- I'm Every Day Doug and I play puzzle games every day!
Connections is an engaging word game from the New York Times. Presented with 16 words, you are challenged to find "connections" among four groups of four words each.
If you've read this far, perhaps I can press my luck and let you know about some of the other places you can find me!

This one stopped me in my tracks too. After the first easy yellow, I was stuck. However when I was listening to your reasoning on SKI things I realized mogul was part of that because it is a mound of snow found on advanced trails. The others only made sense after the reveal.
Gingko is a tree. Somewhere in the back of my mind, I knew that Tycoon is a word that came from the Japanese and knew the 3 were also.
A mogul is where there are a bunch of bumps on a ski slope. Learned that from watching the Winter Olympics.
I knew Typhoon was a Japanese word, but not Tycoon.
@@GuanoLad It's from the Japanese work "Taikun" meaning great lord.
@@GuanoLad typhoon was why I went with tycoon instead of anything else for the fourth Japanese word. Don't know if they are related. Knew mogul from Olympic skiing to get green, or I might have tried mogul.
@@KenTrosper that makes sense. I figure it had to be an older word because the current word for the Emperor of Japan is Tenno (long o at the end by the way).
Got perfect score by not looking for categories and guessing
Oh well, tomorrow is another day. In case you were wondering, here is the origin of the Japanese words (a category I spotted immediately):
Emoji : 絵文字 : Means picture-character. That i Knew.
Karaoke : カラオケ : Means empty-orchestra. That I knew.
Ginkgo: ギンコ. Name of a tree of course.
Tycoon : 大君 : Translates as emperor. But that must be an older word, since the word currently used for the Emperor of Japan is 天皇 (Tennō).
I almost put mogul in with Japanese words, but then I saw the other ski terms and avoided a mistake. I saw triangle pretty quickly. Four points and no misses: 💛, 💜, 💚, 💙.
I had no misses, but could not name the blue/purple categories. I was able to get the green category right away because I skied in my younger years. The yellow category was easy for me because I am a retired teacher. I was fine getting two points because I was successful in Connections.
Congrats. 🎉🎈
Thank you.
Well done on your perfect solve. I also got the perfect solve but in my case I saw light blue right away, having been to Japan 7 times. Yellow was super obvious after that. I was stuck on green and purple for a while because I've only downhill skied once in my life , in Switzerland no less. As soon as I said "Bicycle" to myself, purple came into focus and then the green category was obvious, having remembered Mogul is a kind of ski slope.
Thank you, Tigerboy. You are quite the traveler. Check out Sam Woods if you can. She is a COOL spokesperson and needs more viewers. I know that Oranje OBVIOUSLY got a REVERSE RAINBOW. He and Art are like "two peas in a pod." Chris Remo also continues to be a BRAIN with these games. I am fine at this point just being in sites with Sam, Doug, and Kenny. I am so glad that we are back to the cold normal weather. Oranje and Andrea are probably used to FRIGID weather. 😎
Yellow was easy. Then I got green quickly because although I don't ski, I like to watch the Olympics, so I was familiar with the term mogul. Then I guessed words derived from Japanese, with a lucky guess that tycoon went in that category just because nothing else seemed to fit. This left me with purple with no errors, but I couldn't come up with TRI --- and I even said tricycle as I was trying to sound it out!! So I only get 3 points.
Yellow, blue, green, purple. I thought mogul might be Asian in origin but that was wrong. I looked it up and it comes from German. And the dictionary also said it is a bump on a ski slope. Which helped with green, an accidental cheat on my part. So just one error and I did guess purple, for a change.
I ended up solving the puzzle by pure luck, but could only take 2 out of 4. Was way off on the categories for blue and purple.
I got the School and the Japanese ones, but did not see the Snow or Tri- at all. A 50% fail for me too.
Mogul was such a weird spot for ski
4/4 No mistakes GYPB Took me forever on the blue connection. I finally thought of 'Karaoke' being Japanese. I had no clue that 'tycoon' would fit, so I would not have solved this category any time before last. Purple took a while because I was trying UNI/BI/TRI/QUAD - one prefix per word. Finally saw that TRI worked on all four. Green also slowed me down. I, like Doug, first thought 'Ski_____'. A nice puzzle today, difficult (for me), but not impossible.
We tied.
i got the ski category by total blind accident. otherwise iwould have failed big-time. i'm a bit surprised you didn't get purple.
Flawless in order. I named blue right, but didn't really know Tycoon was from Japanese, it just seemed the most likely of the 5 left. I should have gotten purple, but always give up early on purple when it's last

Just the Y for me too.
Y,G,B,P no misses, all categories. I felt Emoji, ginkgo, karaoke, tycoon went together but it took me a while to verbalize why (from japanese). I tried bi- and uni-cycle then almost moved on before trying tri-. Knew mogul from the Olympics.
Hey Doug, can you adjust your screen down a bit? We can’t see the “one away” at the top.
Derived from Japanese is not a good category. I did solve with no mistakes but didn't know that category
