I told my young son years ago the correct way to mulch. We were at a new outdoor mall on the first day it opened. My young son said look at this mulch job and started to pull the mulch away from the new trees and shrubs. I turn around and see a news crew filming my son. Along side the news crew was the mall owner, our state governor and our US senator. The governor asked my son if something was wrong. my son looked up to her and said this is not how you mulch.

Great tips, when you say premium charging. How much a job like would cost to do? Landed a big project and don’t know how much to charge, man hour or job done?

Job done. But you have to know how you need to charge based off of how much you want to make as a salary how much overhead you have and so forth a budgeting software like LMN helps greatly with this.

You never talked about one of the most important factors - HOW THICK SHOULD THE MULCH BE PUT DOWN?

I wish my state didn't require a license for Roundup.

Hi. Nice video. I like the suggestion of offering of upselling a "spray & bury" service with a weed preventer. How much would you charge for the service?

    • @Aumanlandscape
      @Aumanlandscape  4 місяці тому

Would vary by size and time.

@@Aumanlandscape Ok. Say it is a one yard flat area. What would your charge?

What chemical do you use for the beds ? Just had a job that I did weeds are already growing back
And what products is good for pre emergent on flower beds ?

When we do. It’s a general glyphosate. And we use snapshot or treflan for pre-emergent, but you have to keep in mind that needs to get rained into the soil and even then take some time to take effect

Hey there Caleb! Hope you are well. I really appreciate the info in the video. It really makes me wonder; with so many professionals that know how to mulch and plant trees properly, how is this still so prevalent? Is it really because time is money, so they just drop it a go? Or all the mulchcanos that you see in road medians. I mean somebody is teaching it. Right?

Good question! I think some people are just poorly trained.

I like to bury at least 3 feet of the trunk in a mulch volcano so that in the next few years the tree develops girdling roots then the customer pays again for me to cut down and replant then the mulch starts the whole cycle anew.

What’s the best way to move the mulch? With a 10-tine pitch fork?
Also, what are u suppose to do with mulch against a building? I know u aren’t suppose to put it bc of insects/termites…so what are u suppose to do if the mulch bed is along the side of a building? Thanks!!!!!

Our guys are currently using bagged mulch for ease of handling. And mulch cannot be placed directly against siding or any surface other than concrete foundation

If I'm doing a residence playground, is it safer / easier to maintain to use chips instead of mulch?

    • @Aumanlandscape

I would advise you use a certified playground mulch.

Why sell mulch when you can sell more plants and fill in the garden beds with more plants and or ground covers to the point we're you don't need mulch

Many customers support the eco friendly hand weeding option.. as part of any strong IPM program.. cultural physical mechanical THEN chemical control options (in that order). Round up should not be thr first thought to control weeds.

I agree with you. However when you bill out at rates that we do it’s rare that clients see the value in so much expensive labor.

What a shame. Didnt even clean walks. Doesnt matter if they did edging properly or thinned mulch near plants and trees, or any of the other things they should have done, worst offense we can ever do is not do a good job cleaning up. A good job is lost with bad clean up. Just finished 58 yard job today for a house thats going on the market, realtor and homeowner are elated

I’m fairly confident contractor charged premium price for “ok work”. I’ve found a large number of people are ok with ok work … 🤮
