Hi Pranav. A surgeon here. Neurosurgery dates back to Neolithic times in the form of Trepanation and making holes in the skull. Am not sure if Susruta did those surgeries but it did exist in ancient times. Will post more on your subreddit with citations
Question: wasn't that a form of lobotomy? I am really curious
@@nananou1687-No, trepanation isn't exactly lobotomy. The former is just a hole made in the skull. No brain matter was removed.
Also the access to lobotomy wasn't by making a hole in the skull. Atleast for the frontal lobe.
Not a surgeon, however, what we call neurosurgery today, requires a rudimentary, if not deep understanding of the nervous system.
Trepanation is like blood letting.
If trepanation is rudimentary neurosurgery, then blood letting is like a rudimentary blood bank. They let out the blood, but couldn't collect it in bags for transfusion to a recepient.
I doubt people drilling holes in people's heads for letting out evil spirits can be called primitive Neurosurgery.

I have a question here. Was Sushruta the only surgeon living then? If our claim that we were far advanced in medical science and other spheres of science, we must be having records of more men and women who had practiced these. Just one Sushruta or one Aryabatta or such rare geniuses in those times is not convincing enough that we were a very advanced society. They were the exceptions.
Its not 1 person,its a title

I have noticed the shame game in her comment section. Whenever someone mentions a loophole or possible glorification of her very biased claims, she pins that comment or hearts it. This causes many gullible people who just accept whatever is coming from her mouth to downright abuse that person or their comment. This "pin of shame" bullshit is the reason her content doesn't appeal me.
Exactly...I have noticed it too. She intentionally does it cuz she knows her blind followers are ready to pounce on anyone who criticises her claims.
Would love to add a few thoughts here.
Sushruta did actually give names of 101 blunt instruments and 20 types of sharp instruments. Gave different names, their uses and even mentioned what should be their precision like. Instruments used to incision are said to have thickness/ precision like that of single strand of hair.
Also, yes he did mention 14 types of bandaging, where to use what type of bandage.
Pre-op, post op and operative procedure also is named as Trividha karmas. Meaning three types of procedures.
The segment about bringing intestines together, I'm sure she's trying to explain the suturing in case of intestinal perforation lol. That is called Chhidrodara. They used to actually make ants bite over the area that needs suture and cut off bodies, leaving head behind. I don't know how can someone suture intestines when there is literal blockage there. 😂 Sounds like really bad script writing on her part.
Urinary surgery, I'm sure she's pointing towards kidney stones. Yep, there's mention of surgery for renal stones in Sushrut samhita.
I'm not sure about number of surgeries as 300 were invented, but yeah, there's many types mentioned, as Ear and nose reconstruction etc.
That part about usage of urine, faeces of animal and birds, their flesh and even their bile is also seen in all three major textbooks like Charaka samhita, sushrut samhita and Ashtanga Hrudaya and that is really questionable.
Sushruta samhita is definitely one of the most systematic books written on surgery and medicine at that time, but the mindset that we can apply all that without proper research and being proud of something done in past is quite pathetic of us Indians. Hope we move on and actually respect their efforts yet adopt a mindset of rationality and discard what is not useful.

She said Alexander may never defeated porus as Taxila was near the battlefield, As they didn't mention Alexander the great, but you know that we know many things about Taxila from Greek sources also from the same time of Alexander the great, greek scholars mention Takahashila and Maurya Empire, So in that case she was cherry picking, they can't digest the fact that Alexander somehow managed to defeat Porus 😀 .
It's Victor Hansen and diodorus that describes he broke the peace treaty with asvaka tribes
@@itsoblivion8124 so what happened actually, did he cheated them ??
@@itsoblivion8124 ohh ok i checked again , Diodorus himself accused Asvaka tribe for revolt, as the peace treaty was broken by the tribe authority,
So it's means that Alexander not betrayed them but the tribe revolt against him after the Peace treaty 👍
★ Also some historians says - that The Asvaka put up significant resistance against Alexander's forces, but eventually had to surrender after , suffering losses There is no mention in the historical accounts of a peace treaty being established and then violated by either side , and Alexander not betrayed them ,😀

