    Some would say that Eric is being "humble" in his assessment to his career time with Prince. I believe Eric is just being real. He doesn't make the experience more than what it actually was. As a follower of Prince and his music, and an owner of everyone of his albums from For You to Hit n Run phase 2, (even 94 East Minneapolis studio recordings), I appreciate that. Many people see Prince thru the star struck glasses.
    Even though my wife and I met and talked to him personally on one occasion, and saw several of his live performances, Eric presents Prince as a talented dude
    who is a real flesh and blood person.

    Probably the best 'No-Bullshit-To-It' interviews, related to Prince, I've heard. Eric Leeds, much respect for keepin' it real !!!

    I am shocked by the negative comments on this post. This was an open, honest and extremely informative interview with Eric, a very talented musician who worked with Prince for many years. He praised Prince many times for the incredible musician that he was, and also for the opportunity he gave him to play and release music. His description of the negative aspects of working with Prince have all been said before by numerous musicians affiliated with Prince. Prince was a pop artist and a relentless perfectionist with his live concerts. This was documented on the "behind the scenes" footage of the Lovesexy tour. Eric is a Jazz musician. It is understandable that he would not enjoy the theatrical side of the "pop" music industry. I was very impressed with his frankness and ability to detail the story of his time with Prince, and also his own history and musical influences. I hope Prince Podcast follows his suggestion to interview Paul Peterson and Susannah as well.

    I listened to all Four parts. Truly time well spent. The behind-the-scenes history. I would equally love to hear Alan Leeds James Brown stories.

    Hands down...One of the BEST interviews EVER....It took me about 3 days to get through this entire interview...listening and researching each point at a time...it was like an audio documentary. Very well done.

    Many" Jellyfish" moments across these 4 parts. What stands out for me is there seems to be this agenda to undermine or diminish Prince's legacy and claim some kind of higher authority on it. If a compliment is paid it is quickly lessened after a few sentences. The whole thing screamed bitterness and jealousy. Those who follow Prince know he could be" difficult," he certainly was no saint, but there is a different agenda at work here. You hear it with the Leeds brothers in anything concerning Prince, but especially Eric and it does make you wonder what the hell Prince did to them to make them soooo disingenuous towards him.

      John Smith . Facts very welcome and there were a few........it was the passive aggressive sniping I found distateful. Plenty of people on here didnt hear what I heard so let's not sweat it , just my two cents.

    • @darkbluebossa
      @darkbluebossa 6 років тому +6

      Sorry, but I didnt see nothing like him ´trying to diminish Prince´s legacy´. He only narrated his experience, talked about his heroes, his time with different Prince bands, the meeting with Miles, etc

    WOW!! THE GOLD EXPERIENCE I didn't think Susan Rogers interview could be topped but u killed it. I really did appreciate Eric's frankness. I know some didn't, but I did he kept it 100 FOR SURE!! He made Prince seem like a regular person. I can appreciate that.
    Definitely looking forward to Alan next.

      Trey Donan Questlove did an extensive interview with Alan on his Pandora show "Questlove Supreme". Very informative, going back to how he got started in the business and with James Brown, and of course, Prince. Also, Alan Leeds is a main contributor/source for Alan Light's book on the making of Purple Rain. Really good book if you haven't already read it.

    I have an idea from listening to part 4 of this interview that if Prince knew he was going to die that he would've torched the stuff in the vault. Gone. Let the stuff live that he was proud of. Just a hypothesis. There's the other thing too that he was hoping to give it to an heir. So sad.

    The song "In a Large Room with No Light" is performed by Prince at the Montreaux Jazz Festival in 2009. I was surprised by the sound of that song, and figured that it was something that was unreleased, but I love it! If you can find a video of that concert, it is AMAZING! His guitar solos in that performance are ON FIRE! And I have to add: I agree with Leeds and am no longer really interested in music. I don't get excited about music or any performers anymore. Sometimes people will give me a suggestion about some performer that they think is okay, and, well...meh.

      Oaty Dave not so. Morris has done some amazing 3 - 4 hour interviews with Peach and Black podcast and Funknstuff on UA-cam and he puts Eric to shame with his humour, his generosity, his insights and above all his integrity when talking about Prince.

    Question: Who is Michael Deen?

  • @carlosmorales606
    @carlosmorales606 6 років тому

    Wow, that was really cool. Thanks Eric for opening up and giving us all those stories. Just by coincidence
    I was at a gig this past summer working as a stagehand and noticed that Rocco had a sub that sat off stage left. He also had his bass rig in bass set up. I wonder if this is that Mark, he’s a referring to.This was Tower of power headlining with Ohio players opening up. I should say that the lead vocalist for Tower of Power is on fire. The association of great artists is so astounding on this Podcasts. With reference to Paul Peterson playing bass for Peter Frampton. Peter Frampton guitar player for David Bowie.

      David Basile as much as I think Eric Leeds is an *unappreciative* asshole and *fraud* but come on, the first madhouse is good but it doesn’t even come close to a The Miles Davis Album “a kind of Blue”
      Would have been nice to have Miles on the Madhouse album instead of Eric.
