Multiport acts like a switch case. Whereas assignment block assigns value U at index idx of multidimensional output signal. Rest of the output at indices other than selected index at given given time will be Y0 i.e. initial value.

switch here is case 0 or case default . ex if input signal requires to select the gear 3 case 3 will be triggered and corresponding gear ratio will be multiplied with raw torque which will be used as torque at the wheel without loss.
