Before watching this I collected eggshells and I already had the skin out of the shells. I just took the skin out while the eggshells were still hot. The same as I remember way back when we used eggshells for easter crafts. You may find other ideas if you search easter egg crafts somewhere online. After watching: did this same stuff when I was a kid. Makes great for a sandy beach painting and great for easter baskets in a painting, tulips are beautiful done with eggshells. Thanks
I ran hot water inside the shells and it worked great! Just peeled right off! :) I am saving up the egg shells to do this project soon super excited! :D Thank you for sharing the egg shell technique!
I absolutely love the texture . I dabble in abstract and have a thing for textures . this is an amazing idea , so creative, Fantastic. Thank you for sharing,.
Awesome texture...looks like reptile/dragon skin..I'm gonna give this a go as soon as I get enough egg shells(my mate has chickens so I can get plenty of free eggs:)...) I am gonna do a dragons eye surrounded by green scales....again awesome texture..cheers from Australia...:)
I just discovered your channel, this is awesome! I saw a video last night about using egg shells. This girl ground up some egg shells, and she sprinkled it in between the big ones. It was a really cool effect.
I n't gonnawatch this all the way through because it was dang eggshells, but girl, that looks friggin awesome.i'm making a dragon's head mount and I might use this for it's skin.very nicely done!
I really like this texture and I've never heard of using shoe polish. (guess who will be buying shoe polish tomorrow) I'd love to see a finished product using this piece. Is there a video of that process? Keep these wonderful videos coming. You make things so easy to understand.
Put the eggshells in HOT water and 2 caps of Vinegar . Let it sit for a while.. the insides come right out. I also used pointed wooden Bamboo Skewer to help me :)
Hi Amy. I am a beginner at ?????. I'm not sure what I am doing yet. Multi media, art journal, canvas??? A month or so ago I ran across your texturizing videos. Loved them and immediately went on to something else (I'm going crazy and broke trying to figure out what I like to do best). I was looking at some cool art journals last night and just HAD TO HAVE the stencil used in one of the videos, it cost 8 bucks with shipping. Did I mention going broke? It's because, in part, from buying stencils (I cannot draw nor doodle). Finally, the angel side of me said, "remember your promise?? No more stencils. Go find the texture lady!!". And wa-laa, I had subscribed to you and once again, I love the videos and lessons!! Thank you. :-)
You could bake the shells to dry up the skins. Also I don't know if boiling the eggs pulls the skin off when you peel the eggs. Then you can make yummy nummy egg sandwiches!
I love this video...I cannot wait to try it! It is going to take me a while to collect enough eggshells for the large picture that I want, but I am starting today. I love your channel and I am a subbie. Your tutorials are so awesome!
I wonder how fragile the painting is when it's done? If it was bumped would the convex shells break? Because it seems there would be an air space under each piece.
Another way to remove the membrane from the shell. When you empty shell, dip your finger in pure vinegar. Run in the inside of the washed out egg shell, the vinegar is acidic and there's no problem with pushing the membrane out of the shell as well you will be able to tear it out. Hope this is explained well enough. (Jan. 29/15).
+Amy Pearce (Her Art from the Attic) Can you please answer +beetlewing's question in regards to using shoe polish? "Am I missing something? What's the advantage of shoe polish over just using a black paint wash? How does shoe polish handle additional layers of paint or a clear coat? Don't get me wrong - enjoyed the video."
Just found your channel. We are trying to find some interesting ideas for a painting to put over our couch - this might just work! A question: does the odor of the shoe polish recede after a while? That stuff is pretty stinky.
Amy i tried zapping them in the microwave it works pretty well......but be careful they are very hot......cover container add some water and zap 'em...peel very easy

Adding texture with egg shells was great and very creative.
Visiting an artist friend over the holidays who shared your egg shell texture technique. Going to try it.

That is exactly what I thought. It is perfect for a dragon scale look...🐣 Who would a thought.
Very nice...I also liked it without any colour as in just with egg shells n layers of glue..looked soft n lovely

Thank you Amy. A great way to get the depth look. I love creative thinking. Thanks for sharing.

Loved it. I think the advantage of shoe polish is the oil in the polish does not allow the color to dry as fast allowing you to really work with it.
I n't gonnawatch this all the way through because it was dang eggshells, but girl, that looks friggin awesome.i'm making a dragon's head mount and I might use this for it's skin.very nicely done!
I am actually collecting egg shells now because of your video. ;) Decided to make a big version, 80x80 cm. :)

What a neat idea! Definitely something to mess around with. Thank you for the great tutorial.
How does the shoe polish stay on the canvas when you're done? Do you modpodge over the top of the whole painting?
Cool art! Please make more videos out of texture. Great job! 👍🏼

This is a great idea, too! Thanks! I'm having a lot of fun with using the eggshells for texture, but this part is definitely time consuming.
