Was she the last true Verdi soprano? A girlish timbre with a "blonde" vocal color, completely even and controlled throughout her dramatic range even at piano...how many voices have there been like this? Not many.
I was at The university of Illinois when she was there. She could produce so much column literally the building and your body would shake. The biggest voice live is ever heard.
Her voice went because she sang dramatic roles without developed chest voice! That’s why she sang only half the written descending chromatic scale at the end-you can’t sing those low notes without chest! I guess only the Devil knows why this has come to be the norm. For 200 years it was standard training. Then about 50 years ago it stopped. That’s why there have been so few dramatic sopranos since then, and accounts for why so many voices fail early. Forcing the head voice to do duty in the low and middle range without chest participation is like trying to do pull ups with only the triceps .

Perfection. What a stunning voice Dunn had. Such a pity it went so quickly.
