I had the honor of being the CEO of a veterans nursing facility. At the time I had a few WW2 veterans. One was a Tuskee airman. What great guys. Their stories were unbelievable.
When ahh was a child ahh was friends with w.w.2. veteran - Thomas Mc Niese. Most of those old boys are, they had different vaccines back then, stuff to make them human strength!!!! Not these new vaccines designed to deteriorate our minds.
Prefect example of how once enemies can be civil with one another just by sitting down and talking. God bless the WW2 soldiers and their families on all sides. When the dust settles we are all one big family in this together.
My Uncle Tony was a Navy Seabee and saw combat in North Africa, Sicily, and Salerno. He was subsequently transferred to the Pacific theatre where he got to see Iwo Jima. My Uncle Chester was a Marine at Iwo Jima. The brothers never knew they were together on Iwo, until after the battle when they met in Honolulu.
Josh, these stories and your work is very much appreciated and incredible. Hearing these hero’s speak and share their experiences is mesmerizing. These were humble hard working Americans who gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country. God bless Charles Samas and his service.
This is one of the most if not probably the most important youtube channel in the world. It is vital for our society to not forget our history and the people who sacrificed their lives and their youth for us to be free !!!
I absolutely love hearing the stories of WWII since I was a young man and my grandfather would tell me his. The sad thing is theres not many of theses guys left. Maybe you should start doing the stories of the Korean War they also will soon be gone.
God bless this man. It takes quite the man to realize we aren't enemies, just brothers pushed into an awful conflict by global powers that couldn't put aside their differences so they sent young men to fight and die for them.
It’s a shame these videos don’t have more views. Thank you for everything you are doing, I wish I could talk to each person you interview. It’s truly something special
Probably one of my favorite interviews. Hearing how coherent he still is about the war and almost at peace is talking about his service and the time he served is pretty remarkable. I am sure there's stuff all these vets will take to their grave on what they saw in true detail and likely have PTSD thinking on it and will never talk to a soul about but to hear the general ideas what the common veteran went through in one of thousands in a battle is quite revealing as always.
Truly the greatest generation. I so wish you videos were mandatory for child in school now a days. These men are real hero's not some singer or athlete.
Absolutely amazing imagining the pilot and the young kid that kicked off that ship and survived to fight another day, all those years later, standing face to face and sharing stories. Makes me think about life differently.
My true heroes…The veterans who fought so we could live a happy life. I feel sorry for the ones who don’t realize it and waste their days away being depressed in a wonderful world these veterans made for us.
My barber (passed on now in 2011) was a WW2 Navy Vet and was active in the ETO and The Pacific. Was a Navy Medic/Corpsman. He was in England for the D-Day invasion and took care of the wounded (Allied and Axis both). He said the flamethrowers were horrible. After D-Day he went back to the states where he was then shipped to the Pacific. He was on a hospital ship off the coast of Iwo Jima during that campaign. He was also on a hospital ship off the coast of Okinawa during that campaign. It was during the Okinawa campaign his hospital ship dodged a torpedo from a submarine (they think it was a midget sub). I should also mention that he saw the first US flag go up on Mt Suribachi Iwo Jima. He was out on the upper deck of his hospital ship having a cigarette break and was watching the battle through a pair of binoculars and saw the first US flag being raised on Suribachi. Rest easy Fred. Fair winds and following seas.
Each story is vital for people to hear. I tell my students they are the last generation that will hear directly from WWII vets and survivors. I am very dedicated to telling the history of WWII as well and have several videos on the war, and the Holocaust
Amazing man and I applaud him for not having any hard feelings towards the German pilot. I'm sure he really didn't know exactly what was happening in concentration camps. War is a horrible thing and I pray for peace everyday. I can't help but cry when I see all these stories and the stories of those poor people in the concentration camps. I just don't understand how a human being can do something so horrible to others. I don't think I will ever understand it. God bless them all...
The only American Soldier I know who came to save my country and our ancestors is General McArthur . Thank for this Memoirs of WW2. Another story from a great soldier and a hero. The Philippines wouldn't survive without the veterans courage and bravery. And for those soldiers, young boys, brothers, sons, husband's, and boyfriend's who didn't made it, there is always a Filipino from the generation of 20th century who will remember and will never forget your heroism. Thank you American, Filipino, British, and Australian veterans who saved my nation. May the peace you'll fought for prevail forever.
I wish more people cared to capture these stories of these true heroes. Why isn't this governmental subsidised, history is extremely important. God bless these heroes!
I had a friend by the name of Raymond DuBose. He was in the Army, (Infantry). After fighting the Japanese, elements of his unit were transferred to the European theatre, just in time for the Battle of the Bulge, where he and others were captured and spent 6 months in a German POW camp. He showed me the Japanese souvenirs which he had sent to his Mother and Father from the Pacific. He told me what he could talk about. This was in 1981. Raymond has since passed away. He was a good, honest man who was the epitome of good and honorable. A real gentleman. He was my friend, as well as I was his friend. Faron. Raymond’s last name may have been spelled, DuBouise. I just can’t remember.
