It's sad that Chris Robinson considered these songs "road songs" aka songs that they don't record on proper albums but play live. How stupid. The songs your fans enjoy the most in a live setting or on record should be played live AND put on record, both. Imagine Amorica coming out with Exit, Bewildered, Title Song, Tied Up & Swallowed, Girl From a Pawnshop, Feathers, Song of the Flesh....my lord that record would've been an unquestioned masterpiece for all time and eternity. The reason AMORICA wasn't? It sounds dated listening to it. It sounds like a perfect sounding 90s vibe record of eclectic sounds. Should've been recorded with Brendan like the 1993 songs were and should've been done live basically.
Like Steve said, one of the greatest missed opportunities was not releasing the songs from Kingsway (except for the limited release of Thorn's Progress) and *especially* this song, it is so amazing.
some of the best Crowes' songs never saw the light of day as far as public release, album release, radio play, etc. Most of my knowledge came from the extraordinary fan base that attacked the internet and made 2 great forums where fans shared the live music and deep unheard cuts that made me the Crowes fan I am. This is one of those songs. You can add this song to this list of unknown greats, "Words You Throw Away."
Or just look for the entire live at Ronnie Scott’s, an acoustic album from the early days that was called Darlings of the Underground Press when I bought the bootleg around 1998
@@flyingburritobro68 Umm, no. Horrendous, as have all their albums since Band in 1997. It is what it is. The Brothers can't connect as songwriters anymore and haven't been able to over a full album for decades. To compare Shitness Bastards to Amorica is ludicrous. There is nothing like those songs on their new album. Nothing. They're also down their 2 best musicians, both of whom completely changed what they could do musically after their debut album. Three Snakes and Band blow away their new album.
@@genehoke Wow I just found the live version of this in my library from Wiser For The Time live (I think) album, judging by the crowd noise at the end. I couldn't find the compilation you mention for what seems to be the studio track. Do you have a link? Or any other ideas about where to get a studio version? What a killer tune, can't believe I hadn't found it until now.
@@Otimofication The version I put up here is the only studio version I'm aware of. One thing about the Crowes is that they have a LOT of unreleased tracks that are just great. I recommend checking out the 2 disc set LOST CROWES. This isn't on there, but a lot of other great tracks are. Maybe someday they'll dig this one out of the vault and do a properly mixed release.
@@genehoke I have Lost Crowes, I believe. Can you link the compilation you found this on? My Google-fu appears to be weak, as I've been looking with little success. The studio track you posted has more "oomph"
Not a B Side. Should have been on Tall or Amorica, though along with The Fear Years and Bewildered. Title Song, Feathers and all the other glorious and unmatched songs they had that time. No one could touch them.
Glad I read Steve Gorman's book "Hard To Handle". Lots of great songs like this one listed I've never heard before until now. Cheers!
Great read! 👍
One of the best rock-bios I've ever read.
I concur I'm currently reading it and thoroughly enjoying it

Always a treat to have seen this played live. Sure do miss seeing these boys play live.

no doubt!!
I always favor Bewildered but I agree, these should’ve properly seen the light of day. There may be hope if Chris/Rich open the vaults.
Got to see the Magpie Salute play this in Atlanta on Friday and it was outstanding
they did Title Song when i saw them here in Madison Wi.
I was as at the Atlanta show as well...brilliant as always. Marc and Rich playing together is always magic
A hidden gem.
Such a gem

That morphed into Remedy which is why that one went away, or at least was released as a B-Side.
Cant stop listening to this...its almost like they recorded this knowing how much I like this type of sound...
That riff! Holy shit.
Does anyone else have "Darling Of The Underground Press" ? Another great rare tune from the Crowes.
I believe that's the b-side from the Remedy single from The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion.

Always surprised me this never made it to a record of theirs.
agreed
So was Steve Gorman.
Just made the gate in SLC bound for PHL. Slim margin. So much bullshit. I needed this one to get the aggression out. Steve dropping the hammer!
Agreed indeed my friends! To me...although the studio version lacks a little treatment the live versions were always a blazing haze of stellar groove!
Recorded in New Orleans at Daniel Lanois' studio in 1993 during a day off on the High as the Moon tour.
I was lucky enough to see this at my 1st Crowes show [1992 Roanoke]. I prefer the live versions I've heard, but this studio version is aiiite.
don't think the "new" Crowes are going to come up with anything like this anytime soon...
Happiness Bastards is a solid album. Best since Amorica

Crowes original , aguardamos o retorno!
What album is this from?
Mike Mack This was never officially released on any album. I found it on a compilation called Taller Than All.

I am a huge fan of the Crowes with Gorman , Hawrsh, Marc F'in Ford & Jonny Colt. This hired gun bullshit band they rolled out in 2020 ain't it.
Good heavy rock. They were idiots weren’t they a lot of the time? Why do you hold this back and throw it away?
'The songs you throw away' :)
