for sharing Rob!

Enjoyed, for sure and for certain.
Nice work, Rob.
Thank you sir 👍
18:55 is when I remember the pan bolts/nuts I cleaned are laying about 30' away :))
how much would this cost to get done at a garage for parts + labour?
Cheers Rob , another good video production.
Cheers Chris 🍻
Next Saturday i am taking my grande punto to the garage to get a quotation for replacing the oil sump pan. How much should an honest quotation be?
Wow...I'll never complain about a stubborn oil pan ever again, that was rough! Nice job :)
I think you've just increased its market value!
Yeh probably :)
Nice job.
How much for be done this job ? Thank you
I have same problem
Another job well done sir . , Looks like some exhaust repairs in the future for you.
I think my homemade bracket will keep the exhaust safe until it drives down the auction lanes next week. Cheers Keith
Good video from India
Missing you man!
Worth checking the front metal coolant pipe for corrosion.
They tend to rot too.
They do indeed.
Ask me how I know! 😂
I have this exact problem with the sump on my punto. How much would you estimate it will cost to get repaired?
Would this be similar for a Fiat 500? My sump has rusted through, so would this tutorial be OK to follow?
Not sure as newer ones have a different engines. But most sumps are similar
Proper job there mate. I enjoyed it :-)
Thanks Jan 👍
did i see right that the sealant is use by july 2015?
Haha yes it did.. I never noticed that. There u go... if it tastes ok, ignore the sell by date 😂
Good gob!!!
That was a nasty & stubborn sump pan!
I know it always makes you think....have I taken all the bolts out 😊
Damn that sealant was holding on. If only they'd made the _entire_ oil pan from the same stuff. :-P
Yeah that would be better.
You could have left the fasteners out and I bet it wouldn't make any difference.

Steve Ward hi , what was the price for the repair? Thanks
He Rob. If you had a car where the oil leak wasn't so obvious what would you do to try find it?
2:20 is that the crank position sensor right at the front there
Yes... sooo tricky to get to those 😂

Good afternoon Wyatt. Yes the sealant is a good adhesive. As for Edd China, I don't have any orange gloves 🥊
Nice and shiny!
Not for long 😂
Cheers Rob good looking video production think it beats Eric O!! What battery ratchet do u use or recommend for the UK cheers Sandy
Thanks Sandy. I use Milwaukee M12 3/8 impact ratchet. Got it here www.automotive-consumable-supplies.com/product/milwaukee-m12-impact-ratchet-38/
Great vid Rob
Cheers

hi my mini cooper diesel has raised ridges around the lip of the sump instead of a Chanel for silicone, any ideas why ?
Nice work!
Great Video, thanks
Great video Rob were you been hiding not posted in a while
Family stuff and a well needed holiday. Back at it again
glad to see you back defo need a holiday for a recharge dont crash and burn will miss the videos
Yo tengo un Fiat Grande Punto 2007, el Carter es similar, le compré y se ve como el que le pusiste a ese Fiat, aplica igual? Motor 1.4
nice work can you tell me did you remove under engine cover or was there not one on it
They don’t have one fitted

Was from Fiat dealer. Cant remember the cost. You can get cheaper aftermarket ones. Sometimes they fit well but it can be a gamble
Nearly £700 😮😮😮😮😮
"the guys selling it and doesn't want to spend a lot of money" that old chestnut 😒
I wish I had a Ramp. No fun working on the Drive.
Very nice
Do you have to take off the exhaust to take the sump off? Or do you think you could work around it?
100% needs to come off
Why not change big end bearings while you are there?
Perfekt erklärt

13m is a bit overkill for a oil pan lol , good work.
Yeah just a bit. With that sealant you don't need any bolts
One Auto, I guess I'm on a one auto binge lol I guess I've seen this one already yet I watched it again 😂👍
Didn't realise you were based in Daventry; I only live a short scoot up the A5 in Hinckley.
What power tool do you use mate
Milwaukee 3/8” ratchet and 1/2” impact gun, Dewalt reciprocating saw and a cheapo die grinder
Good video, surely a sump should last the life of the car.
Yes if it's not one of these Fiats. Cheers 🍻
Do you put the oil right away? I normally let it sit for awhile, always concerned about oil leaks, maybe I been wasting time. Good job.

You can buy it from your local Fiat dealer
Sir my fiat linea sump threads are damaged . What I do
They will need re-tapping or drilling out and thread inserts installing. Get an engineer to do this if you don’t know how

skunkszecsi Thanks! I don’t know of any websites selling original fiat parts. Just my local dealer.
that did well for a french car
Fiat are Italian
@@ryantaylor1559 lol that was part of my joke mate 😂😅
I buy a new pan for fiat panda 1.2 2003 for 70€ and is good.
Fiat- Fix it again Tony.
Fix it again tomorrow 😊
I can't believe fiat still uses steel sumps. Majority of manufactures use aluminium and some are now plastic. Oh well keeps mechanics busy lol
It sure does
Sump full of sealant....
vladophilip ???
Don't force it .... get a bigger hammer !!!!
У меня завизжал насос...а на улице скоро зима.
(FIAT) FIX IT AGAIN TOMORROW
should just welded it
Weird design of Fiat to say the least.
Annak se volt gazdája,időbe rendbekellet volna hozni.!
don t use fiat sealer!!!! to tight, haha
