Fun fact: In the manga Mikami didn't commit suicide and instead he yelled at Light, "YOU'RE NOT GOD!!!", and Light grew desperate after being shot by Matsuda he began begging Ryuk to kill everyone, but Ryuk took that request as Light truly losing, and killed Light in that moment
Also Near becomes the new L, the new L logo is half Near's logo half the original L's logo, and Near now has a Watari like the original L, eats chocolate like Mello and continued to play with toys
There's also a fun follow up manga where Near is shown having absurdly long hair and looking badass :D
I think it was not just the fact that Light had absolutely lost in that moment, but also that he had ceased being fun. To Ryuk he was only ever a source of amusement- and someone who can't do anything anymore without you bailing them out isn't amusing.
As someone who hates Light, I much prefer his more pathetic villainous end in the manga. The anime makes it seem too noble/peaceful somehow haha

Misa's singing from episode 25 takes place at the end of this episode. You'll notice she's wearing the same outfit, and the sunset is the same. And yes, she does jump off the roof.
I always assumed she used the same clothes in two separate occasions. As any of us would at some point.

@user-uu1hv8nv6i Well, she used a death note. So... she can never go to heaven or hell (which, according to your opinion or not within Death Note's lore, either don't exist anyway, and everyone ceases to exist when they die, and/or death note users become Shinigami after they die).
I used to agree with this strongly, and I still do, but then it leaves me with the small question of “What about the snapshots in Misa’s Ep 25 sequence where we see names and lifespans of passerbys, as if she still had the Shinigami eyes?”
And I don’t expect an answer from you or anyone about it, it could easily be the audience being tricked, it’s just something I’ve noticed the last few times I’ve watched Ep 37 reactions.
The L funeral extra scene is worth watching
The anime ends before the final chapter of the Manga, which gives a bit of an epilogue and some extra context to the Finale, and a really interesting open question about N
The anime didn't include the series epilogue.
The police issued a public statement that Kira had been killed, and that Light and his father had died in the process. Near cut contact with the suqad and refused to answer on what he had done with the Death Notes. As the months pass, the crime rate rapidly increased to even worse than before Light became Kira, prompting Matsuda and the squad to suggest Light was right all along.
No they don't say that. Matsu questions if they made the right decision and one of the squad says of course they did bc if they didn't they'd all be 💀
Damn, that's rough, but unsurprising. Criminals went from cowering in the shadows to suddenly having _somewhat_ free reign again. Obviously there is still police presence and the usual day-to-day justice system, but there'd 100% be an _insane_ spike in crime once news of Kira's death came.
I think people have too much sympathy for Misa. Yes, she was controlled and manipulated by Light but you have to remember that before she had even met him she used her Death Note to kill completely innocent newscasters just to prove a point. She deserved death just as much as Light.
Misa is even worse than Light actually. The fact that she is stupid doesn't make her more sympathetic. At least Light started with a kind of noble understandable goal and then strayed away in the process.
True, I don't get it why a lot of people symphaty for. I get it that Light used her but still she kills a lot of people
Manipulation or not, her choices, her actions. Misa doesn't deserve redemption.

Another reaction channel (LM Reactions) tried to watch just episode 36 before one of them got on a plane to go on vacation. She, uh, ended up cutting her trip to the airport closer than planned.
Fun Fact: it should have been physically impossible to do what Giovanni did, since the notebook is magical and infinite.
Not only that , but the fact that Near said he made a whole fake notebook perfectly in a night makes no sense. Since we know Mikami checked it every day for any signs of imperfections, having that short of time to create a whole notebook would mean there would be obvious signs of it being tampered so Mikami wouldve known the notebook was taken from the bank. 15:31 for the time if yall are wandering what I'm talking about .
Im glad looking at someone that had the same reaction as me. Wanting Light to be caught but didnt want him to die and crying at his death. Perfect ending. And yeah Misa commited sudoku...

Matsuda is seriously the best character in this series
"Halfway up the stairs." Neither ascending to heaven nor descending to hell, stuck in the middle for all eternity.
From Misa's perspective, she's just discovered that she'd been manipulated and gaslit not just by the man she loved, who was just killed, but by the god she thought he was. She definitely walked off the ledge.

