I have the same car, same colour, the windshell between seats make the diference with the turbulence in the cockpit.Beautiful car with one of the best bmw engines. The N52b30 the last inline six naturaly aspirated of BMW.
I have this car: 30i SDrive. It has the iDrive screen. Fitting a CIC / MMi box is a must (if you have the iDrive screen already, if not it's much more involved) and a cruise control (my car did not have one), as it will bring the car to modern standards. In terms of the engine, it pulls like a train. I really enjoy driving it, specially in Sport mode with traction control disabled. If I had some cash to spare I would definitely get a Z4 30 si Mk1: it's an itch I need to scratch someday...I tried one before I got my e89 and it was a blast.
I don't usually like grey cars, but this one looks really good ! I own one in "night blue" or something and have to agree on your conclusions : it's not really a sports car, it's too heavy and "too comfortable". It's perfect for a daily, but a 370z or Porsche 987.1 would be more sporty for about the same price.
Unsupportive seats you say? Well they are base seats in this video... For sporty seats there was a sport seat option with extendable base, adjustable side support and so on.
I got 8.5l in a combined cycle 30% highway 30% country roads 40% city, in a normal daily use this car consumes between 8-10l according to the owner as well, if you have the same engine 30i and you are getting 13l with coasting then maybe there is something wrong with the car
It’s okay for a convertible, the hardtop makes a difference compared to convertibles with a cloth roof, you can drive it long distance without a problem
It’s my brother in laws car I only reviewed it for my channel but he is very happy with it, had couple of minor issues repaired since he bought it but the car has over 200k km already so that is expected, the 30i is a great natural engine, revs nicely and the car sits on the road like it should, he pushes is it as well and drives reguraĺy over 200km/h with no problem, but as it is a bmw you have to find a good condition one otherwise the service cost will add up, if you are interested in anything more specific let me know and I can find out 🙂
Thank for the reply , is your brother in law had any roof issues. I am looking to buy 2009 30i with 52 miles on the clock . Car is in very good condition but I am worried about roof reliability
He says that there was nothing wrong with the roof so far and that they are built pretty solid, the only problem is when people live in the places where it rains a lot so the leaking issues are more often lets say in England, I have seen some videos about it and it mostly is only leaking issues so check for any signs of water damage in the trunk, look under the carpets, and of course try the roof opening couple of times for any squeaks 🙂

I agree the color works, looks great 👌🏼
silver really shows off the shape of the E89,the darker colours don't do it justice imo

Yes there was an option for sport seats but I only had this car for a review and these seats are really not suitable for a sports car

How is the noise inside the cabin on motorway speed with the roof up

Thanks buddy, it's what I was looking for . Are you happy with the car in general ?
