This has to be one of the most underrated love songs of all time! The original is perfect, but this version... so sensual, beautiful, amazing...ah! Can't stop listening.
I saw the documentary last night and I've listened to this 20x since. Something about the Pet Sounds-style harmony in the chorus, offset with the low key sadness of the lyrics. I am haunted by this version.
I hope you're doing ok, brother. Remember whenever your mind gets too squished, to put your shoulders back down where they belong and exhale deeply. We were not designed to live in hell. Be well, my friend.
In the late sixties my best friend and I would hitchhike through Laurel Canyon from the valley, sometimes we’d go to the Whiskey or the Troubadour-it was a great time and place to be young. This is a great doc, Dylan does a wonderful job of weaving the different people and sounds together, and recreating the songs from that time.
One of my favorite songs, and this version adds an element of sensuality. Nothing against the light, breezy original, but Jakob and Norah take it a step further
Hearing this takes me to a time I was born too late for and to a place where I no longer live. This arrangement and performance is just...California. Ocean breezes and haze and scrub on the canyons. Echoes, too.
@@thilsiktonix another, longer song I rediscovered after years in the vault, is Fleetwood Mac oldie, 'Sara'. Kinda timeless, and a groove to loop for an hour to stay in 'the mood'.
I saw the documentary and loved it. I am around the same age as Jakob and Norah and I appreciate them bringing these songs back! I think their version is beautiful as the Association
I've listened to this ... countless times. It's just such a joy to listen to something this mature, this layered, and the performances are perfect ... subtle at times, strong others .. thank you Norah, thank you Jakob
Out of all songs that were masterfully produced for the documentary this is the best by far. I am addicted to it and love singing it once again after not hearing it for so many years. Jakob Dylan has such a calming, sexy voice and Norah! We’ll, she’s Norah…one the best female vocalists.
I neve4 was a huge fan of Norah but WOW, my god, this is just amazing. I am so happy they made this album. I didn’t live in LA but oddly enough I listened t9 all this music way back on the east coast and I fell in LOVe with California just FROM he music of jackson Browne, The Beach Boys, Crosby Still and Nash and on. As I sit here in the west coast if Canada today, with the rain and the smells of th spring all around me, I dream of California in the 70’s when life was simpler. In these days if pandemic and mass shootings in y home province of Nova Scotia I can listen; to this music and escape the sadness that comes in waves and threatens to overwhelm.
the entire documentary project was worth it for this one duet alone. Crazy part is I always thought it was ´ forever my love´'--which sure would change the entire meaning of the song.
I have always luvved this song but I honestly appreciate the original by The Association so much more. In saying that, however, what Jakob has done is phenomenal in introducing these gemstones 💎 to a whole new generation ♥️♥️♥️♥️
Windy was the first song I practiced on my guitar, but this song is so cool, furthermore Theresa, I can pronounce your name as easily as I can say see John run. Mario
This song has always haunted me , when I was a kid it would come on the radio we be in Mom’s. Corvair and I would start crying something about it made me cry and now as an older gentle man who been in music bizz long time it’s time for me to record a version of it - just booked studio in Austin Tx so I’ll go full circle on this !!!
I really like this song,The duet of Yacob and Norah is very harmonies and beautiful .Many people cover this song ,but this duet is the best .I love playing it over and over and singing along
I always think of Sharon Tate when I hear this beautiful song. Years ago, someone posted a tribute photo montage of Sharon with this as a soundtrack. Sadly, I can no longer find it on here. Love, love , love this song. Grew up with it too ❤️🙏
For me, Norah's entry points up the dividing point. It's the moment at which the lyric's ability to move me is less powerful than her voice's poetry. In the film, you can later hear Cat's treatment, which although truer to the lyric, loses that bluesy vocal component Norah brings to the Never My Love. Beautiful song either way, but I prefer Norah's added tension of individual voice, which pushes the lyric to be more engaging.
Great version absolutely... but the magic of the original was the haunting keyboard solos of Larry Knechtel.... they lifted this song to some place otherworldly.
Norah Jones was awesome doing this studio version. But for the life of me, I don't know why Jakob had Cat Power sing it live on stage with his band (in the documentary). Cat was God awful.
@@puseye Saw them in concert SEVERAL times, playing their own instruments and sounding amazing. In fact, if you want to see all of their singles live, there's a 1983 reunion series where they do them all including "Requiem for the Masses", which requires some degree of musical virtuosity!!
