I’ll never forget it. When I was 14 years old, I had the privilege of flying out to Huntington Beach, CA for Vans triple crown contest and my buddy and I got to spend an evening at Huntington Park. I remember Brian Sumner showing up and destroying and hearing locals yell “Brian Sumner skates in his sleep!".
Outside of the park was Jim Greco and Ali Boulala dressed in their ripped leather while selling used skateboard decks to kids and drinking beer. I honestly didn’t think the night could have got better until we went back to our hotel room, went to the hot tub only to discover Ethan Fowler and John Cardiel hanging out. Fowler signed my Nervous Breakdown VHS tape that I still have to this day. Love this series and god damn, I love skateboarding.

Right off the bat I just wanna thank whoever documented & created this series. As someone/skater/punk who was 19-20 years old and coming of age during this period it's really cool to see/hear about the back stories. Get a real inside look and feel what was truly going on. With that being said, I'm incredibly stoked that certain individuals were able to come out the other side. Whether that means embracing sobriety, successful brands/companies under the Baker umbrella or internal peace within themselves that's led to healthy relationships/partnership, children so on and so forth. I guess what I'm getting at, as someone who's had his battles with addiction & self worth over the years. The whole situation/

Huntington park was a really incredible place during those times! So many what would become legends were there daily. I was definitely saddened when it got tore down. Great times, day or night, you could find some homies, meet up, go skate all day then finish your day back at HB park! So many memories! Still miss it! 😢

California kids are so privleged when it comes to watching amazing skating live. Reynolds,Templeton,Greco,Ellington,Boulala,Lenoce,Moul,Heyl,Sumner, and many many more great skaters are just poping up at your local skatepark ? When I visited LA and saw Guy Mariano on Venice beach filming a trick I almost fainted lol.

Haha I see ams and pros at my local all the time in AZ. Definitely nowhere near the amount of sightings you get in CA but it’s still sick to be able to see these guys skate in person.

was a teenager skating and living in HB at this time. lived off of Warner and beach pretty much. These guys all lived down the street a couple blocks. I had friends who lived in the same apt/condos as these guys. life was pretty good, no worries, and we were getting girl/chocolate/flip decks brand new for 20$

I've thoroughly enjoyed watching the whole "Tales From Warner Ave" series or whatever you wanna call it. But definitely one of my favorite stories/tales so far is the "Park Off" challenge between Reynolds & Templeton. It's just priceless to me, cause I had a similar situation. My crew back in the day had are own D.I.Y. park that we built on the foundation of a warehouse that completely burned to the ground. So of course any given day anyone could take the crown & then defend it with everything you got. But I was King for a couple days straight and I believe it was the 3rd or 4th day I was out on a date with my girlfriend at the time. My homie hit me up (this was 2000/2001 & I didn't have a cell phone but my gf did) on her phone and it was game on. Needless to say she was none to thrilled lol.

Grew up skating the Tiles in Liverpool with Brian before he left for the states. Now that was a gnarly spot. Great times though.

Who is this? I loved the tiles in Liverpool. Young Brian asked me how to do backside kickflips at the tiles. Maybe 93 ish. He then just lands it first try. Within a year we were trying them at the lime Street 11 stair. With the red rail and short run up. I think he had tricks in early birdhouse vid on the stairs. Great days. I've still got raw footage of quite a few of the Liverpool skaters of mid 90s to late 90s. Lines Brian did at pier head. Somewhere out there are possible hours of footage of 90s skaters on Liverpool scene. There was easy enough for a great vid. I've got a small amount, but not the best stuff. Al and fez had the tapes

@tomf4087 Holmsey and Fez. They still knocking about ? Used to skate St Anne's bank, the old cotton exchange and the echo building gap with them. Great times. H was a little lunatic trying backside rail slides on handrail at the law courts ! Good luck getting the old footage together

Me and Al filmed a lot from 94 onwards. I went to live down south for a few years but would come back to Liverpool from time to time. Moved back up in 02 but badly injured myself in 05. Haven't seen Holmes aka tattoo Al for years, or Fez. I would think Fez is drawing wildlife for wildlife magazines possibly in states, possibly staying with Rowley, as he is a big horn sheep hunt guide or something.

I just can't believe anyone who truly believes that Huntington was a good park.. It was trash. I used to come down from long Beach to hopefully be there on a day without hundred plus ppl, overflowing the place. Ah the late 90s. A time where a strip mall parking lot was the only place to skate besides the 3 skate parks in ALL of LA. Now there's a park on every other block. Lucky

yea HB park was always crazy, As a local teenager growing up there, i usually skated the even shittier murdy park which funny enough , was like right next to where most of these guys lived.. None of the pros went there tho. So usually the place wasn't too crazy. Probably would of gone there more had i lived closer to it, it was kind of a mish to get there on skateboard from that part of town.
