Warren Buffett: Smart Investors Should Ignore The AI Hype

- Warren Buffett is not a big fan of artificial intelligence, as you might imagine, and the greatest stock market investor of all time is very sceptical of its usefulness in stock market investing, and whether you should invest in AI stocks.
People overestimate what a new technology can do in 1 year, and underestimate what it can do in 10 years
"I will never use computer, they are pointless machines"
It's cornball to have a kid parrot their parents ideas
Good tech is not always good for investors. As Warren Buffett said, airline, automotive are amazing technologies but not good for investors over long term.
The AI hype bubble will burst just like EV bubble.
EV isn't a bubble. We're well on our way to get our batteries more efficient than it's ever been with solid state technology and i say this as a proponent of hydrogen powered cells for cleaner energy. Whether the overall carbon footprint gets worse or better, these vehicles will definitely sell well for sometime to come.
Charlie was right, he didn't have reasons to be worried about AI
A.I like many new things get hyped. We’re not going to see sentient machines/ robots any time soon. But it will be an important factor for reducing development time of new products and materials which require a lot of testing, highly specialised jobs which require a lot of detail and repetition. This will be the next stage of the digital revolution as new industrial and business applications are developed to utilise artificial intelligence to boost productivity of a shrinking workforce.
The AI style algorithms have been in academic papers and utilized in universities and missile tech for over 20 years already. Material science and medical science already have AI algorithms working to improve aggregate understandings... It's incremental improvements, not revolutionary. We've already been living with machine learning in many applications.
We are not going to see sentient machines, AGI, ASI or any of that nonsense EVER. It's literally impossible. People earned nobel prizes proving this. And so everyone in the field knows this and if you had taken or paid attention in statistics and complexity theory classes you'd know that too.
From someone who actually understands Deep Learning AI; wrong, wrong and WRONG. Ignore something like AI that is growing at 25X Moores Law at your own peril!
@@marklinden5718 "actually understands" ... "Deep Learning AI" ... Take your meds.
Always sensible and realistic
Please post the date of the content. Thanks ✅
Charlie was very smart. Given more time I think he would have changed his mind on the impact of A.I.
Poor Charlie Munger. He was really struggling on that stage. May he rip
Why be a trillionaire when you can still be a millionaire absolutely!
Why they are reading their own questions?
..machine intelligence or AI came from the experiences of human, those are data/information feed to them.
RIP...Charlie Munger
The danger of chasing hype is that there's tend to be bubble. If we buy at top, and buble bursts, we suffer huge loss. I suffered huge loss chasing SaaS hype during Covid. Suffered minor loss chasing AI hype again.. No more chasing hype. Get rich slowly is the best way. At one point , NVDA will crash big time when their revene growth slows and traders abandon it. Slowing from 100% per year growth to 20% per year growth is NOT good for bubbles.
Tips to avoid falling into hypes is avoid reading, watching their news. The more we watch, the more we are tempted to buy into them.
😂 finally absolute truth
And people said the same thing of the internet in the late 90’s…..respect to these two but no ones out performing the market or making sizeable gains buying Coca Cola and Bank of America
It depends how long you plan to be in the game for. These guys bought stocks to hold for life. Steady returns for decades. They've obviously backed Apple, but tech stocks can't keep on growing exponentially. People will always need food and banks.
Humans lived for many years without computers, AI etc... you can't live for more than a few days without food, and money is integral in society
They may be generationally brilliant investors, but by their own admission they fundamentally don't understand the potential of AI.
Brother AI only inmitates
It's not surprising that Buffet is right on AI. He is briefed and/or advised by some very capable experts. No doubt about that. ; -) Nonetheless, you shouldn't bet against AI either. It'll keep going for a number of years. AI has trillions in backing. The narrative on AI will stay positive and under control, no matter what happens. Remember Elon Musk telling the world every year for 10 years straight that next year full self driving will be "solved"? Or space tourism, hyperloop, etc. (really so many things, look it up)? All of it was marketing/lies and some was borderline criminal even. Nonetheless, did any of that impact Tesla? No, it didn't, because Tesla was a movement with a trillion dollar industry backing it.
@@jessicaramirez4354 You dont think AI will get to the point whereby it will exceed the need for human development or input?! At that stage what is it 'imitating'?
@@johnniejay right now i do not think so
@@jessicaramirez4354 Just wait and see what Sora can do....and thats coming this year.
Today he is already wrong
He literally isn't. AI changed nothing when it comes to investing. It gives absolutely useless projections that no long-term investor needs. Only human knows what other human needs and that's the key to investing in quality businesses.
AI does an excellent job in creating advertisments, writing product descriptions, making product recommendations, but that won't help you at all if you have shitty products and services, high prices etc...
Also, 99.99999% of the world doesn't care if a machine beat the best chess or go player.
then buy bitcoin
@@topsteve9898 of course the machine hasn't evolved. Another example would be ChatGPT. That thing is literally just a faster way to Google search because it can only provide you with data that people have been putting on the internet for the last 30 years. It's not supersmart and it doesn't know the answers that people don't already know.
@@evernight. 84% of the population has an IQ of less than 115, by definition. If you find yourself wondering or frustrated with the idiocy out there, it's worth remembering that fact.
@@evernight.way to smoke that joker, people really just ride on the hype when all ai does is spit information based on typed prompts. Information is useless if it isn’t applied critically
He doesn't understand it.
He is wrong but the hype is priced in.
This was before AI
AI will be like the internet bubble. It’s already starting with tech and semiconductors.
Just think about the electricity used in ai models
