Technically you can counter bosses' Heat combo(that's how I reference them since it's long heavy combos into heat action) with deathblows and parry(sometimes).

Final boss, Reiji, can have his sprint grab deflected by deathblow attack as long as the hit connects with upper body. Best for this is brawler drop kick.
This looks fun. As someone who *loved* Def Jam Fight for NY, I probably would've enjoyed this game as well even with the quirks mentioned. Who knows - with the current Yakuza resurgence we might see this game remastered and translated. I'd certainly grab it.

That being said, Tatsuya is a completely different character from Nishiki, they just look the same. Unlike Ryoma, Tatsuya is already an existing character within rgg studios, so I agree with you in treating Kurohyō like ishin would be a bad move.

I've only seen this game through the soundtrack (which fucking slaps). I only got through chapter 1 on an emulator with the incomplete English patch so I can't wait to try this again with the new English patch in August.
I wish they would do some type of cinematic fight with these cameras and controls in future games but more polished of course. Like imagine you are in a major boss fight and with every hit the camera starts to shake, blood spills on the camera, and an injury system, with all of these adding weight to each hit. Think Kratos vs Zeus in part 1 of the Final Battle of GOW3 where it had that Mortal Kombat camera too, it would be cool to start that way and eventually go to more 3D environments as the battle continues.
played it, really fun game and the fighting mechanics are really interesting, realistic even underrated is right. I think it's also the first ever time you play as a minor (second one being as Haruka)
Finally got around to finding my jailbroken psp, and playing this gem earlier today. They really used the psp to its fullest potential, im so mad they held it over in jp for so long.

Even though it too caught the Blockuza bug (what with enemies with more developed styles and bosses), I still dig this game, not going to lie. Sure feels nice to try many different styles, even wonky as hell Weapon Mania (which is about the only style I'd rank lower than Dragon, my former least favorite of them all).
I really enjoyed these games, and Def jam fight for ny is a pretty damn good 3d fighting game so it was cool to see more games with a similar gameplay. Also that catching thing happens a lot in Def Jam, which is where it came from.
K4L team made localisation patches for both games, Kurohyou 1 is on 1.2 version with pretty much everything translated, while Kurohyou 2 is on a 1.0 version with cabaret clubs and a few minigames lacking translation

@logandunlap9156 kurohyou 2 combat has greatly improved since the first. You have combos that could break guard easily, knock enemies down with one hit, but keep in mind, enemies can be very counter heavy

so i learned you can cheese baccarat with save states the rng for what cards you get seems to already be predetermined -- so you can make a max bet, save your state, lose, reload your state, then pick the winning choice the 9x multiplier for ties is fantastic
I didn't have too much trouble with catching tbh - I mostly used kick attacks because kicks are cool. It happens sometimes, but you can hit on a whiff, and low kicks seem harder to catch. Ultimate God Leg + Low Kicks + the special kick you get from Kung Fu is awesome, it'll beat nearly anybody. I even beat the penultimate boss (the hardest story boss) with that tactic.

Combat is a huge shift that I wound up enjoying a lot (even if people here are parry masters), the art style is great and expressive, and that ost man. Oh my God, it's amazing. Muppet, naked panther, your knife, so unusual, even the regular battle theme is great. Though I admit, I liked its sequel a bit more.
I’d love if they ported the game to modern hardware like was done with metal gear solid peace Walker. They could do enhanced graphics, but honestly, at that point, I feel they should just remake it.

4:56 a lot of bosses can just be parried, perfect dodged, or even just punched out of their moves with the right timing. There is a boss in KH1 towards the end whos heat mode is fucking useless by virtue of a single parry with a huge window, and fucking them around a bit will boot them out of their heat mode regardless of their health or time in the heat mode.
Not only versus mode but it also has a co-op mode where you and your buddy can fight on a bunch of thugs and a character creator where you can unlock clothes/accessories by completing missions in multiplayer mode.
They're not underrated, it's just that they're in japanese and not everyone speaks that language. Now, thanks to the efforts of Team K4L we can play both Kurohyo 1 and 2 in english.
whenever i see videos on the RGG games i cant just pick up and buy, i think "hmm how could RGG remake this just to sell to ME, the most important gamer?" So you know how Ichiban sees combat in turn-based, well the logical thing would to interpret Kurohyou Man's combat as his imagining his fights like Tekken bouts like how Ichi thinks of Dragon Quest. So I guess we have to wait until Tekken 8 is out for RGG to stuff them in a van and drive them to their game studio.
Grab spam is absolutely the easiest way to beat the game. You CAN do combos against bosses, but the set up is a little wonky. Basically you just juke the opponent into going for a running tackle, dodge behind them and start going ham. The bosses can't do shit if you're hitting them form behind. Incidentally, you CAN actually interrupt/deal with boss's heat phases....well, most of them. A few of them can be parried, and a BUNCH of them will actually instantly get knocked down if you hit them with a charged attack, but the timing is very strict. The skill ceiling is sky high.
I like this game a lot actually, because I can simply emulate it on my phone (well you can emulate the original yakuza 1 and 2 too but this is easier to run)

Playing it on my modded PS VITA and I can honestly say this game is so fire, it’s probably one of my most played games now.

Grabbing is extremely broken in this game and enemies will never break out of your hold. You can just spam circle from the start to the end.
