Excellent!. I went to university (in England) for 3 years and have a degree in Games Concept Design. The 3 years cost about as much as one year in FZD. But we spent more time doing 3D work and not drawing and there was NO design theory or application and the staff had never work as concept artists. The course was a BIG let down for me and others doing it. I think the one main thing that people need to study themselves is direction and structure. secondly i'd say having feedback. I'm really glad you've shared these because now I've got some structure to follow to improve the flaws and gaping holes in my education :D. Please don't worry about the time of the video, it's all helpful stuff, especially the "boring stuff" XD Thank you. I'm looking forward to the final year :D
It's probably better now based of feedback we gave. The best thing about uni, is that it gives you the time to really concentrate on your goals without having to juggle everything else like work and money etc. You have the time to develop the skills. I went to staffordshire University, Based in Stoke-On-Trent. You' might be a bit late for applying for this year though. But you might be able to get a clearing place.
Thanks for the reply, I was either thinking about either teeside or Staffordshire and it’s hard to find recent reviews about the school, I need to take a trip there and have a good talk with them before I decide, and I won’t be going this year it would be for starting next year September
@@aaronh560 I got accepted onto that course but chose another instead and sometimes wonder if I made the wrong choice, its interesting to hear your perspective. I really don't think schools in the UK have a solid grasp on how to teach concept art/illustration as a degree yet, I did a one year concept art masters and they didn't really teach us anything, they just said 'Design X amount of characters' and pretty much left us to it without lessons in the fundamentals, whilst stressing how important the fundamentals are.....if they're so important why not heavily integrate teaching them into your fucking course haha, the benefit of the course was definitely all the free time but not the teaching
Whoa, the quality of the work improved a lot from one term to another and I think term 1's work was already pretty good! I loved every single project you showed. You're so good ❤❤❤ I'm super inspired to draw now. Thank you for showing it to us 😄
I love this one a lot and I would even want to join it. It seems so much fun to quickly burst yourself into a managable but really enjoyable project and then have to present it. Projects about evolutionary biology, game level design, fantasy giants and a theme park all but in a matter of weeks has to be super fun and diverse. Good luck with managing everything you do and keep being the way you are; awesome!
Dina just so you know I don't mind longer videos your very nice to look at and listen too and even though I just found this channel two weeks ago I love your work and aspire to be like you now. Keep up the great work and remember to take breaks when you have a lot going on.
I have been working as a professional artist for 6 years now and when I got started I was also very proud of my allnighters or only 4h sleep nights, but honestly now I think it's actually a sign that a person is inexpierienced or bad at time management if they can't finish their work at normal work hours. But I guess that's what makes you faster, testing out your limits. Great Video. Thank you so much!
Watching these videos really inspires me to keep improving, you really should show off more of your art! You are such a big inspiration to me and I hope you keep doing what you are doing.
Would you ever consider going over these term videos again but in more detail? I think I speak for a lot of people when I say it would be amazing to see you go through every folder in depth and not worry about the "boring" stuff or the length of the video. A lot of us would like to see and learn what you did, boring or not :)
This is so inspiring! The amount of time you must have put in and the quality of your work is amazing! It must have been so much fun to branch out and experiment with all these different assignments, it seems like they really pushed you to be as imaginative as possible. That's something I wish I could have been able to explore more during my time at university (I'm currently in my final year), but gives me a lot of inspiration for projects I could consider once I've finished. I really liked your 'Theme Park' project in particular! Thank you so much for sharing your work, it was great to see what you came up with and I look forward to seeing more of your work in the future! :)
What you show (which btw is all so lovely) is exactly what I want to learn but the school I'm on focuses on different aspects of design. And I just got so downhearted because I feel that I'm not studying the right thing. Then I read your disclaimer - thanks for giving aspiration, for those who believe skill and achievements are bound to the school one is on
These are great! I need to get a project prompt list like this to work on something like weekly or monthly to force me to think outside the box with my art 💜💜💜 loving these!!
King Grim Reaper yh but it has this ONE rotten comment I've made when I first joined this community and its bothering me, I hope I didn't tear down an artist bcuz of that....
I so direly wish for a process or instructional video on the process of something like the "Olympus star temple" illustration. it turned so stunningly I just adore the details~
You know what I didn't use any for that one! We hadn't learned 3D yet so it wasn't in my workflow. And I don't think you were allowed either, you just had to draw all your perspective lines and hope that it looks good :) If I has used 3D then it would have been sketchup though ;)
Hey really love your journey... And even those perspective practice drawing... Seems really cool to me... I am a cg artist and I really wanted to get started in drawing...I hope one day I will be half as good as you... :D till then keep inspiring ^_^ ^_^
Hi Dina. It so cool to see your school projects. I've always been curious on FZD students learn how to draw and pose the figure for character design. Can you share your knowledge on what assignments and exercises you did at FZD that helped you learn how to draw figures for character design? Or perhaps a short video demonstrating an example on how it's done?
This artist has passed away.... I had no idea. Im just beginning my art journey, and I needed some knowledge on how to co-create my own curriculum and her video came in my feed. I went over to her Ig link, and discovered she is no longer here.... IT SUCKS, cuz she literally helped me so much in initializing my learning process.......
great videos Dina! I'd like to see a video of what you'd recommend for training material that one can use to become a concept artist and bypass schooling.
Hey Dina! Amazing video. I'm considering joining the school next year, how hard is it to be admitted in the school? Could you show an example of portfolio that got you accepted? That would be awesome and really would help!
6:56 GIANT CROW! we are all doomed. thank god humans aren't around when hes around. Hell bite off your head... after talking to you with his evolved mouth thing. lol scariest thing I ever saw, really well drawn too
amazing studies! yes I have to admit it is very interesting, but is this one year design course really worth 40.000$? And could you show your Portfolio you made for the application in the next episode?
Dont get discourage. I believe it's not about the school because I have seen other FZD students work and it's not that good. She said she was always the bottom of the pile in her class because she was new to drawing. It's not true that every student came out of that school became good. it depends on what level your at. I believe that Dina is a talented artist before going to that school that is why her work looks beautiful. Everyone of us is unique we have different background and culture. going to school is not always a good investment specially in art.
gey dinaa i loveee your work. so cool. question- did you study complete anatomy (bones, muscles all these basics) and proper perspective because your environments and characters even animals are done so brilliantly done in all the perspectives? i checked your term one and even for a term one student you're sooo amazing. so just thought i'll drop that question.
Interesting, do you have any book/resource/video that explains in detail the "thinking part" of design? I finished Scott's book already and I'm working my way towards design.
You are great 😱OMG They are awesome 😱😱😨😨😨😨😨😨 A question:you painted them in university or shool or college? P.s:sorry about the question My English is not very well and i don't understand everything in your video😢🙁
Question. This may come out as a silly question but for your reference photos, what kind of words did you use to find those images because I’m not able to find references like in your work
SSKDev You should look in books, e.g. the DK Eyewitness books meant for kids, picture books, magazines such as National Geographic, GEO, etc. On the internet, you can mostly find stock photos or unprofessional ones, whereas books and magazines have the good stuff.
Hi there! The school is pretty damn expensive and stressful, but it is only 1 years so you will improve if you put in the effort! Though.. you can get the same education in concept art (not really recommended for children's book illustrators, I just happen to do both) from schools like Brainstorm (in the US) and online courses. Also, FZD follows this book exactly as its curriculum so I recommend getting than and self-study first: www.amazon.com/How-Draw-sketching-environments-imagination/dp/1933492732/ref=pd_sim_14_4?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=1933492732&pd_rd_r=f55b8e7c-ad05-11e8-a3d9-8f6065affc51&pd_rd_w=jiSyZ&pd_rd_wg=FylcN&pf_rd_i=desktop-dp-sims&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_p=a180fdfb-b54e-4904-85ba-d852197d6c09&pf_rd_r=RWR67N2GBXSVH3J8A8FC&pf_rd_s=desktop-dp-sims&pf_rd_t=40701&psc=1&refRID=RWR67N2GBXSVH3J8A8FC A lot cheaper than the school! But if you still want to go after that cool :)
future evolution concepts.. every time i see ffz assignment s i think - this is very cool, but where would you need these skills? whole game industry is copying old types and concepts with like 1% difference between each other. Maybe for mega expensive movies such as avatar but they are so rare and probably consulted by professional anthropologists and other scientists. Typical day to day job of a concept artist would be rearranging google images in different combinations not inventing new concepts, paradoxically.
Working all night seems silly to me, does it REALLY get you ahead? If you are not sleeping your memory retention is going to just flush half of what you learned that night out the window anyways. I think you were right to sleep about 5 hours though, I mean I get cutting back on it, but if you are not getting at least 5 or 6 you are just hurting yourself. Become an artist, and then die of a stroke 5 years later does no one any good.
Wow, this seems like tons of work! But exciting too! You must have learned so much. I love all the animal drawings.
Excellent!. I went to university (in England) for 3 years and have a degree in Games Concept Design. The 3 years cost about as much as one year in FZD. Yea, having that Structure of "whats the most efficient way to study" answered by these videos reeaaaaly helps out
What uni did you go to? I’m looking at applying and want to know if it’s worth it

