Can someone clarify something for me; was Ilias not even an outright halfback? When they chose him at halfback over Reynolds I assumed he was a rising superstar halfback. But recently I've heard he was 5/8 to Hawkins. So, we've been judging Ilias as a halfback, when that wasn't even quite his regular position?
Blake Taaffe was meant to succeed Reynolds, not Illias, Bennett was grooming him for the role. JD came in and that plan was thrown out the window.
Ilias isn't much good in either role much like Cooper Johns and Kyle Flanagan. They don't have what it takes. Johns has accepted this and retired.
Letting Reynolds and Bennett walk out the door was the start of Souths problems. Both Renno and the Supercoach are killing it up north. And JD ain't much of a coach, can't get the best out of all the egos like Latrell, Cody etc

Exactly right Reynolds release was pivotal. He never let us down. Was an outstanding player and man. Anyone remember our comeback against the Roosters with 3 tries in 5 minutes in 2013? He brought nothing but pride to the club. Every interview he was professional. A leader. Latrell got himself suspended for the GF we could have arguably won with him in the team. Last year suspended again costing us a top 8 spot. So many negative incidents. No to Reynolds but yes to Latrell? Latrell has a signature clothing line. Cameron Murray doesn't. What qualities as a club do we stand for? In business it's been proven that if you get a D grade performer and think dropping him in with the A team will lift his standards you're wrong. It's been shown to poison the A team. Our club lost a lot of integrity when we let Adam go.
When a club boots a player like Adam Reynolds after 231 games (including scoring 14 points in a Grand Final win) the players that are left look around and wonder what
a bloke has to do to get a bit of respect. He was a Souths Junior and was in form when they punted him, having taken them to the '21 Grand Final.

Burgess knew that once wayne was gone JD would not be able to handle the likes of Latrell and Walker thinking they are above it all, not putting in the work. That and the lack of forwards is a problem that's why the injuries are hurting so much now without Murray likely headed for spoon
Halves who have come over from England to play in Australia who have actually won Premierships in the NSWRL/ARL/SL/NRL are hard to find. Davey Bolton (Balmain halfback, 1969), Gary Stephens (Manly halfback, 1976) and Gareth Widdop (Storm 5/8, 2012) are the only ones that come to mind. Others like Tommy Bishop (Cronulla 1973) and Ellery Hanley (Balmain 1988) made Grand Finals, but never won one.
It was all over as soon as we signed Latrell and then the final nail in the coffin was extending Latrell and letting Reynolds go 🤦🏼♂️ Russell needs to come in and clean out from the top down and new coach should be getting rid of walker, latrell and koloamatangi asap

They were actually grooming Blake Taaffe to succeed Reynolds as the half back. Then Bennett leaves and Illias fills the role instead. Now look, Taaffe is the regular fullback at the doggies and the bunnies let Illias go, just a chain of stupid decisions as far as recruitment goes.
JD is a good coach but his man management still needs work, he’s partially responsible for recruitment and retention, even when Bennett was there. He should have had the foresight to see that they couldn’t let Reynolds go until he’d mentored the next half towards being a regular starter, instead he allowed the board to throw a green horn in the deep end. We really need a head of football like we had in Shane Richardson overlooking recruitment again, the current board aren’t going to be any help to whomever the coach is from here on.

Souths are probably worse with their “full compliment of players” anyway. If latrell is on the field and not wanting to participate they’re better off when he’s not there. When he’s on form and actually wanting to play they’re a decent side but realistically even then he’s a liability in defence and they have to shuffle around the back line to accomodate his lack of fitness.

Every coaches try there best but the problem is on the players, why because coach is not in the field with the player he just give instructions the players make decisions how to run the play in the field. So my opinion is to look for form player to play.

Everyone knows why souths are where they are. The coach isn't doing to well, but neither are his protected players who can't be touched. But no one is allowed to say it, souths deserve to be where they are for allowing this, I hope this year is the first of a few wooden spoons, mind, with JD gone. it will probably be the ball boys fault next.
It was obvious very early, even when we were winning that Demetriou was not up to the job. He relied on his other coaches. This should be the final straw for him. He told everyone how Illias was the new big thing when he let Reynolds go; now he is letting Illias go. What an absolute clown taking our club back to the bad old days. Get rid for gods sake. Hate to think what the score will be against the Panthers 😡
So he's gone. I think, judging by some of the movements at the club, it's clear chopping and changing players and coaches won't fix it. The big decisions are made further up the chain. I don't think it was the Coach that pushed guys like Burgess or Reynolds out. It's not like they can say they don't have the resources or the support.

First off I am a Storm follower. Look at what the top clubs do. They develop good player, and make them even better. Nick O Hine, bench warmer. Xaviour Coates, bench warmer, Jose ado car bench warmer, Big Nelson I don't know what to say here, awesome Rayn Papenhausen, Harry Grant, On lone to tigers the fans loved him why... because time was taken to educate them to be better. Coaches are not to blame per sa but the plater of the bottom 8 are. Hard truth you are only playing for the money you get each year. Not for the team but the check. Look at the tigers under Maguire most pathetic team, you had to blink three time to see if anyone moved. But Maguire was to blame, really. Now look at Panthers you see the same thing planing and development..

I think a lot of the souths criticism is harsh, they are yet to play a game where even just 80% of there team is full strength and they have only played one game against a non top 8 side (warriors) who just last year were premiership contenders so they havent had an easy game yet and versing teams like they have without anywhere near a full side. there is probably 2-3 teams in the whole comp who would have not been last in their position. i think jason demetriou just needs to drill some discipline into their defence and signing a 22 year old halfback isnt the right play. They need someone like a felise kaufusi to make oppositions scared when they have to run the ball. at the moment tom burgess is the only player on the team who seems to strike any fear into oppositions.

I get the impression the guy second to the right is a snake in the grass that has driven this story from the beginning. Rabbitohs club structure, organisation, and planning is at fault, not Demetrio, he is the patsie to usher in a lesser rival that will likely have early success due to upcoming games against weaker teams. They are fooling themselves if Bennet comes back and if he dies whether they’ll have the cowboys to pull off a rodeo. This is a prime example of nobends making shortsighted and glory grabbing decisions. The club has no clear thinking leadership and when Burgess left, the heart and soul left too.
