Dan is so athletic - I’m very impressed with the way he’s supporting part of the horse’s weight while he’s trimming its feet. Watching Steve and Dan working together as a team is a pleasure to watch because they both are so good at their respective jobs.
I look at ANY farrier job and my back just hurts right away...but I know that they have the muscles built up to withstand most of that. Just, of all the jobs that might be hard on the back I think the specific bending of a farrier has to be one of the worst. Just that position and having to do heavy work all stooped over, I bet they could use almost a full time chiropractor of their own. Then again for as much training as it takes to be a proper farrier you don't really see old farriers, I wonder what farriers typically do later in life if there is a common thing they transition to. They probably are quite fit too, really haven't seen an out of shape farrier either.
@@PurdueAlum01 my best friend was a farrier, after he retired from professional bull and bronc riding. He grew up on a ranch, rodeos for years, trimmed and shod horses to make extra money until he couldn’t do that anymore. He was about 68 years old when he finally quit shoeing horses. He’s now 78, a little stooped over, but doesn’t have too many back problems other than what he says is age stage, lol. He doesn’t complain much, is tough as nails, and still lives life to the fullest. They are a strong, tough breed, those cowboys!
Absolutely - great teamwork. It seemed to me Dan worked fast as well - giving little time for the horse to complain. Good job by all 😎
The way he learnt so quickly to walk nicely around that pen, lovely little chap. And the horse ain’t bad too
This horse is so precious. He definitely is very vocal about his lessons. Every time he is told what to do, he tells Steve he doesn't like it. He makes me laugh. I love his tenacity. He's telling his friends Steve is trying to kill him and to come help him out of this. LOL! What a good boy he was getting a trim. Nice work Steve, as always.
What a beautiful animal!!….only one year old??…boy!…he will be a quick learner!! He is excited at new things, and likes your reassurance!!❤️❤️
Bravo, Steve, another awesome video. Thank you as always to Tanya for the wonderful filming of all the important happenings. Beautiful little horse who just needed the "Steve touch". Love to you both, thumbs up to Dan as well. Can't wait to see another. Cheers. 😘
FAVORITE video, FAVORITE horse. Cheeky little yearling, just needed a "firm but fair" hand (a famous horse trainer says that). I can't imagine what an INCREDIBLE horse he will grow into!! Thank you for bringing joy to an old, disabled nurse. Blessings to you & your family from Southern California, USA.
Steve im sorry but cant even watch your above video at the moment, but I will... I need you to address the issue of the horse that was ill treated in the parade for for royal procession.. if you go to youtube and open up "think like a horse" you will see the footage...would value your olion olesse.. from australia..
It's brilliant what you do with horses Steve ... no heavy handedness. The yearling+ gelding was all anxious and within no time at all, starting from in the stall and ending with him standing for Dan, we witnessed the transformation into a puppy dog, before our very own eyes.
Also, loved the Lusitano mare ... looking forward to those video ... as well, looking forward to Holly's too.
What do you mean there's a really good video coming up next week? They're all really good videos ... I have yet to see a "so, so" video and I highly doubt I ever will. They're all brilliant.
Thanks again!
Truly yes, there isn't one that is a "really good video " 🎬 from SYH. He's so completely unbiased with the equine and human. His interactions with both are genuinely loving
I never tire of watching you work with these horses! Such amazing animals.
You are always a gentleman when speaking to your wife.
And Tanya you’re filming was excellent!
All I can say after watching nearly every one of your videos is WOW. You have honed your skill and simplified it for us to watch and understand.in a way that we can get a glimpse of how to begin. You and your family are lovely and I can't get enough of watching. Thank you so much.
Magic flags, you will be training cows soon !😀That yearling was certainly vocal. Well done team, have a great week.
The Lucitano just glittered! 👍👍😁
the colt looks like he is half Friesian and haven't been gelded ..Lol his neighing talk
Great job Steve!! He was a beautiful colt!!!! Glad to see you are feeling better.
Great horse information - beautiful country side and happy dispositions as a bonus - thanks so much 😊❤️
that is a very cute horse.
Great result for such a short visit, and how funny was Holly with the cows!
I absolutely love watching you work with these horses. Your skills are amazing. Your patience and kindness with them while still setting firm boundaries is beautiful to watch.
Always a great day when we get an upload from you guys!
Thanks for another video!
