I am not an electrician or an audio magician and I have never replaced a radio before this in my life! However, I hope that this can help some people find a starting place when building out their sprinter vans.
Best of luck to you all!

You guys are so awesome, I love how you two seem to work together. Your van is very beautiful.
IMHO soldering is totally optional - I've installed many radios over the years without soldering and without any issues - nice video, keep 'em coming
Agreed. After Michael and I had gotten a bit deeper into this it seemed like we could've just spliced the wires together. But it was a fun thing to try!
Another suuuuper easy way to connect the stereo to the wiring harness is to use butt connectors, they're basically just a tube that you slide the two matching wires into on either end and then crimp down with a pliers. I used them changing my car stereo and it's worked like a dream for 2 years and counting
I have been hooking up radios for over 20 years, just use the little blue wire nuts, and in a van set up like y'alls if you take the red and yellow wire coming from the radio and connect both of them to the yellow wire coming from the van you will not have to turn the key on to have power to the radio.(make sure to insulate the remaining red wire coming from the van, this wire becomes powered when you turn the ignition key on or to acc) only down side is you have to remember to turn the radio off if you are going to leave the van parked for extended periods of time. As to which if you are you should take the face plate off anyway to detour thieves from breaking in the van to steal your Kenwood! I do all my trucks this way.
Thanks for the tips! We're about to be back home and were going to do some more stuff on the van and fix the parts we broke. I'll remember that about the wires! That would be an awesome thing to have!
Excellent video... very real... you guys are a great team.
Pinch yourself when you have your bad moments... because what you have is rare.
That looked great.
hey guys. loving your videos. i am a fellow van lifer vlogging from scotland. really loving watching the van come together...it looks rad. keep up the great work.
safe travels. ✌🏻️
Wow, you live so close to the Bay Area, why didn't you just go to Fry's?
Installation of a new stereo is only $50 (free if the unit you buy is over $100).
C B we wanted to try installing it ourselves! We're on a big DIY kick right now.
I had my cd/radio replaced professionally. It worked for a little while, less than a yr. now it works on Bluetooth, the radio picks up stations infrequently. It gets really hot, it seems like the hot air blower makes it hot around the player. After it's been playing a cd for an hr it stops working. Does anyone know if there's a vent or tube that carries the heater air that might have become dislodged when the stereo was replaced? Also it is just sitting there loosely. I discovered that accidentally. I slide the whole thing out yesterday but can't get it back in again. Very tight space to get the wires out of the way
I want to convert a Van so bad!!
