  • Our truck was blowing the ECM B fuse that controls the fuel pump. We found a grounded wire.

    The last thing you ever want to do, is put a higher rated fuse where the old one was. If it was a 20, you do not upgrade to a 30. That is rediculous. Fuses are rated specifically from the manufacturer to blow on purpose to protect the circuit if something goes wrong. If you put a higher rated fuse and something goes wrong like it did before, it can melt entire harness, burn components, electrical fires in car, etc.. terrible idea

    you are awesome. we got the dr side of our GMC buried in my soup driveway. there was like a freaking river running under it but the top was still froze . until i drove on it. next day it died right in the road. i noticed the fuel pump was not coming on ,so i looked in the fuse box and that fuse was blown. the truck has been working but now i know why the fuse went. i can't even imagine what the cost of the garage would have been to figure this out.

      That is exactly what happened to me and my s10 coming home from working early one morning.At the time, the truck shut off on me at interstate speeds.I was lucky there was not alot of traffic.Once I towed my truck home, I was checking my injectors and one of the injector plugs that have two wires going to it was melted.I check my fuse box only to find that my ECMB 15 amp fuse had blown.I took another 15 amp fuse and put it in and the truck cranked and ran for a few minutes until it blew again. I haven't taken the time to trace the problem on that particular wire yet.

    I see more electrical issues with the newer Chevy/Gmc models than the later 1990 models. Quality enhanced depreciation much sooner over the century.

    I been doing alot of transmission repairs lately and I believe Ive found what seems to be the cause of the 3/4 issue. Ive came across this twice now and The reason it seems like its shifting 1-2-1 is because the brake light switch wires are either wrapped around the steering column or very close to it and with the rotation or vibrations its causing the wire or wires to get mangled. They are either shorting out causing alot of electrical issues with lighting, door locks, lockup,etc or they are getting broken and losing all contact. Theres sharp points catching the wires. I was traveling down the interstate one day with my 2nd transmission and out of the blue just lost all gears, i was hot because I just finished with the swap. Next transmission, no movement from the start. returned it. Now at this point it was getting to the point where i didnt know what else to do. I was trying to lock my doors with the lock button and nothing was happening. I grabbed the brake pedal and just starting pressing it and tada locks working, flashers flashing, passenger side headlight came on. I found the issue looking at why did my pedal make everything start working again.i will post pictures of the wire and location. No more issues since this discovery on 2 different occasions. Hope this may help someone.

    im hoping this is my issue. i have had weird intermittent times where the truck just wont start randomly, it only has died once on me and has failed to start 3 or 4 times over the last year. my friend got it running one time by unpugging the MAF and that worked once but never again. i never checked the fuses since i bought the truck and i found the 50amp Ignition B fuse was blown and someone had hot wired it (very sketchily). tried swapping it with the heater core fuse and it still wouldnt fire up. ill check this part of the harness when i get home and see if thats what is going on.

    Truck just went out today...no start,crank, or start over. What is working is a/c and lignts. Fuse 40 A / ignition went out. Tested again and went out. Jump start starter and worked fine. I replaced starter and when turning key it blew the same fuse out.
    From your work/experience, could you guide me to what wires it might be or were to locate them( most common place to have shortage). I have 1997 k1500.
    Thanks in advance.

      A few months ago I heard about this same problem. Ended up being the small wire (purple wire) running to the solenoid of the starter. It was rubbing against the solenoid heat shield and grounded itself out causing the fuse to blow every time they tried to start it. Check that wire around your starter first and see if you can find something.

    I have issue with 97 chevy 5.7. Fuel pump relay, head lights work sometimes and sometimes they dont. Fuel pump relay has been replace. No blown fuses. You think it could be in this wiring?

    • @DivineSpeed
      @DivineSpeed  4 роки тому +1

      Man that is a crazy combination. I'm not sure. My first thought would to be make sure the fuse terminals and inside of the fuse block is not corroded. Does anything in the fuse block look burnt? If you cant find anything there, I'd start looking at the outside of any wiring you can see. It doesn't sound like it's cut or grounding out or else you would be blowing fuses. Check the fuse block first. Maybe take the fuse block off of its mount and check the bottom also.

    Hey do you know how to remove the individual wires out the back of the relay box so I can repair them? My fuel pump relay burned up and I need to repair connector 30 terminal. I cant for the life of me figure out how to remove them. Here's a photo of my relay box, same as yours
    cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/chevroletforum.com-vbulletin/1300x731/tabs_cad7065880f23fa608ab547300ced2adf2921b84.jpg

    • @SandyBottomRanch

      To remove wires from fuse block, take a tiny flat blade screwdriver (sears, harbor freight, walmart, etc sells jewelry tools and electronic repair kit tools or da big toolers, Snap-on, Mac, Cornwell), from da bottom where wire is inserted, push driver between flat side of wire and case. While pushing driver down, pull wire out, cause you may not feel when you've pushed tab outta da way. Dere is a tab on da back of flat side of wire dat protrudes out towards case dat grabs case, preventing wire from being pushed out when fuse or relay is pushed in. Itz tricky, yet simple. Have phun. Make sure you push tab out b4 re-inserting it after repair iz made. Now, da tab could protrude from opposite sides or directions but dis iz how most are set up.

      Stalled while making a left turn, coasted into the parking lot. Pulled a 1345 camshaft/crankshaft correlation issue code. Replaced CPS, ignition coil, ignition control module.. cranks but wont start.. pulled timing cover off as well, it didnt jump time. Possible viper alarm malfunction, but doubtful. I dont use it anymore and the starter is brand new and working

      Jason, did you get this figured out?

    • @jm1662
      @jm1662 4 роки тому

      I did! There were bare wires that grounded out at the crankshaft sensor, which possibly caused the ignition control module to fail also, or just a coincidence that it failed at the same time. And the reason it wouldn't start after i replaced all these things....... I set my distributor 180deg out.. i couldn't believe it!! Several people told me to check and i was just 100% sure it was set correctly, but i was 100% wrong. Started up first try as soon as i set it right. Since then I was able to set my cam retard from like -11 to .4 or so.

Also one of the bolts on the new timing cover broke off as I was turning it in, not over torquing but just cheap ass hardware. And also im leaking power steering fluid now, not sure why or from where, the pump and the steering gear are only months old..... Send help please😳
