Northern India by Train - Chaos, Camels and a Tiger // A Silent Film

- If we had to use only one word to describe our time in India, it would have to be "intense"...
While traveling through northern India by train for two weeks, we were able to get a little glimpse of this massive country, and wanted to share our impressions in a very raw film, that mainly just observes & follows. A film, that simply shows our experiences, with minimal judgement.
India is a country of many facets, many sights, many smells... and even more people. These different sides of the country create a lot of contrasts, and throughout our time there, we often found it difficult to fully enjoy and immerse ourselves in the "highlights", when constantly confronted with the rougher sides of India.
Even after having now already seen a lot the past two years, we were still often surprised and, honestly, shocked by the poverty, chaos and pollution which was evident wherever we went. Nevertheless, it is also undeniable that there is a certain "magic" to India, even if we didn't always find it easy to see this while we were actually there.
We hope, by watching this film, that you experience a little bit of India, just like we did, and get a sense for how it is to travel there. While we didn't warm up to India as much as we had hoped, we still have to admit that we had some pretty memorable moments there, and are glad that we got to see it for ourselves, even if only in a very limited way.
By the way, if you're wondering why we were backpacking through India... after leaving Australia at the end of October 2023, we took a little break from cycling to explore Nepal & India for five weeks. But don't worry, we will soon be back on our bikes to tour Southeast Asia and beyond!

Great video. Felt sorry for the camel.
Wow guys
This is my Indian
Thanks for sharing this video
I really enjoyed your video especially cycling
An absolutely brilliant! The lack of dialogue added to the sensual atmosphere that is the chaos of India. Amazing video I am going to say Tobi? Very skilful
Thank you! 😊
I spent the first 28 years of my life in India and the next 20+ in the US. It’s not a country that can be viewed through the typical western mindset. It’s a land of contrasts, haves and have-nots, beauty and heaps of garbage, and a complete lack of the concept of personal space. It’s an assault on the senses. Definitely an experience! Hope you have good memories of the trip. Safe travels!
Very nicely summarized!
Yep, you can see in the vidéo all the garbage on the ground every where ! This is crazy, looks like a nice country but seems they don't care about having garbage every where.
Why arnt u guys doing a bike video like all the other videos u made, ur just walking around, get back on the bike and same for Thailand!!!!!!@louisaandtobi
Drove a bus from UK to Nepal many years ago. Got to spend a few months in India. Loved it.

These shots were awesome! Love how you were able to stitch together so an immersive story.
What video equipment are you using for this? The image stabilization is bang on, did you do it in post, is it built in to your equipment or both?
Awesome, visual travel log! I was there with you, so to speak…
Nice to see you again, beautifull video! The music makes my eyes fall down 😴😆 It's very sad to see how they treat the camels there....
Thank you! Yes, we also didn't enjoy seeing the camels being pulled around by their nose piercings, but we felt like we should still show it in the film so everyone can make up their own mind...
Man Alive! 😲 I am in total shock seeing you two use other modes of transport but really enjoyed the video Thank You 👍
It is important to learn ones own perspective but not judge Thats where the silent film was excellent choice It was beautifully done. Lousa is a true traveler with smiles and total interst on her face
Sagenhaft!!!!
Great impressions, perfect without words. Felt like I was transported back 38 years, when travelling India in the same way.
All the best for your further journey!
Wonderful. Travel broadens the the mind.
So good to see posting again
Very well-chosen musical 'score' to match what's on the screen!
Great format, thanks
Well that was different, so many people and rubbish everywhere. The poor camels carrying those decorations. Cobras too, didn't see them on the Munda Biddi eh. Tigers just walking along with the visitors.
Great film footage! Thanks.
The music just so good, emotional. 👍
Dear Louisa and Tobi! Good to see you again! This format without commentary is very new, but I understand that you simply let the images speak for themselves. What you saw is fascinating, and at the same time very sad for some reason. But most of all it is instructive. Compared to our European way of life. By the way, the video montage turned out great, and the music matches the sequences perfectly. I wish you many experiences and success in your further travels! I can't wait for your next reports! Regards, Viktor
Glad you enjoyed this new format! :)
Loved this video. Loved the
Music. What an amazing experience. I been in Mumbai on business so I know how different culture is that. Enjoy.
An excellent video.
WOW EXCELLENT VIDEO
Super video!👍👍👍
Good to see you guys in india ❤
India is so unique in culture compared to other part of this world, that I couldn't expect you made through this country...
What we see the people in the country and what we see those people who came from that country in Western look completly different...
It is so easy traveling without bikes, isn't it!
Yea, it is 😂
Thank you, that was lovely (in spite 0f the litter)
That was an amazing video tour. Are you planning to bike ride there?
Thank you! No, this time we won't bike there :)
Good night from ''YIPMA BARUYA'' You Tube channel.. PAPUA NEW GUINEA
All I can say is very interesting. The India I imagine from watching old movies like Indiana Jones and the India I see in videos like yours makes me wonder what has happened or if we were only given a sanitized version of it (no pun intended). I can understand that you don't want to comment and don't feel obligated here. I would like to ask why you chose not to bicycle India and Nepal or are you going to address that in another video? Thanks.
It certainly is very interesting, and even though this applies to many countries and regions we've traveled (what you hear in the media, etc. is different to reality), we felt like it was especially different in India. We feel that India just has huge contrasts between the "highlights" and the rest of the country. At times, we felt like we were in the "jungle book", for example, and the next were walking over a literal mountain of trash.
We decided not to take our bikes to Nepal & India as it was clear to us from the beginning that we would spend most of our time there either hiking (Nepal), or visiting urban areas, where it wouldn't have really been nice to cycle. In addition, we wanted to continue cycling through Southeast Asia, and it's currently not possible to travel by land from India to Thailand, for example.
😩the animals....and the trash is shocking....humans 😡....but I am looking forward to your tour of India.
Nice video, some places were very busy, why were you wearing mask only at the beginning?
At the time, the air pollution in Delhi was extremely bad, so we wore masks. In other regions it was better.
When I saw the dogs I remember the dog that that you left at Patagonia ferry terminal. Wonder the fellow is still waiting for you
Hi Louise and tobi welcome India pls visit North Gujarat sidhpur patan dist it's very good place with house like paris
Why do you delete critical comments?
We don't, YT filters them automatically if it contains inappropriate language, etc. You can read about it in their "terms of use" or similar.
Next time u need to cycle India not walk it and same with nepal!!!
The trash everywhere 😢 such a shame in a beautifull country like India
I'm not surprised as I also live in a third world country. Things are not much different here.
