Bro whenever I try to build a ship, I feel like I'm WAY too worried on protecting certain things. I always put stuff like hydro tanks, reactors and whatnot in the core of the ship so they don't blow up in combat. And then seeing you place hydro tanks on the balls made me consider life choices
I just watched all three (Miner, Hauler, L. Frigate) videos. I can make small ships reasonably well but watching the processes in these videos is definitely helpful. Started a new large ship in creative myself and it's turning out way better thanks to these.

Playing space engineers is like playing with a fucking Rubiks cube I swear to god I’ll be out here flipping and flopping twisting and turning trying to get my blocks all in a row lol!

This is absolutely fucking amazing I've been searching everywhere on how to build a functional ship. Just starting playing. I need a better understanding of the mechanics when building ships and how everything connects.
The nacelles scream 'shoot me', you should fill them with covered thrusters rather than store h2 there. I think the main trunk of conveyance down the middle is another classic mistake. If you decentralized conveyance into a loop around the ship instead, you could also spread h2 along that loop and take care of both weaknesses at once.
personally, when I make ships, I make sure there is enough room for moving around with thing's easy to assess and get to, almost as if you plan to live in them, which I think is realistic

If you look at Lunar's toolbar, everything is backwards and his hotkeys for everything aren't the normal ones. I don't know why he doesn't use his Ctrl+1-9 toolbars, but I assume it's something related to that. It also drives me crazy he doesn't use them in any of his videos or series.
@@LunarKolony Do you think you could change things up and use the multiple toolbars instead of the G menu so you don't have to constantly replace things on your hotbar?
I know what I'm about to propose is a dumb idea but can someone rebuild this on small Grid Scale and put an SE-Plushie in as the Pilot on the bridge? If you then put a remote Control in it's not even that useless...if anyone does this, please give me a workshop link...
I love this ship design but I’m having trouble turning it into like a starter ship because I really want to put a refinery in it and an assembler and change out the engines to ion because if I’m being honest I have no intentions of landing on a planet unless absolutely necessary

I’m planning on hollowing it out for the refit (using a projector and welding the outer hull as it’s easier than pasting the BP in and hollowing it out), is it a good idea? Will the next video be the battleship/dreadnought warship guide?
They probably have a lot of practice and eventually just get used to the flow and get very efficient and eventually just learn what does and doesn’t go well where.
I think my biggest problem with building awesome looking ships. Is seeing one double door airlock and thinking "well that's 200 PCU gone" and wanting to rip my own hair out before adding any other doors
This is exactly how I design my ships but I lose inspiration halfway through when making large grid ships, I suppose I just prefer the larger amount of detail and such in small grid large ships

I foresee this being extremely gimped for power generation, those atmospheric thrusters are gonna be almost useless, combined max power draw of like 34MW, max generator output of 10MW...

With this ship I’d personally put a heavy armour beam attaching the aft engine pods to the main hull of the ship.
Kinda hoping they do one for every type and variant of ship like a cruiser and heavy cruiser
