So if Br prefers the most substituted carbons, how can we make primary alkyl bromides, like 1-bromobutane, for example? :q Could radical bromination do that somehow? Or do we need to put an -OH group at the end of the carbon chain first and then substitute it with bromine? But if the latter is the case, we still need some way to put the -OH group at the end of the chain (let's suppose we don't have the alcohol yet, just an alkane). Wouldn't it involve putting another leaving group there (i.e. the halogen) in the first place? How is the usual way of doing it?
