Cleared the East Wall last Monday 112320. Made the entire climb in one shot (no stops). Felt awesome. Built up lots of strength and endurance this season. Plus the Ripley rips on climbs. Fork and shock both in open. Granny 50 gear. About 5 minutes straight of direct crank climbing with zero break with butt on seat and front tire on best ground (lots of loose rocks and slippery dust dirt to avoid). Happy camper.
After the overlook and start of Sardine Peak trail near Snowbasin in Ogden is a similar climb. I climbed it Thursday with a rented bike but got too far right near the top and had to unclip. I’m two months away from 60! Doesn’t come easy any more for sure. But a great challenge.
Ben, that is fantastic! Love that you are riding late 50s and plan to ride into 60s. Gives me hope. With every missed line, we get wiser, and that much closer to our goal. You'll go farther next time. Keep pushing.
So true. And the consistency of the climb - no breaks. That first part is so steep, it often wears me out. Only made it maybe ten times with zero stops from bottom to top. Tougher than it looks. : )
The East Wall is steeper than most trails (including Mt Falcon) at the very beginning, whenit first turns left. The East Wall is realatively flat trail with slippery elements (loose rock and dust). Mt Falcon is much much longer (10 times) and a continuous burn with varying terrain.
Cool. I had 32 tooth front chainring and 50 back cassette entire climb. Rode that granny gear up. To go 1 km non-stop on steeper is very impressive. You are an animal. : )
Question I’ve talk to you before how are you doing. My only complaint on my bike and I’m nitpicky is the engagement of the hub what do you feel about that for technical climbing and stuff don’t know if I should spend the money and get a different hubs . Thanks
Personal choice. I have not had any issue. But - I have never had a higher engagement hub to compare it. Might contact Ibis to see if they have an upgrade kit.
50mtb I don’t think those are the official names but it should be. Steep, rocky and sharp cutbacks. At least they are short compared to your trails. It would be nothing to a trooper like you. And you don’t even get much downhill for all the pain. Keep in mind I’m not much of a climber and I whine a lot! Lol!
What is your steepest trail?
Do you launch down it? I love the climb for the down haha
Sometimes. Often I climb all the way to the tip top, then fly down the other side. : )

Man that looks like a tough one. Great effort Mike!
Love the challenge.
The camera really doesn't show how nuts a climb that is. It's not just the steep but also all the loose chunk.

Goat Hill and jelly legs.
Sweet. Where are those rides? What makes them so tough?
