Hello Alexander, I'm going back and watching the older videos. I have a 1919 Victor Victrola Talking Machine. When I bought it, the man I bought it from said I should always let the player run down after I was done listening- don't turn it off leaving tension on the spring. Helps it last longer.
Now this is my kind of antiques! “Wax”, shellac, and vintage vinyl! Being able to listen to actual sounds and music recorded a hundred years ago is like a form of time travel. So cool. I also love listening to old radio transcriptions through antique radios for the same reason! It’s always fun to see old phonographs, records, and radios on your channel and know that someone is finding them good homes. 😉
Hi Alex, I've been a subscriber for only about 6 weeks now, so I'm trawling through from the beginning. This seems to be the first video I can find. :)
Came across this device in a famous short story by Somerset Maugham ("Rain" - originally published as "Miss Thompson" in April 1921). Extremely interesting. Many thanks for posting.
indeed like Tjazzer says this is a phonograph, in fact, it's an Edison Amberola model 30 the cylinder record is billy murry the little ford rambled right along from 1915 indeed its a bit slow but also the gaskets of the reproducer need to be replaced it sounds too scratchy and the machine is missing the original top and front grilles
Edisons are called phonographs, not gramophones which play discs. It plays cylinders, not reels. You should look into regulating the speed as it is playing much too slowly.
I was digging that tune!