To this day, there's still that main theory that Near used the Death Note to kill Mikami, writing that he'd end himself after making a mistake as Kira.
If you have not yet, there is a short video showing the aftermath of L’s funeral, and that’s always a fun watch! It’s the only other time I’ve seen Light so unhinged, other than the ending and when he was first confronted by L.
Please consider watching Psycho-Pass next. I think you might like it.
It’s such a great anime that deals with similar themes to Death Note, but involving technology instead of the supernatural.
Also there aren’t nearly enough reactions to it on UA-cam.
Sooooo Yeah.... Light lost Only because Mikami screwed Up big time (the only person he trusted willingly), and Near was inferior to L but Mello's contributions to the case were Super important...
As a Kira supporter (the type that even N recognized in ep31st as good people), Ur not meant to emphatize/sympathize with Light's methods.... But, you can support his ideals for what he perceives a New/Better world can be, AND accept that losses/sacrifices are necessary to accomplish that goal, While being amussed with his Genuis intellect and mainly his confrontations with L (still sad to see him gone every time, as well as Chief)... This is why, although Light Yagami was right, the moment he started killing those against him and perceived himself as a god (Kira) ... he was wrong
Light explained it clearly in Ep2 anyways, he is just willing to commit to the idea because he has the Tool and Will to accomplish the vision, and at the end of the day He Got Results done (70% reduced crime rate globally), meantime most people are just glad about what happens while they get to put on an altruistic face...
And like it or not... Light is an Amazing character that got you and everyone engaged in the story... But remember, every time U/anybody wish a person died or are indifferent towards someone's death because they did/were someone U disliked (kinda like ... Light) ... U were actually a Kira supporter, even if just for a moment...
PS: Hopefully you consider reading the Minoru manga sequel which is about Post-Kira world (though short, a worthy sequel in my opinion, specially as a social experiment). Take care ✌🏻👍🏻
Idk man I think as soon as Light starts killing "people who don't contribute to society" his ideals are way below righteous. His methods aren't sound either. Using cult websites to report people to Kira seems like modern day witch trials and even without that, Light definitely killed a good amount of wrongly incarcerated people, which is one of the main reasons why so many people are against the death penalty. Besides, just hearing him talk about himself makes him hard to get behind. As a character who's fun to root for, sure but even without the Death Note this dude is just rotten and manipulative.

Misa deserves no sympathy, lol. She was already a killer for the fun of it and used her later crush on Light as an excuse for her actions.
But she dont rember tho she lost tho she jast normal girl now
she only killed 2 reporters and the cops at Sakura TV to get Lights attention. After that she didnt kill anyone until regaining her memory, and we see her reaction to it. She had a brainwashed look in her eyes and sung that song that essentially said "i know too much and i will have to die one day" She killed 8 criminals that we know of after gaining her memory, so 15 at most.
Where as light killed..... ALOT
Hey Meg, if you didnt know, there is an alternate ending in the directors cut version I would really like to see your reaction and hear your opinon to. ^^ (it doesnt really change much you basically get a 2 minute aftercredits scene).

Loved seeing your journey through the series and I hope you watch death note relight. The first one is kinda a retelling of everything up until the time skip in the context of Ryuk telling the story to a suspiciously familiar shinigami with L’s funeral included at the end. The second has a lot more new scenes but is still just a condensed retelling of everything after the Mello arc.
If you liked Death Note I believe you would love Monster and One Outs.
Duuuuude I didn't even know about this channel and now I have so many Death Note videos to watch while I wait for more Portal 2 (can't watch the other vids for spoiler reasons). I love Death Note. I just got the manga box set and the covers are more beautiful than I could've imagined. Some people are just evil. Sometimes theres isn't a reason or porpose, but just a way they can be evil.
People arent just evil theres so much more nuance than that. The world isnt black and white. Most people who do horrible things suffered from trauma or abuse or have some kind of mental issues that can or at least should be tried to be treated.
Still, there are a very few that are truly evil, no trauma or harm or any reason. Obviously everyone, even them, deserve the benefit of the doubt at first.

So, i totally understand what you're saying about Ryuk. For me all gods of death shown to us aren't scary at all. Yes, they're are scary looking, but also incredibly chill and nice somehow?

I think they must continue using the image of kira. Because when they reveal that light & his father died in the process, saying that kira also got killed it only make crimes get more & more worse...

It's weird, I don't remember Misa ever standing on the edge, it was like my brain completely swapped the scenes. For some reason I remembered the scene as her being finally free from Kira and anything related to that and that she simply hasn't learned her place in the new reality without Kira yet and was staring in horizon with wonder.
It's just she doesn't have memories of doing the killings via Death Note, and yet she has all of the remaining lifespan that she got from two different Shinigamis who sacrificed their lives for her (even though she halved her lifespan twice it should even out). We have to remember that all death in the universe still happens because of someone writing the name of a person in the Death Note, and without a mortal like Kira doing it, it's done by Gods of Death in their realm when it's time for a person to die. And I just don't see how Misa would decide to end it there without having memories of what she has done because technically she doesn't have free will. Unless somehow being a former user of Death Note made her break free from the normal rules and she could make that decision despite having all those Shinigami years ahead of her.

Watching L funeral make me sure Light is the real devil 🤣🤣
The manga ends a little differently. FIrstly, Light dies in the warehouse with everyone watching instead of along on a staircase. Ryuk kills him right there instead of helping him.
After that, there's a 1 year time skip. Masuda and Iwamatsu are now working with the new L (Near) and talk about Light. The final scene is a bunch of Kira supporters praying for Kira's return.

The show isn’t as interesting without L to me personally but the finale is great
I hate Light for killing L, Raye Penber & his wife (legit stopped rooting for him after that) and making Rem sacrifice himself but somehow, I still had sympathy for him when he was dying.

He can't go to hell, first of all, Ryuk stated, that people who had written into a death note can't go to hell or heaven, second of all in the death note universe neither heaven or hell exist.
It’d be very interesting if Ryuk was just implying that there are no such things as Heaven or Hell.
All we’ve ever seen is the human world and the shinigami world after all.

Because he is a murderous psychopath. The show does not want you to root for Light ffs, it shows how corrupt one can become when presented with unlimited power. Light is not a hero, he is a twisted, evil man.
