Hey, in my opinion, Ryan Adams is one of the best musicians around. I love his music, I grew up with it, so I guess that's understandable. Not everyone has to agree, opinion is a personal thing after all! :)
@MrBlackBrit Sir Elton is a piano virtuoso that very few can even come close to matching. I've read some very good articles from piano teachers and critics who mostly think his piano talents are rare. He also has an incredible voice which has made him one of the biggest selling artists of all time. 250+ million and counting. Actually, I'm surprised he hasn't sold more but that's still an incredible number. And I love how much he loves his British roots. I wish him and David all the best.
i have the whole [televised] show, and FLACs of the entire performance (which includes la cienega just smiled, mona lisa and mad hatters, and other outtakes.
Ryan's voice used to be so much better back in his 20s and 30s. Heartbreaker, Gold, Demolition, Cold Roses, JCN - such amazing albums, not to mention the Whiskeytown days.. shame all that's happened since.
Hey Elton remember 33 years ago when Marina S sent you a poem called BLUE JEAN BABY HER TITLE ON CB AND SHE HAD THE WORDS DANCING IN THE SAND; THANKS FOR NOT ACKNOWLEDGING HER AND PAYING ZIPP ALL. She was 17 and sent you this poem Imagine someone with a crush on you and you steal her song.
Ryan is a gifted singer/songwriter. I'm glad he sobered up before he did any serious damage. I love this and their Answering Bell duet. I don't know how Ryan took being told by EJ that his Heartbreaker Album changed his life. How in the hell do you respond to that or even take it in, knowing the life that EJ's had? I would say that's a pretty powerful endorsement of Ryan's musical skills.
And much of the power is circumnavigating his relationship with Taupin…I wrote all of the cuts on the album…and then EJ got the storylines for every cut on View From The Diving Board from Adams…who got them from me
This song always reminds me of the fact that Elton John has made some really great songs before Nikita. Besides Tiny Dancer, for example Goodbye yellow brick Road. Ryan Adams is great. Too bad this is not a real video of the live performance, instead of a collage of fotos.
There are a few RA bootlegs I have, where he 'goes for it' on some of his own stuff... the WHOLE reason that record labels don't like bootlegs!!! but in this one, he's thought about it a bit!!!
@CF1975 , Daniel, Crocodile rock, get Elton's first greatest hits album. Ryan Adams is probably one of the greatest song writers alive today. Elton does a great cover of sweet carolina. Check it out. Cheers
Very nice!!...maybe Elton should coach Ryan on how to sing his own songs cause he sounds good here, but when I listen to Ryan sing his own songs they're so ....depressing and mumbled. This is fun though! Thanks for posting!