Sushruta's medical prowess is exhibited through his writings on rhinoplasty, involving nasal reconstructions using skin from the patient's forehead or cheek, often for criminals punished with amputations. Based on reports in the October 1794 edition of The Gentleman's Magazine, published in London, Indians maintained Sushruta's surgical practices until the late 18th century.
Why the knowledge hasn’t been shared to future generations adequately
On a humorous note, the British educated us, yet she still need English to educate us. It’s spot on from Pranav that we Indians live with an inferiority complex. To prove our supremacy, we often say we were great in the past. It’s important to understand that civilization and modernization go hand in hand. What is modern today may not be cutting-edge tomorrow. The same applies to Sushruta. He was a great physician, but his methods can’t be applied today, and what is applicable today may not be well implemented in the future. This doesn’t mean we should discredit the pioneers. Instead, we should accept that they laid the foundation for science to progress and reach this level. However, some people think that previous times were better than today. To them, I say in their own words, “The Ganga never flows backward, my friend!

The method that sushuruta has used to remove cataract is couching which is not very effective method in modern times for cataract surgery
They used to write on tree barks those days. These drawings are not from that period.
5:52 this diagram was drawn by Leonardo in 1507😂
The ant method is somewhat legit. She mistakenly said claws instead of pincers. Google ant stitches.
Sushruta didn't write Sushruta Samhita. Sushruta Samhita was written by Brahmins to appropriate Sushruta as a Brahmin. Sushruta was born in a "Kumhar" family. But at all his pictures and statue, he is shown as a rishi with long beard and long hair on head as high buns. This is same thing as saying that a teacher with surname Ambedkar gave his surname to Babasaheb. As a Marathi Brahmin, I can tell there is no Brahmin caste or subcaste who had Ambedkar surname before or after Babasaheb. That's the first thing.
The second thing is the language in which Sushruta Samhita was written in the language Sanskrit. Sanskrit cannot be written in any other script than Devanagari, and the Devanagari script come into existence in late 1100 AD. It means Sanskrit came into existence after 1100 AD., most probably around 1200 AD. If this had not been the case, then the Government of India had not officially submitted Rigveda manuscript dating 1464 AD as the oldest Sanskrit manuscript to UNESCO world archive. Even though this evidence is available, look at the articles and documents on the internet, they all claim Sushruta Samhita was written between 700 and 800 AD.
The third thing is the claim of Sanskrit language been passed on generation to generation as an oral tradition. When whole world was writting, Mesopotamians, Greeks, Romans and even Indians were writting in Pali Prakrit and other Prakrits. But we Brahmins sticked to an oral tradition! Do you see how strange this sounds? This means there was no Sanskrit in ancient India (claimed as vedic period). It came into existence on after Devenagari script came into existence which is around 1100 AD, and that's the reason oldest Sanskrit manuscript dates back only to 1464 AD and not thousands of years as claimed by we Brahmins. On top of that, there is no archaeological evidence of existence of Sanskrit in ancient India. But there are archaeological evidences of Pali Prakrit and other Prakrit languages like Tamil which even dates back to 300 - 500 AD.
I can go on and on. But I doubt anybody is going to read this far.
So, if we at least know this much before watching Keerthi's videos, we can tell her videos are far from the truth. It's all just gossip. I am being polite here.
It's easier make adjustment when we make oral traditions and claim we brahmins did that , and yes we tamils exist even before your sanskrit wrote s in the name , but you still claim that sanskrit is still superior and blah blah.
@@sakatimepass1957 Can you please point out in my comment where I have claimed Sanskrit is superior to Tamil or any other language?
@@niteshapteSir, thanks for d details. Could u throw light on inscriptions in Sanskrit language in d ancient times. Thanks 🙏