Why is the soundtrack nearly always Jakob Dylan and someone else? Could they not have found people with a more obvious background in say, Laurel Canyon? In its heyday?
Hi David - Jakob is the narrator of the film & the featured artists appear throughout. You can view the full trailer on our Page & find showtimes at: bit.ly/EchoTix
Because it's a Jakob Dylan project, without him and Andrew Slater the film and soundtrack would not exist. He did an amazing job so I'm happy he's the main artist. You can always seek out the original tunes
Because it's HIS project? Did you even view the film? I would highly recommend that you did. There's a strong chance that you'll gain a new and better informed perspective of a lot of "things" if you choose to.
It's May 2020. I finally got to see this documentary. I loved it and never knew Jakob Dylan sang so beautifully. These artists were from my early teen years and beyond. I appreciate them so much more now.
This is truly the worst cover I’ve ever heard. I’m at barbed and noble and they’re playing it. I Shazammed it to see who was responsible for this dreck that added nothing to the original and was an utterly sickening money grab. I wasn’t surprised to see that Norah jones was on it. This was PUTRID!!!!!
I love the original versions of these songs. I don't care who Jakob Dylan is who does not do these songs justice. Norah Jones is a great singer and musician but I hate how she sings with the typical women's "cat voice" so overdone. Really a shit job and they are just making money on covering these songs. I have long said if people record a cover song if it is not as good or better than the original, they should go to jail. Looks like Dylan and Jones should do some hard time.
@@bluenote335 I agree Greg. That is silly. Most of the covers are fairly good, some very good, and they are introducing the younger generation to some great music with that album. Listen to the song "Questions" on that album. Jakob and the others do a good cover of that Great Buffalo Springfield song. Steven Stills is playing on both versions of it.
Nope, can't agree. I grew up when these songs were new and they were really good. Dylan and the Echo's band do a great job of bringing this special music back for a new generation. Their music and their voices are at least as good, and probably better then the originals. It takes a few listens to get used to a little bit of a new feel. They certainly don't need the money and if it was a scam the original band members would not have participated. Let the music live on!
That's bob Dylan's son dipshit. The guy who practically started this whole movement. And if you don't like a cover of a song then why the fuck do you think anyone else cares about ur bullshit worthless opinion???
You are wayyy off base here. People are constantly doing covers of other people's music and have been doing that since the beginning of time. Good, bad or ugly. So if I record a Beethoven sonata and it's not as good as Beethoven, do I go to jail??
This has to be one of the most underrated love songs of all time! The original is perfect, but this version... so sensual, beautiful, amazing...ah! Can't stop listening.
You have no taste if you think this song was anything but garbage.
I totally agree; still gets me every time! 💯
I saw the documentary last night and I've listened to this 20x since. Something about the Pet Sounds-style harmony in the chorus, offset with the low key sadness of the lyrics. I am haunted by this version.
Well said
💕 this
I just added comment about this song haunting me funny we both use word haunting
Same. I just saw the documentary yesterday and I wanted to hear this song again too. It's so beautiful.
I just finished a three months stay in hospital. Every night I put this song to calm me down.
What a kool way to chill, no matter what generation u are from.
I'm glad you have access to bbn music in ty he hospital...peace and Blessings to you!

Just an infatuated illusion.
Sounds like part of you never left ( and that’s okay ).
Me, too. Just a few years too late but so very far away.
Seriously? Damn. This is Norah's finest moment. Amazing.
Just loop this all-afternoon on the tougher days of this pandemic...
It'll keep ya goin'.

Wow! The docu blew me away. I grew up in this era in LA. It was a fabulous era.
Grew up in this era, so many memories...California. The music, the musicians, the land, the beach. Sad and sweet. This is a masterpiece!
A beautiful and wonderfully romantic song. As long as I am still breathing, chivalry is not dead...
So happy about this I can't stop listening to it!
Me either. I'm playing it over and over right now. Incredible. ❤️
Such a great rendition of this song. Now a favorite of mine
My favorite song covered by two of my favorite musicians! And the documentary is awesome. I've watched it several times.
Norah Jones has the voice of an angel!
she sure does
Perfect! From 1967 the Association.... I am now a full fledged Norah Jones fan......@@fredglitz

Two beautifull voices
Sweet and as smooth as warm delicious caramel.
Dylan's husky, broody undertones.
Sweet Norah's refreshing seabreeze vibes.
Sublime 💚🌻✌
