- Explore the creation of national parks and the importance of finding a balance between public use and ecological preservation.
--
In 1903, US President Theodore Roosevelt took a camping trip in California’s Yosemite Valley with conservationist John Muir. Roosevelt famously loved the outdoors, but Muir had invited him for more than just camping: Yosemite was in danger. It was part of a struggle to set aside land for both preservation and public use. Elyse Cox details the delicate balancing act of creating a national park.

look, a random quote that sounds sophisticated and smart. Let's like it
@aadhunik maddela yeah
Great quote.
Instead of purely criticizing what inspires other people, you can offer something better or more proactive. Just because you don't find these useful doesn't mean others shouldn't unless it's from a potentially troublesome source.
I love national parks. Just going there and explore nature is the best activity that one can do. I just hope we don't lose them.

Don't you think that money and JOBS are worth throwing the one thing that makes us great away??
me too! national parks are a part of my childhood, they've always been a part of my life. i live in washington state, seattle to be exact, and on a clear day, you can literally see mount rainier from my friend's house. sometimes when you're driving, you'll look out the window and see mount rainier. i've been to mount rainier so many times. plus, my family and i used to go to yellowstone once every two years. it was kind of a tradition that i loved.
@@artemis6703 i love doing road trips in the wilderness. Especially in national parks. Breathing that fresh air is amazing.
I love how the animations of the parks are based on actual places and they all have a label at the top left corner
National Parks not only protect specific biospheres but can also provide peace and stability in troubled areas worldwide. When we were making a video on how wildlife is drawn into local conflicts in Congo, we realised just how important NPs are for the region and local communities. This is particularly important when you take into account that 80% (!) of modern armed conflicts occur in biodiversity hotspots.
ua-cam.com/video/UQcYwt4zKoU/v-deo.html
What a coincidence! I have also learned about the harsh situation in Congo in class at school, and end up watching this video. Before I knew the purpose of the existence of National Park, I did not know why we have to protect animals, especially endangered animals.(I knew protecting those animals are ethically right, but did not know the intention to conserve them....)
because it not yours to own...
"We have not inherited the planet from our ancestors, but borrowed it from our children."
This quote was mentioned on a wall of a college.. while returning home everyday I used to pass by this wall a read it without fail.
This quote gave me an inspiration to be more eco friendly and be more kind to nature..
@Darth Ruin because if we use up all our resources, kill everything we see and pollute every possible place our children will not get to see anything which we saw.
We take from our future to use it in our present, and we should try that we keep it as we received it or improve it not destroy it and leave it for the next generation to deal with it

I love how the animators spent time to make sure that all the dates are correct, even on the newspaper.
Thanks for that. We do spend a lot of time with this kind of details.
(I directed that video with www.boniato.studio )

@@remicans2929 Yeah, I find it really annoying when people get the dates wrong. I was once watching an animation on the moon landing and in a newspaper it said it was in the year 2209 A.D lol.

The thought of what could have and might happen to our beautiful natural places makes me so sad there isn't a word that encompasses the feeling.
the American landscape is transcendentally beautiful. National Parks were this country's best idea.
If only the American side of Niagra Falls was preserved as much as Canadas

The animation is legit.....I'm impressed by the makers....keep it up Ted ed! By the way....great video!
Thanks :).
Watching these stunning animated landscapes on a big tv screen is such a blessing for the eyes!
Until this pandemic, we had never really explored our local national park; we had always just taken the 'quick and easy' version, a well-known park across the road to walk our dog. Only until COVID hit, did we decide that we should go to the Parklands, and oh, what a gem we discovered! Tracking to new parts every day, we were making a mental map, as an unknown place becomes a known one. The pandemic has brought horrible death, but at least we were able to scrounge some good out of it.
Amazing animations (as always) and engaging video! Keep creating TED, and stay safe everyone!

The US innovation far exceeds that of Canada on most aspects, and most of the time the US has come up with its own inventions while Canada has copied pretty much everything from Britain. So, it actually is surprising

We must preserve these lands first and always, it’s our responsibility to ensure their protection and well-being. People from all over the world come to the parks to enjoy and see the unique ecosystems and landscapes that make up the USA. There should be no drilling or cutting anything for profit, only to help maintain the area. Nature shouldn’t pay the price for the greed of others.

Awesome. We also must manage the ecosystems by taking out invasive species too. I’m currently working on my part of my land by taking out a huge chunk of forest that is now 90-95% invasive buck thorn shrubs while also opening the beautiful swamp for us to see with our backhoe. It’s really fun and also helping the forest and giving us a nice view of the swamp that was once hidden by those hideous things.
Beautiful animation!!
I am 14. I always wish to go and roam in a forest / grassland /mountains / beaches instead of roaming to exotic places. I love Nature.
