Finished my 4th year of a bachelor of Construction Management (Applied Science) in 2018 and it only took me 3 weeks to find a job as an intern Construction estimator for a Construction firm. I am loving it!
@@william332 I'm a first year construction management student and I just wanted to know a few things. First, how was your 4 years and experiences while completing your degree? Also I want to be a project manager but how do I do that when most places require you to have experience?
@@dashawnglenn8819 My first year was quite a struggle as I found it hard to keep up with the demands of studying but the 3 years following I really enjoyed myself. It got to a point in my second year when I really thought 'this career is for me'. And then from there on I really enjoyed it. Most universities give their students work experience; especially the Construction Management courses, which require a lot of work experience. What university are you attending and are you getting experience in the workforce?. Don't hesitate to ask more questions.
@@william332 I go to wayne state university. I'm currently taking my general education classes. our state department of transportation is offering internships for current construction management students and I was thinking about applying next year. also, there's obviously many careers that fall under construction management but what made you choose estimating?
Lol it may be inside but it's definitely not chill. Most laborers think that but I've quickly find management to be more difficult. Just in different ways.
Thank you for the good Advise, Im leaving my degree that is not stable from hiring prospective and joining this degree to open more opportunities for myself. This video is 7 years old but it is very useful
There’s only an Associates in my area for Construction Management. I have real world experience (and am a welder) though. I’m your professional outlook, does the industry respect experience, an Associates or a Bachelors significantly differently? Would an Associates be a good thing to have, or would it be non-competitive next to those with a Bachelors and I should just continue to get experience instead?
I’m a junior in construction management right now. I know it’s hard to find information about this stuff so if anyone has any questions I’ll try to answer them for you.
@Emer I haven’t even looked into the master’s programs. Starting wage out the gate with a bachelors is 70k around here. 10 years into your career you can look to become an executive construction manager and they can make $250k. The real question is are you prepared to work the hours required to climb in this sector
luke schempf what kind of software do they teach you guys to use? I’m planning on possibly double majoring in architecture and construction management. Ultimately however I would like to work at a construction firm and work my way up to a managerial position. Thank you.
Ive been in the trades my whole life from framing to concrete. I was considering going to school for construction management, do you think it would be worth the time and money? should i just work up the ranks? what are my options with the degree and experience?
Im 22 currently in school for a Bachelors in Construction Management. My ultimate goal is to own my own buisness as a General Contractor, but now a days you dont need a degree for that. I think im taking the right steps
Usman Zia Bhutta probably construction management.... some schools have construction engineering and management (CEM) degrees. That’s what I’m in right now, it’s mixed with civil engineering classes so it’s pretty well balanced

chrislovesannick my dad did not go to college and he started by working for a decent sized construction company for many years until he got an opportunity to sell furniture. In 2008 the economy wasn’t good enough to sell furniture anymore so he went back to working for the small company but he wasn’t making enough money just working for them. So he used his many years experience and started his own company. He’s had up to 5 workers for his company at a time but right now he has 1, and he still works for the other company on the side. So whenever his business got slow he’d have another job from the other company. I’m not sure if that really answers your question because from what it sounds like you’d prefer to be in charge rather than having to work the jobs yourself. But anyways it’s possible to start your own company without a degree but I’d definitely recommend finishing out college, it will give you many more opportunities and it will be less of a risk to start a company if you have your degree. Hope this helped, sorry it was so long. :) -a senior in high school
chrislovesannick quick questions! One how do you like your job?? 2 do you think it worth getting the degree? And 3 how much money are you making now?? Thanks
@@camupton6048 After having earned my Bachelor's and Masters in business, I'm here to tell you, DON'T get a degree to become an entrepreneur! I guess if you want to start a nuclear physics lab, you might need some education. But if you want to start a construction business, a couple online classes will do the trick. A college degree for starting a construction business is just a waste of time.
