Love this video! I just had a problem with an M278 and I ended up one tooth off on the exhaust cam, bank 1. The factory laser marks are on the back of the cam, where you can't see them with the valve cover on! The timing marks on the old M272/M273 were better, to be sure! Thanks brother, from a fellow MB tech in USA!
❤🔥😍 this video saved me, I had to do it twice because alldata shows wrong timing marks i spend 3 days until i decided to check youtube, i have 6years bmw/mercedes experience but this engine its my first time God Blees You for recording This Video Thank you very much
Love your videos on the M157 monster motor. Dream to own this car (E63 AMG) after passing the USMLE Step 1 (test to become doctor in the U.S.). That engine albeit its not hot v turbo, has such a growl and insane power potential (i.e from the likes of Weistec). Great work!!
Hey Tasos the timing marks seem to be the same for a 276 engine besides Bank 1 the timing marks point at the first bolt on the tensioner. Is this correct?
You know you can just check basic set timing by checking your Hall Sensor's and making sure it lines up in the middle. If you read the manual there is a section that tell you where the marks have to line up when you are looking down the hall sensor hole! This will be for the M276 & M278 engines.
Thank you for the video.. My m276 engine timing marks are ok at 40dig. But at 53dig the reluctor plate won't stay in the mid bore. Any reason for that. ?
Hello tasos I have done same way that you do the time but , when I but the crankshaft at 53 degrees to check the timing from the top it doesn't give me half moon for the camshaft signal plate can you advise me please, by the way I have replaced the timing chain the camshaft adjusters but I keep the camshaft
Hi Tasos, can you conform if those 4 pulleys are new or your using the old ones and also if you deem necessary to use new coils After a full rebuilt like this. Thanks a bunch
+Jane Dogh Hi, if they are healthy I'm using the old parts. Keep in mind that if there is any problem with the old ignition coils you can change it later it's better to spend 20 more min than to throw 8 healthy coils
If your coils and plugs are good but you positively FEEL RANDOM MISFIRES AT COLD IDLE without any "misfiring DTC"... then consider this solution: Any odd CAN-Bus module DTC may introduce SLIGHT DELAYS in the engine ECU firing. O2 sensor will detect unburned gas and lean out your mixture making firing even more difficult. The timing delay + lean mixture will create a slightly laggy throttle response. It will be "acceptable" but not great. To restore the engine crisp response... FIX ALL MODULES DTC (or RESET ALL DTC for testing) then consider resetting the engine ECU to speed up relearning the FUEL TRIM map from an unbiased default map. Even a ridiculous chassis DTC such as a "bad tail bulb" on rear SAM can introduce this timing delay. It is also incremental: more DTC, more delay. Knowing Bosch CAN-Bus design this driveability bug may well be one of their money maker. It is IMPOSSIBLE for engineers to have never seen this bug introduce delayed response and engine shakiness without code. CAN-Bus architecture is built around DISTINCT BUSES to prevent this class of problem... "the Best or Nothing" 😂 More power to you! 👍
Hello mr tasos moschatos thank you very much for your video .. i hAve one 278 engine I just working here in my work .. and the reason is one timing chain was broken what should’ I recommend thank very much sir ..
Great Videos on Timing! But what are the Cylinder Numbers? Are they like an american engine in which the Cylinder Number 1 is the closest to the timing chains? Like one cylinder head has 1357 and the other 2468? Or are cylinders in one bank considered as 1234 and the cylinders on the other banks 5678 ??
Hello Tasos, I changed 4 cam adjuster and chains on m276 ,2011. But I didn't changed the tensioner. Now , my timing is out... should I need to change tensioner.... and is anything to do with bottom gear....
why keep bad old tensioners? The main culprit seems to be low pressure from low oil viscosity that works out the pin of the passenger intake adjuster... use 10w40, not 5W30 👍
it's really confusing... I've done it this way and other ways and still don't line up in the sensor hole... Do you know what could possibly be the problem? Thank you
I have a 2014 S550 (222.185) v8-4.6L turbo (278.929) will this timing set up work for my engine? the timing marks appear to be in the same locations but im getting a bank 1 camshaft fault after putting new adjusters on the passenger side intake and exhaust. If you look at live data then bank one inlet cam goes to 46' as soon as engine is started and does not adjust at all
Hi, Tasos. Could you tell me please, on a pulley placemark factory ? Or did you put them yourself? And another question. The tensioner, put new, but were not included on labels. You can re-use the tensioner after removing ?Thanks

Thank you for the video but your timing is off. You are supposed to be at 53 degrees after tdc. If the crank doesn’t have that marking you are supposed to measure 17mm after the 40 degrees tdc and that’s gonna be your Mark for timing.
That is wrong the timing shown on the computer which you have done is for the m276 which is 6 cylinder the m278 is 8 cylinder which is the other one that showes in your computer at 3:57 the points most be towards the out not in .
You could clearly see the validity for the Engines: 152.9, 157, 276, 278. Correct me if I'm wrong Tasos! But it's indeed confusing when pictures shows that it points outward hehe.
@@TasosMoschatos hey tasos and also iron , I want to say thank you first for your videos I'm doing my engine m278 as well you helped me a lot thanks man , yeah for the timing again so there is as you see on the computer I have the Mercedes program as well I have looked at it to may times and if I'm not wrong you can see there is 2 different pictures one pointing in words the other to the out and one of them for m157/m278 the other one for m276 , other wise they can't be right both for the same engine so , if you look on the pictures the first one it says showing on the engine m278 and the points pointing out words + the timing chain it self comes with yellow points from Mercedes I think clearly for the points on the camshaft, but anyways, if I'm wrong please explain for me the page (ar05.10-P-7620-40mm) which is for timing the same page you showing on the video why there is a picture showing the timing marks to the out words . Thank you guys will wait for your reply, and sorry man for late answer I really just saw the reply from you , all the best 🙂

Like your explanation it’s very much clear.
I have a rattle sound upon startup? The camshaft acutator could this be the issue?

Do u have an videos on m276 timing !!!! Bank 2 ?
Hello my friend.
It's possible change the timing chain and guides without taking off the cylinder head?

Ist it the same on the M276 engines ?
can the bank 1 intake cam adjuster be replace without removing the valve cover when replacing chain tensioner?
Yes
Hi can you give me the tightening torques for the main caps and big ends for the M157 engine

53° ATDC is not for setting cam timing. It is for inspecting the basic position of the camshaft through the position sensor holes.
Yes! Thank you for being spot on accurate!
Designed to fail. And drop you in the CRAP
Why there are no clear marks it's a work and not a puzzle
