For me a data steward is a data steward, there are no types. Technical Data Steward is just a database admin or data engineer. Call them what they actually are instead of giving them all the same surname.

It's mostly because some of these roles might have more stewardship responsibilities than a database admin or a data engineer would. But the name doesn't matter as much as the job description and responsibilities.

You came up with all the type of flavor Data Stewardships just for you tube. Please do not exploit.
End of the day, Domain/Functional/.Business vs Technical Data Stewards.

Not at all. I believe that it was the famous David Plotkin that mentioned these in one of his many books and where I learned these from.

tbh its a lot of nice theory but too much data steward types. Which so called professor in his castle invented this?
And calling some one data steward as they are kings and lot of knowledge is underrated. Call them data process manager /data functional manager /data business manager/data domain manager/data engineer manager.
How do they work with the product owner?

Mr Plotkin wrote about them a few times, though I’m not sure if he “invented” these. It doesn’t matter their titles, but just to be aware that for business data steward you could have different focus areas: either on a system, a process, a department, or the entire domain. Ideally it’s for a domain, with expertise that they bring from a system/process/department perspective.

@@LightsOnData I do think naming does matter. In football terms the line steward helps the referee. As data steward you manage and are responsible for different domains by yourself. I dont think the CIO wants to be called IT manager.

@@mathijs9365 I think that depends on the culture of the organization, but yes, in general people prefer to have these awesome titles. In the case of data stewardship, though, a lot of times data stewardship is on the list of responsibilities of their "main" role and not a data stewardship role itself. But now we're getting into another conversation.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this, by the way. I appreciate it.