Pythagoras theorem was derived by baudhayana in 800bc and he didn't read Pythagoras theorem lol
@@anabhidnya26but what about Egyptian who used Pythagoras theorem way Pythagoras was born
@@shashikantoraon1719 nothing, neither baudhayana knew Egyptians nor Egyptians knew about Pythagoras or baudhayana lol.
@@shashikantoraon1719 the owner of this channel selectively makes such videos and has very little to do with science or know how. For example the heliocentric nature of the universe is explained in atharva veda, Nicolas Copernicus and galileo were persecuted and punished in the 16th century for stating the obvious. I wonder whether Dr. Pranav radhakrishnan will make videos on flat earth believers lol.

1) We all know that our ancients have shown great intelligence in many areas without having modern equipment which we have nowadays because of science and technology, nobody denies that.
2) But the way this woman is presenting here, clearly shows an agenda to disqualify science and technology. Editing is so fast, kind of annoying and it doesn't help to listen and understand, except to grab for listeners.
3) Someone said earlier, in other country it is the duty of presenter to collect facts and evidence before audience. But in India, it is just opposite. It is the audience/listener who needs to go for evidences, not presenter!
Yup..The fast moving images n her way of talking is one of the reasons her videos don't appeal me. Also she intentionally pins any critic comment in her video so that her followers can easily pounce on them.
Does anyone know if Keerthi speak German or French apart from English ? Her R's are pronounced in a gutteral tone.
Instead of casting your own shadow, use the light in your hand to illuminate the world around you.
5:44 The human anatomy pics she showed in her video was done by Leonardo Da Vinci.
May be you can help with the apt pics
How come sushrut a perform holes in skulls where hindu bodies were burnt after death ?
Accidental or unnatural deaths
We have archaeological evidence from Europe for several surgical tools used predominantly by Roman physicians. there is almost no such old material evidence from India. I am not saying Indians were not doing anything with regards to surgery those days; but her claim that other culture had no clue about surgery is just plain ignorance.
the drawings we often see as Sushruta's instruments are drawn from imaginations by the guy interpreting the saṃskṛta text. that is why if you look at illustrations of tools in Ayurvedic textbooks from different era, you will see same instrument having different shapes. it is no standardised. in one Ayurvedic text from 1950s they also included mercury thermometer as one of the Ayurvedic tools.
That's to show her viewers that, Indian culture was better than other cultures. And we taught the world how to live.
Forced appropriation at best..

What will she get after she makes people realise that hinduism/indianism is superior?
In fact it is harmful since people will feel less important to innovate more

so what she used background of modern images of tools and human anatomy, she also i time used image of capsule medicine, thank u, u didnt said that she is implying there were capsules in ancient times
When I studied B.Pharm in 70s Susrutha was head of Indian medicine
Rhinoplasty was there before shushrut i.e. at the time of mesopotamian and egyptians
It is not discovered by him
Source- Treatments for the plastic repair of a broken nose are first mentioned in the Edwin Smith Papyrus,[4] a transcription of text dated to the Old Kingdom from 3000 to 2500 BCE.[5]
The Ebers Papyrus (c. 1550 BC), an Ancient Egyptian medical papyrus, describes rhinoplasty as the plastic surgical operation for reconstructing a nose destroyed by rhinectomy. Such a mutilation was inflicted as a criminal, religious, political, and military punishment in that time and culture.[6]
Might be. But Shushruta did a better version of it. Which is why it was picked up by the British, western world and they made it famous and perfected it. Let's give credit to Shushruta here for that
@@zz2793 no need.. He didn't do it better.. We have no evidence of if it was better... The Britis came later.. Maybe some unknown folk did some modifications... Who knows?...
Maybe it was not Sushruta but some other later hundred years later who did the modification and the book was updated...
