My first car in 1982 was a 1970 mk1 1600gt , it was 12 years old and on it's way to the scrapyard, I paid £20. for it. The engine had a blown piston, it cost me £50 to rebuild the engine and 50 quid for a respray in sunburst red. Loved that car 😍
The first car I bought was a facelift Mk1 1600XL as a 19 year old. It was a bit tatty and cost me a few hundred. Needed new sills plus a new camshaft and followers which isn’t uncommon on old Pinto engines. Separately the cam belt went on the way to work one day leaving me a bit stranded but there was no damage and I replaced it in my parents’ front drive. I also swapped the auto choke which used to get stuck shut for a manual one. Loved it to bits and drove it everywhere but eventually part ex it for a Lotus Europa but that’s another story.
Im impressed with the floor pans normally they get installed shite because of the rust . From a dirty steel boiii . Impressed on the restore 👊🏿

I absolutely love the Mk1s ,face lift or not. They were not the same after mk2s came out .
The Mk1 is a real classic shape. 👌 Mk2 are still classy though personally I'm not a fan of the bumpers and plastic 1/4s on the mk3.

2800 v6 was a fast motor .only problem was the head gaskets kept blowing out.
Big thing that let it down tuning-wise was those siamese exhaust ports, however they actually run great with a 38dgas carb.
