  • In this video I install the frets into the guitar neck. However, I made a lot of mistakes.
0:00 - Cutting fret slots to their "final" depth
1:25 - Bending the fret wire
3:01 - Filing a bevel in fret opening
    3:22 - Fret press fail
    3:57 - Using a shop clamp!
6:27 - Realising I didn't cut the fret slots deep enough
8:20 - Switching to a dead blow hammer
10:06 - Repairing dents to the back of the neck
    11:50 - Re-fretting the bad frets
14:45 - Trying the fret press again
    16:33 - Fret glue experiments
22:30 - Gluing the real frets
    24:01 - What am I doing wrong?
    25:27 - Massive clean-up job
28:57 - Filing and Bevelling the fret ends
    32:07 - Done!

I have some frets to fix soon. I may give this clamp technique a go and see how well it works.

Dude, I haven't even put them ALL in! I figured I had to be a little selective otherwise it would just be a blooper reel.
Maybe I'll do a "Whoopsie" episode later?

I wish you the very best of luck! As you saw from my mistakes, make sure to cut the fret slots deep enough, and use some sort of support caul or backing on the back so that you don’t cause any damage.
