Most drummers don't know how to open and close the High-Hat on syncopated rhythms. Billy Cobham is great but does little of that. Dave Garabaldi of Tower of Power has it down to an art. I like to play ride cymbal and hat simultaneously with contrasting rhythms and sometimes the same sticking for layering and a thicker sound as if there were two drummers instead of one.

I'm semi-ambidextrous and understand the necessity of strengthening the weaker side of both hands and feet. Thanks for the book mentions.