OK from all the projects so far! my fave project is your adorable witch's theme park train! its adorable!!!
Thanks for this video, specially the confirmation that FZD follows Scott Robertson's teachings.
I appreciate it. Keep it up.

These are so cool! And OMG how much time you had to invest in these :D Respect for not going total crazy from the pressure :D
Please stop saying that your work is boring.....nothing I have seen so far is boring. Stunning work! Well Done!!!!
the anthurium in the beginning so unexpected, i love those plants i got a pot for my birthday
I have been working as a professional artist for 6 years now and when I got started I was also very proud of my allnighters or only 4h sleep nights, but honestly now I think it's actually a sign that a person is inexpierienced or bad at time management if they can't finish their work at normal work hours. I loved every inch of your project.
YES! CROWS HAVE TAKEN OVER THE EARTH! am i the only one that was anticipating this evolution? xD
My favourite was the human type crow, it was amazing.😍
Wow this is so great, thank you so much for sharing it!
16:55 ohh like Ronja Rövardotter, god do i love that movie c: but i was always scared of the birds and ” rumpnissarna ”

I've seen Ronja long ago (I'm from Finland). I should watch it again. The reunion between Ronja and her father was my favorite scene and made me cry.
You are really, really good. Amazing work. Wow. You are blessed with talent!

Haha we did! The term after had the worst time, having to redo anything that was wrong xD (were you in that term? :o)

This is so cool and inspireing!!!!

I wanna play that game

i'm already a member of svs. I do want to go to fzd but i'm not sure if it is best suited for illustrators.
i recommend schoolism.com classes
oh my god the theme park
Can I ask you a question? How old was you when I attended the FZD school???
😍
Hi. Is this from FZD School?
So basically: Dina’s super extra
HOW DO YOU EVEN HAVE TIME TO MAKE THESE??!
Equi TheMan They sleep only like 4 hours and work the whole rest of the time during that school year.