This is one of the greatest youtube channel you could ever find in this generation, most of the new genz will not appreciate it and will not even make this an example, This are the people that made america free again ones more and gives me chills everytime whenever i think if i was in this great war, Keep it up! Support from me is always here,
From one veteran to another, Sir you are one hell of a man and a true hero. My dad fought in the Pacific and never talked about it. The only time he talked about his time was when I got home from Vietnam 1967/68/69 He told me out of all the island he hit Okinawa was the worst. May God be with you Sir. 14:36
This man has the clearest voice ive ever heard from an old man/veteran Rest in peice soilder. May your deeds never be forgotten and your blood live on. A true survivor, A true American, a True man. Let your soul be in peice with those you killed and those you fought with.
Wow what a story. Thank you so much for capturing these stories. Can I beg of you, please record Korean War veterans' stories as well. Please, please, please. The forgotten war needs so desperately to be remembered.
How he survived, is simply unbelievable! Imagine being the only survivor (if I heard him correctly) and then floating at sea, for 10 hours before being found. It’s a miracle he was even found out there, let alone surviving the bombing. I wonder how many people fought in Europe and the Pacific. I can’t imagine too many saw both campaigns.
What a fascinating experience! My grandfather was at Leyte, too, as a medic. Its stunning to know he saw things like this. The end of Mr. Samas' story is so incredible -- to sit down with a man he crossed paths with decades earlier -- truly amazing.
My Grandfather was 15 when the Hitler regime forced him to serve in the Volkssturm. Too bad he was already gone when I finally was old enough to grasp a glimpse of what that meant. Thank you guys for your effort and hard work, it is worth every second of material
Loves these real heroes stories. Thank you so much for capturing these stories before these men sadly pass away. The greatest generation will never be forgotten.
Great job my dad used to mention all those stories in the Navy an Kamikaze Flyers that's what took him out of the war.. God bless you guys for putting this together
I have so much respect for all those veterans, they really had a big big challenge to overcome and so much brave and patriotics young man, off course in the war you kill or be killed, as he said, he saw and lived some kind of scenes and emotions so fast so bad that will haunt you all your life, the loss of friends, kill other man, or kamikaze, or close combat fight where you fight and put a knife in the enemy body as you fight for your life and he too, as primordial beast killing each other and looking at him in the eyes as the horror of the moment evolve and a distorted face and a loud cry of the other man knowing life is leaving his body. He is so a hard man, there are no more people like them, they lived it, fought it and died in it. Survived was a benediction but the atrocities you were part inside it, are living it,just destroy you. Respect and thanks for what you all did. May god bless you , all your comrades, your family and hope that all of you after that lived a full life, knew the blessing to be alive.
I'm lost for words... other than, THANK YOU for your service 🙏.. this man is a hero and nothing less... to the makers of the video, THANK YOU for making this available for us to hear and see... God bless America 🇺🇸 and its veterans 🙏
A movie could be made from each one of these veterans. It's astonishing the amount of sacrifice, turmoil, life, death that they all lived through in a matter of a few years. Thank you again for bringing to light another amazing story about an amazing man!
Truly humbling. When I think about where we've come to today with young people and what men such as this endured and did time and time again, I feel that the future those men fought for has been flitted away.
Thank you for gathering these individuals stories from WWII. It's saving a important part of history from the perspective of veterans. Keep up the good work !!! 😶
Every day at work I stand for the Pledge of Allegiance with these men (and women) in mind for all they did for us and I am the only one doing the pledge. Half of my heart is broken that I see no one else caring, but the other half of my heart is so full of love and thanks for these heros and all that they and regular housewives at home did all through the War. Incredible story. Thank you!
This guy’s incredibly sharp it amazes me how vividly hes able to recap everything. Thank you for your service. Your sacrifices will never go forgotten as long as channels like this exist to remind us of what you guys went through and how truly lucky we are to follow in the footsteps of the greatest generation to have ever lived. Thank you 🇺🇸
Josh, thank you and your family so much for continuing to bring us these important stories from The Greatest Generation. Your work is important and moving. Outstanding work.
I would love to hear an interview from another countries soldiers, germans, japaneses, hungarians, romanians, dutchs.. would be very interesting to hear stories from different countries, your job is incredible 👍
Thank you for creating this content. These events and especially these men and women, need to be memorialized. Thank you to America’s heroes- you are the best of the best.

Amazing he survived so much combat in two theaters. Mr. Samas is quite alert and spry for someone approaching 100.
He beat WWII and winning in living a long life gotta love this man ,Iam 60 and already feel 80 ,
His memory and just all around cognition is amazing. Truly the greatest generation to ever live
Arguably the finest generation, in generations.
Most of those old boys are, they had different vaccines back then, stuff to make them human strength!!!! Not these new vaccines designed to deteriorate our minds.
He was born in Pennsylvania on August 31, 1924. His voice and clarity when he speaks sound like that of a much younger man.
Yeah absolutely,i agree with that..
Priceless memories. My dad was a veteran of WW2 in the Pacific and I think it's great what you're doing, trying to save these stories.
I had family in both areas. They're all gone now, and how I miss those men.
Much love and respect/admiration for your parents and past relatives for their bravery in battle 🇺🇸 🫡
