I've being looking for a resource to explain how this all works for ages, especially the DNS verification part. Fantastic video, really helpful. Many thanks for posting!
Thanks for the video. I am adding a custom domain name to the current tenant and everything is working perfectly. Everything was verified. I created a secondary user with Global Administrator permissions but upon logging in I see that that the new user does not have any subscriptions available. I can go into Azure AD and see all my users and verified that I have the global administrator role but I noticed that I no longer have a subscription and I have the same screen that you did in the demo where I can my plan level.
Quickest answer ever! This is what I did when I set this up. Created a secondary user with Global Admin Rights. Created a group - assigned that group RBAC roles into the subscription and had added the new user. Patience is a virtue because obviously it had just taken a very long time for everything to sync up before I could actually see the subscription.
Great question! Yes both domain names can be different, and it's not necessary to have them match, but it is usually the recommended approach. Hope this helps.
I sincerely apologize for such a delay in responding. By what I understand from your question correctly, when you add a custom domain, your default .onmicrosoft.com domain is still the primary domain. You can definitely change your newly added custom domain name to the primary domain. In case the answer does not align to your ask, please let me know. Hope this helps.
azure is the easiest amongst top clouds. i tried all aws, gcp... gcp is hectic, aws is ok still got a lot of unnecesary stuff for most of the people. i think azure was thought for windows users. and it is hybryd, you can run win and linux servers as well as bash and powershell at same time. it's insanely easy in comparison to the other. it is like a windows os or like dynamics software so easy
Apologies for the delayed response, Jeremy. You can use Exchange Online to create a mailbox with the same top level domain (tld) as you have configured as your custom domain. Hope this helps.
I do not have goddady subscription. Is there any other way that my domain can be verified. I need to add my onprem dc sync with Azure ad. Note: this is for study and practical purpose.
Unfortunately not! You need to have a custom domain that you will have to verify. This domain name could be registered anywhere, not necessarily with GoDaddy. It is because Microsoft verifies the domains using the records using the public domains and the request for verification from Microsoft hops from one DNS to another until it reaches the correct domain, where it looks for the record, which you might have created. I hope it is clear now. If you do not have much understanding on how DNS works, you can view the short video on this . Here is the link - ua-cam.com/video/dAsC1XHmNC4/v-deo.html
Of course, the custom domain name can be added in the current tenant. There is no need to create a new tenant at all. This video is the part the Azure AD series, where I have tried to explain some other concepts as well, and for that reason I had to add the custom domain to the new tenant. Hope this clarifies.
Hey Hari, Where have you installed WordPress? Did you create the Web App service or you installed it on a VM. In case the previous one, where you created the PaaS service, you will have to create a DNS Zone for the domain and map the domain to the IP address of the Web App created. Please let me know if this helped.
@@AzureTrainingSeries Hi, I have created web app as in this video and mapped IP and DNS also created and added but still i am getting the 404 web site not found error. now what i have to do.
In case you have already purchased the domain name from some other domain registrar like GoDaddy, there is no additional cost, but in case you wish to buy it from Microsoft, that can be done as well, but that is for App Service and previously it used to be @11.99 USD per year.
Thank you for watching. Are you talking about the TXT Record that was created as a record in the DNS of the domain name? If that is your question, then the value of the TXT or MX records are provided by Microsoft for domain ownership verification. It appears when you add the custom domain name in Azure AD. In the video it appears between @2:21 and @2:44. Hope this helps.
Hi Vijay, getting a domain name is totally up to you as to where you want to purchase it from. You can search for cheap domain names on google and you will get 1000s of different organization, but just check their ratings as well before purchase so that you get a great support during and post purchase.
An Azure account can have multiple tenants based on the organizational structure. Although, in general one tenant gets created when a user or an organization first sign up, but can create multiple tenants. Please refer to this bog article, where it is explained in detail - azure-training.com/2022/02/28/understanding-tenants-and-subscriptions-in-azure/
The onmicrosoft.com is created when a new subscription is created. What you need to do is add a custom domain and then make that primary. After this is done, you can switch between tenants. from the upper right corner by clicking on the user icon and switch to a different tenant. Hope it is clear to you. In case not, do reach out again and I will try my best to clarify.
Good Question...It can be done by creating a DNS Zone in Azure and then changing the named servers of the domain where it is currently hosted to the one that you get after creating the DNS Zone. Hope this helps...
Where exactly are you looking for the DNS Manager? Is your domain registered with a third party like GoDaddy? In case you have the named servers changed from default to Azure using Azure DNS zone records, look for it under DNS Zone, else it is under the DNS Manager of the domain registrar.
which step are you failing? and where exactly are you looking for the DNS manager? Can you please point out where in minutes and seconds in the video you are having difficulty following?
It will not redirect you, you will have to go to the website of the domain registrar. In my case, I went to GoDaddy.com. Once I was there, I selected the domain name, which I was using and then clicked on the Manage DNS link. In many cases, the DNS management can be done from the control panel of the hosting companies website.
Hello, Thanks for reaching out. Just wanted to know what exactly do you wish to achieve here? When you first configure your subscription, you enter the organization name, which gives you the tenant as "xxxx.onmicrosoft.com". Once you have added the domain name, it gets added under the same subscription. After verification. you can make the domain name as primary. Apart from that, you can sync users from your on-premises or add a domain user directly and make that user as a global admin or as a subscription owner. There will be no need to transfer license. Please let me know if that answers your question or did you mean to ask something else.
