That is correct. Additional fun fact: In some cases languages evolved and now make a distinction between them. In ancient greece there was no blue for example but nowadays there is.
@Jaffacus Gameplay doesn't need to be especially "tight" to be good. And for those who want it, games like Celeste are both visually striking and have masterfully designed gameplay.
What a cute little game Jon. I really appreciate you getting out there trying out different games. Channels that have a specific game dev focus tend to get tunnel vision, but you're more spread out like how an actual gamer is. Even one's with a favorite game dev.
He actually is slightly colorblind IRL. Figure... maybe... possibly that's where some of the -1 Perception comes from? Actually... no.... he's just not good at seeing anything... in any color. :P
Well it is a grayish teal color (medium brightness, low saturation, very slightly more blue than green on most pixels I sampled), so it can be interpreted as either green or blue depending upon your display, lighting conditions, and what your brain decides about the context of the rest of the picture.
First guess I've got going into this: Gris means grey in Spanish, so it's got something to do with the Grey Goo theory. Edit: Nope, it seems I was way off the mark. Also, it being Spanish or possibly Latin would account for the non-French pronunciation.
This reminds me so much of Journey for the ps3... you were this.. robed thing.. and you saw a light in the distance and you had to make your way through various levels to get there. The girl even looks similar with the stick limbs and stuff
@@jaybone305 Well obviously it wasn't a life changing game. It was a beautiful experience, yes. However, it wasn't some super amazing you have to play this or you're not a gamer type game. It was something to enjoy, to experience. I still go back and play it once every so often..
A game you might like Jon, is Jotun. You walk around with a big axe, murdering embodiments of nordic runes. Oh, and it's amazing it's art style. It is a bit fast paced (2-3 hours of gameplay max) but the fact remains, it has all of Jon's favorite things; Mythology, Amazing Art, Fun powers, and gigantic structures.
Dear devs, anytime you have a game that you're not sure will be loved, check Jon's channel first. Several games I've seen him try and through his playthrough, was able to see how likely I was to like it. Even in genres I don't normally gravitate towards, his initial playthroughs have "shown me the light", as it were.
Please, for the love of everything holy, try GOROGOA!! Seriously, it's the most beautiful, touching, thought-provoking, creative puzzle game I've ever played.
The developers Nomada Studio may be based in Barcelona, but Gris still means pig in norwegian. It can be used both to describe the animal but also a mess like a kid who has made a mess in the kitchen.
As others have mentioned, gross is also Spanish for gray, and it is pronounced similarly to the French word, but with the s annunciated. It seems that the studio behind the game, Nomada, is Spanish. I suspect the pronunciation you were given is the gringo friendly one so that us Americans can say it 😉 I like the Spanish and French versions much better, with the slight roll of the r.
Jon you are correct with GRIS being grey in French, and can also mean dull (in colour), and the person who told you to pronounce it "grease" can also be correct, as that is the feminine pronunciation, which as she is a woman would be appropriate . Although then it should be spelt grise, so still remains a bit of a mystery.
@@MoonGuardian866 I didn't know the French had the same spelling, but because Jon says the pronunciation at the beginning, it's definitely the Spanish one
Gris is the Spanish word for the color gray. (Grey for us Americans iirc.) The pronunciation also fits.
Its also the swedish word for pig. Which i thought wad kinda funny considering the sub title XD
Actually it's the other way around. Americans primarily use "gray" while the Brits use "grey".
@@FuzzyNinjaful I think OP was paying deference to the fact that Jon is British and used grey instead of gray.
@@FuzzyNinjaful I use them both interchangably depending on which key my finger happens to hit. I never remember which one is correct. Lol
Gris means pig in my language....
In Spanish 'Gris' would be pronounced like 'greece' - and the studio that made this game is Spanish so it does seem to check out :)
Was about to comment that myself!
Fun Fact: Green and Blue are the same colour in a lot of languages.
That is correct. Additional fun fact: In some cases languages evolved and now make a distinction between them. In ancient greece there was no blue for example but nowadays there is.
Japanese as a "sort of" example says: green light= 青= blue
There are even theories that we weren't able to perceive the colour blue up until some time ago due to that.
Also fun fact: Yellow and blue make green in some contexts so by adding blue after yellow you created green.
@@a-blivvy-yus not sure how you add yellow and blue and NOT end up with green?
video games are getting more and more visually pleasing

Thanks for the variety on your channel, Jon, much appreciated, as always
Jon's minus one perception has evolved to include color blindness now.
He actually is slightly colorblind IRL. Figure... maybe... possibly that's where some of the -1 Perception comes from? Actually... no.... he's just not good at seeing anything... in any color. :P

The ASMR Clair at the end of this is totally worth the wait. Well done Clair.

This reminds me *so much* of Journey
right? it felt so similar almost immediately.
Jon, you didn't and don't need 3 of them to activate those.
I found civilization, but it seems to have fallen over. Nicely said.

The only real difference between the two pronunciations is the ess sound. If you leave that off the Spanish, you have the French.

@BaldurAnthology he actually did a couple videos on Journey. It was a bit controversial at the time
