This video was so helpful. I’m planning on majoring in Architectural Engineering. Thank you for all the helpful info. Now I can finally jump into this major knowing what I’m getting myself into.
Thank you so much this video was so helpful I wanna be an architectural engineer and make buildings that are both architecturally beautiful and sustainable for our future! That’s why I wanna do it so thanks for making me even more sure I want to lol!
honoured to be your 666th subscriber I'm from the UK but your description of what Engineering's like was really helpful, your passion for the subject really shines through and it's infectious :)
I thought I wanted to be an architect but after seeing this video I am now sure I want to be an architectural engineer cuz I am all the stuff u described in this video, thank youuuuu
So is there like a lot of designing involved, like maybe drafting a bit? I sorta consider myself to have both an artistic and practical side, and I’m currently trying to figure out my major for certain (engineering field). I had considered architecture before, but I really don’t see myself as simply focused on just how things look, I do like learning about the structure of things, and was wondering if Architectural Engineering really has those two main aspects.
Useful information: this major makes less money than other engineering degrees on average, this degree has low satisfaction rate, lastly this degree is rare and has very low graduates. This may sound like a good thing bc there is more jobs however civil engineering majors will get the jobs instead. Their degree is better understood by employers and more common. Civil engineering is also more general for what careers are available. Take that as you will from someone who just swapped majors.

Wait I'm looking at doing the architecture + the architectural engineering dual-degree option at UT at Austin! Is that what you did? Because I was very on the fence about it but I'm very interested in both fields.
Yes I am in that program now! I highly recommend it, there are a lot of great people here making the program better and better each year. Also if you end up coming to UT we might meet each other haha :D
Hi! I have a degree in Architecture and I want to major in Architectural Engineering for my Masters degree. Please can you share your opinion and advice that can help me or motivate me.And honestly, just trying to wrap myself around using the computer system for designing😄
This is so helpful, but I have a question, if I don’t take any of those classes to I have to take them in a community college or can I take them in a 4 year university? because after high school I’m planning of going straight to the 4 year university
They are kind of like runners in a relay race, they’re both working towards the same end goal but are responsible for different parts. Architects handle more of what the building will look like, arrangement of rooms, where the entrance is etc. Engineers make the building functional by designing the structures, systems, and how the building will be constructed!
@@TheGravyson Thank you for your answer. My problem is that I am really close to designing as to engineering and cant determine which one fulfills me more.
And if you’re an undergraduate art student that may pursue a masters in Architectural Engineering? What would you say to help solidify my decision? Right now, I am just discovering my interest and having a hard time deciding because I love sculpting and modeling and atmospheric design.
I would check with the specific universities you want to apply to, typically masters degrees in architectural engineering require some sort of undergrad in engineering because the masters will be more in depth and you'll need the basics learned in undergrad. However, many architecture (not architectural engineering) graduate programs do not require a technical undergraduate degree, but can have a lot of the same aspects of architectural engineering.
As a person who wants to work as consultant and open a consultancy center, would you recommend a Bachelor of architecture or a Bachelor of Science in Architectural engineering? Can Architectural engineers work as architects in the future like design buildings and other facilities? I really need help here
I'm not super familiar with consulting, but if you personally don't plan on doing any architectural work I would not recommend the B.Arch because it takes longer. In the US, Architects and Engineers cannot switch without going back to school because it is a requirement from the licensure board, but depending on the types of projects (typically smaller projects are more flexible) one might not need an architect or engineer specifically, so they could kind of act as both
You probably could do both, I’d recommend applying as a architectural engineer and employers would want u to help design with architects a lot more including attending their meetings, pitch ideas for designs and having knowledge in both means you’ll be a bridge between engineers and architects meaning you’ll be relied on to lead presentations to clients since you understand both sides.
Many people go into Structural Design, Mechanical Systems Design/Building Systems Design or Construction Management, but many related careers would also be possible to pursue
Great content, really appreciate it I am currently studying in class 11 in India. I am willing to join the undergrad program of Architectural Engineering at University of Waterloo. I have some questions, please message if you have time. I will really appreciate it
You can still major in architectural engineering! If your school has non-AP versions of the classes I mentioned, I would recommend taking them to see if you enjoy them, but otherwise, you'll always have a chance to take them in college.
@@dazusama5411 Because it's a longer, more expensive, education that wastes your time and sets you up in a worse way for your actual future job than if you just would've studied civil engineering instead.
