Always include () to encompass the coefficient when doing this.
2x²-3x+5
after substitution should be,
(2(-3²))-(3*-3)+5
not
2(-3²)-3(-3)+5
This would made a MAJOR difference if the subtraction sign were a division sign instead.

You should check out the lesson on finding fractions of amounts. So you would multiply 1/2 by -5 which gives you -2.5

Find 24m-5mn+mn

Hi Faustina,
So you need to know that 24m is 24 x m and 5mn is 5 x m x n, also mn is m x n
So we replace the variables (letters) with their values and we get the following:
24 x (2) - 5 x (2) x (5) + (2) x (5)
Using the order the order of operations correctly should get you to the right answer. Note - I use brackets around the numbers as a safe way to substitute. Sometimes, you will have to substitute negative numbers, so getting into the good habit of putting brackets on your inputs is something I would highly advise.

Hi Bella, sorry I've just seen your comment now.
d = g - 2
If g is 10, what is d = ? We do d = (10) - 2 which gives us d = 8.
What about if they give us d first? say d = 5 and we have to find g?
5 = g - 2 in this case, g will have to be 7 since a number - 2 gives us 5, that number has to be 7.

the -3 is in brackets and squares. This means you do -3 x -3 first which gives us positive 9, since two negative numbers multiplied together result in a positive value. We then multiply this positive 9 with the 2 to get positive 18. I hope this helps.
