The comparison to Illustrator or Designer is not entirely fair. The one thing unique about Inkscape is that it is natively SVG at its core. You can even switch to code view and directly edit the SVG, add variables and hooks for events like clicks and mouseovers, and switch back to design mode non-destructively. For someone working primarily with web design, that distinction is critical and worth some slowness. It’s perfect when you’re creating advanced interactive UI elements which update SVG code reactively.
@@simeongprince can concur, it has been a long time since I used Windows but remember how brutal slow Inkscape was on it vs Ubuntu this was back Windows 7 vs Ubuntu 14/16 days. Haven't looked back Linux all the way even professional design; Inkscape is a workhorse and its fast on Linux. I just pray to the devgods they fixed symlink external image / export path issues with this new release.
Inkscape devs deserve all the praise. If they continue with these amazing features I might not need to upgrade to Affinity Designer 2 because I'll start using Inkscape full time. For now my workflow is used to Affinity Designer but in the future I might switch to Inkscape only as another FOSS toot I'm using for gamedev.
Well if you're doing GameDev, then Inkscape should be great for you. I use it for Graphic Design, and converting Sign Artwork to 3D in Blender for Making Sign Mockups. Also use it for Product Label designs, and mocking them up in Blender. Can't go wrong with Inkscape, even if you are producing work for print. There are workarounds for CMYK printing using other FOSS software.
Inkspace was my first vector art tool and were I learned l the basics before moving to Illustrator and to Affinity Designer now. It's great seeing hat it's still getting new things to this day
@@hipflipped Inkscape sucked hard for professional use back then. If serif was that good they would have bought canvas and not the other way around. Affinity Photo was falling behind Photoshop big time. I will certainly miss Designer but if you're collaborating in any way shape or form, good luck with that idml file export. Affinity has an inferior product, no copium around that.
Changing the axonometric grid angle from 30 degrees to something else does not result in a "much more isometric" grid, it results in a no longer isometric grid.
The color popup appearing behind the settings window is all you really need to know about inkscape tbh. No matter how cool the new features get, it’s never going to be good as a professional vector program until they fix all idiosyncrasies like that.
Nice, you also follow the Inkscape programs, one of the best, if not the most colorful, regardless of the open-source project, and I see no reason why every game developer does not use this program for creating sprites, but uses some programs out there, I don't know which ones, this is for you is a professional program for that, and of course, you want to export your image in an unprecedented number of formats, including .png, you can export, for example, just a simple circle from the whole page, and yes work on Linux, you must know program won crass, just like others, very rare, this is the Blender 2D and better if you believe me, thanks for reporting! Good job! Keep going!
idk man, until inkscape decides to implement GPU rendering I won't use it. It just feels sluggish compared to affinity designer or adobe illustrator. I used it back in 2013 on a shitty budget gaming rig and always thought it was just my PC until I upgraded to a new PC a few years back and realized it still feels the same on the new PC too. Every program I throw at it just feels good, except inkscape. It's the only "professional" graphics software I know that isn't using GPU either. I don't get how they have worked on it for so long and still never implemented GPU rendering, it's essential.
How many guys are working on this. I don't think that many at all. They probably don't know how to implement the GPU rendering into their software. They probably need to raise some fund to get someone who can do that.
Man, how I wish Gimp got as much love as Inkscape does... when was the last Gimp update? How long until the promised update with non-destructive editing? It's just sad

Exactly, illustrator on the web has been a nightmare for me.
oh shoot this is a nice use case im surprised i haven't looked into it closer
hear! hear! couldn't agree more.
@@SkeleTonHammer actually, painfully slow on a powerful computer...running windows. It's fastest on Linux, and very fast on Mac OS.

@@simeongprinceFor CMYK, Scribus works well, another FOSS product
They're looking into GPU acceleration going forward with the gtk4 port.
Not for 1.4 but huge things are in the works!!!

Axonometric grids are perfect for perspective drawing...
using Designer mainly rn but this is super cool, always great to see open source alternatives progressively get a better alternative
I just want to be able to hide strokes between points, and have it not crash every time I wanna use a power stroke.

Why is it that all open source apps have totally messy overloaded cluttered UI? 😂
Because they're made by programmers, not UI designers. Ever hear the term "programmer art"? These apps have programmer UI.
Not blender, at least when I compare it to Maya.
Depends. A lot of open source apps have even less cluttered ui compared to their closed source alternatives.
@@stevethepocket which makes the case for a good UI
I just upgraded to Inkscape 1.3.2, and everything I try to use path effects-offset… it crashes the program, is this a known issue?
what obout CMYK?
I wonder if you should cover the fact that Unity's new CEO is also an Ex-EA CEO as well... :D
They already did

Finger on the trigger to cancel Illustrator subscription.
personally, Inkscape crashes all the time for me. I find it useless.
It's been solid for me, especially since 1.3 came out. A couple complex jobs, no issues.
Never had a crash
Are on macos? I heard it's not as stable as on linux over there :/