I am not measuring anything based on popularity. I simply said that I don't care for his music. Again, he is OK, but I just don't think he "the greatest of all time." If you like his lyrics, that is entirely your choice. You shouldn't be offended that I don't. The comment about his popularity was just an observation that people just don't seem to be that excited about his stuff. That's all.
So, if people are excited about the music, they're good, aren0t they? ergo Britney Spears, Backstreet boys are the best of all time. People are really really excited about them... People don't care about his music, so what? His quality is there, people like American Idol, Big Brother etc, etc Quality? 0.0000. Van Gogh sold one only Picture to his OWN brother in all his life, people didn't care about him, BUT he is a genious. Again, popularity sais nothing.
i never said he was the best. i just don't think he is just ok or an average musician just because he is not popular, i don't care if you don't like him, but give some good reason to say his average, not that he's not popular...
Oh, and the fact that I am not that into Ryan Adams doesn't make me ignorant or uninformed. "Oh, if you only really listened to him, you'd really see why he's the greatest," is actually pretty narrow minded, don't you think? I have heard him, I just don't like his music that much. Again, he's OK -- just not "great." And I do like Elton John's music, but I don't need anyone, including Elton, to tell me who I should be listening to. Is that how you choose who you listen to?
if you're going to mesaure someones quality by his popularity... then britney spears, mariah carey and company are the greatest artists in the world.... quality and quantity do not have to go together. I really like Ryan's lyrics, much more than Elton's, but i recognize that Elton is unique and a genie, such as Ryan, maybe not yet, not now... time will say. (Bruce Springsteen needed 10 years and 3 or 4 albums to be... The Boss...)
I'll stick with my original comment. I have heard Ryan Adams. And he's OK, but pretty far from the greatest singer/songwriter of the past decade. I like a few odd bands/artists, too, and I think they're the greatest of all time. But no one else does -- I just accept that. And you don't need the radio or labels to sell music these days - this medium works very well. But STILL no one really knows Ryan Adams because not enough people are excited about his music to turn their friends on to him.
Sorry, but Ryan Adams is pretty effing far from "probably the greatest singer/songwriters of the past decade." If that were true, everyone would know him. No one knows him. I take that back, aside from a few loyal supporters, no one knows him. Elton John IS a legend and one of the greatest singer/songwriters of all time. But Ryan Adams? Just another average musician. That's all.
My all time favorite song. i still remember the exact moment I first heard it. I fall in love with it again every time I hear it.
This is such a brilliant song and love the duet with Ryan Adams -- who is incredibly talented!
So good! hits me in the gut, shivers and prickles when they hit the notes for the chorus.
simply amazing.
Love it my favorite version of this classic tune , good on ya lads!!!!!!
That voice. So damn goooood.
I remember seeing this when it first aired on tv, it was wonderful. Still sounds just as good. Thanks so much for sharing it.
I would have never put these two together but after hearing seeing this clip they need to do an album IMO. Fantastic!
Hey, in my opinion, Ryan Adams is one of the best musicians around. I love his music, I grew up with it, so I guess that's understandable.
Not everyone has to agree, opinion is a personal thing after all! :)
love this, shows the best of both performers
I 2nd the idea of EJ & RA doing an album together!
I miss you Ryan. Grow up a little more like this rendition.
I wanna see you....

¡WOW! ¡What a magic moment!

Wow, tremendous cover. I did notice he wisely backed off going for the higher falsetto note on the "hold me close..." lines.
Wow, you should be in music
@jainonen. It would be nice to see the full video, it sounds beautiful. The video of them singing Answering Bell is awesome.
elton john is one of the last true stalwarts of pure, genuine british rock...

@MrDantheguitarman He wrote the music for it. Bernie writes the words....this is an established fact for 43 years now.
Fuck. This is fantastic.

TELL ME AGAIN ABOUT THE POWER IN EJ’s KUDO
Haha, now I see. Thanks.
@007koko007 Correction 39 years ago. She sent the peom to Bernie Taupin. And what the hell do you know; anyways
@007koko007 She had a crush on him and sent him the poem with much of the same words in the song. Her Mom is awitness she sent it to his Fan mail.
@Zendrix3 the beatles did!
I think you both just wrote a hit song.
I love hearing these two perform together! Does video of this CMT Crossroads exist anywhere? DVD? Online? I've looked everywhere but no luck.
This song always reminds me of the fact that Elton John has made some really great songs before Nikita. Besides Tiny Dancer, for example Goodbye yellow brick Road. Ryan Adams is great. Too bad this is not a real video of the live performance, instead of a collage of fotos.
No. I did not write this in its entirety, although ‘Mona Lisa’s And Mad Hatters ‘ is mine word for word

Oh, Vinny would have loved this : /
@CF1975 , Daniel, Crocodile rock, get Elton's first greatest hits album. Ryan Adams is probably one of the greatest song writers alive today. Elton does a great cover of sweet carolina. Check it out.

consequently, that conglomeration may not be possible::: beside which, a shrewd business man( 'stage jitters' or no) why compete simultaneity

@Jointheir777, Tiny Dancer is 39 years old song, so it seems that Marina S. stole lyrics from Bernie! :p
@CF1975 , Daniel, Crocodile rock, get Elton's first greatest hits album. Ryan Adams is probably one of the greatest song writers alive today. Elton does a great cover of sweet carolina. Check it out.
Cheets
@daust126 Elton wrote ALL of the songs... Bernie wrote the words, Elton wrote the music.
@Jointheir777 That you mentioned are 6 words that are far from the whole song.

ZOMG Hes sining it too fast

Boy, Elton is really sounding old on this one. Should have let Ryan sing the whole tune.
Oh, and the fact that I am not that into Ryan Adams doesn't make me ignorant or uninformed.