Beutiful horse
Amazing job, Steve
Loved how Darcy was just chomping away at the tree 🌳 with the cow 😂😂 xx
This horse is beautiful & looks like Black Beauty with the white blaze on his forehead. Steve does wonders with many horses who have problems. Thanks for sharing, really enjoy watching these videos. 😊
Good morning from NZ. Well, you Young family are absolutely super. It's a privilege being able to watch all your wonderful videos. Steve, fair crack of the whip you have every horse respecting and loving you and I bet they'd love to be going home with you. Every day we watch your videos. Just thinking, it must be a bit scary for farriers at times. We love you all to bits. Cheers 👍👌😀😀
What a wonderful video. Steve you are a kindergarten or primary school teacher. What a wonderful job that you do!!
Lovely horse, wish there was some one like you in Scotland . Learn so much, great video
Unbelievable.smashing video again steve.tan. and family.your the tiger woods of horsemanship.thanks guys stay safe ❤️
That yearling is such a beautiful boy! In the right hands, I can see him becoming a champion! I think he's getting a great start after your help Steve!
I look forward to your videos so much and watching the gentle transformation. Great job Steve and excellent camera work Tanya! Bravo to Dan and Charlotte as well. Thanks James for posting. Love the shiny glow of the Lucitano horse. Look forward to next week! Stay safe and happy 😊
Well done Tanya 👏🏼
Great result - beginning - must have been such a relief to get his feet cleaned & trimmed, and with minimal fuss, really. Dan & Steve do make a great team - when you think of some of the battles people have with their (poor) horses trying to get them trimmed/shod. Such a pretty horse, very interested to see how he goes.
The coloring on his hooves &feet very special indeed Beautiful. Thanks for sharing. Part 1/8th arabian? Respect goes a tremendous and various way between horse/owner Amazing. Can I use the Best flag on humans with the unrequested forward motion? jokingly 😄 thus appropriate LoL
Been waiting for another video 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🐎
Wonderful to see follow up video. Was looking forward to it! Beautiful boy! Great learning session. Thanks so much.
What a gorgeous horse. He's nearly purple.
Beautiful colt! A bit spicy with his mouth. 😂. Well done. I’m sure Dan was as appreciative as the owners.
Thank for the lovely video. What a joy to watch you and your team at work.
Steve, , castration under general anesthesia or sedation ? only sedation very often causes problems, ( NO PAIN CONTROL )
I love your videos! This young colt, Rocker, is quick to learn. He’ll be a great one as soon as he gains confidence with your guidance. And the Golden Beauty. What nice clips of him. I could watch that one all day! Thanks for sharing, it’s such a pleasure watching you work with everything. Stay safe and stay healthy! ❤️❤️❤️
Lovely. The Lusitano’s coat is amazing!
When I worked as vet assistent back in Netherlands, the vet told me some horses get traumatised if they sense or see blood dripping from their body, their minds make them believe they are so severely hurt they are gonna die and it causes the flight or fight response. I think the people here who say it has to do with the sedation got a point there, the horse might have had a standing castration with too less sedation and has gone through this primal fear of having his legs or belly severely wounded. After all they dont know what is being done to them other than that they got wounded by the vet standing at their rear end. In Netherlands it is most common to castrate young stallions standing with minimum sedation and local anesthesia straight into the balls. Aside from being dangerous I think its traumatising for the horses who are pretty aware and unable to defend themselves. During my time there I assisted in castration hundreds of times and I cant remember any of them with full sedation laying on the floor (except for the full surgery under full monitored anesthesia of older stallions who would bleed way too much to do it the traditional way). I had to lift one of the frontlegs up while the vet darted his sedation gun loaded with lidocaine into their balls and they did feel that stinger. And so do they when they crush the cord before cutting the ball off. I swore to myself my stallion who has been gelded this week, would be flat out on the floor in the procedure. He has to as he is older and has been breeding anyway. I totally get it some stallions get issues with their hindlegs after castration. And ever so often totally avoidable.
I'm looking forward to the 'biting horse' session. My 4yo mare has just started nipping - not in fun, and I don't know why - so I'll be looking for advice.
Just AMAZING to watch this horse relax and understand what Steve is asking it to do. So cool to watch Steve's body motions bring this horse into him...LOVE IT! Thank you Steve and Tanya!🥰Sharon.
Beautiful round pen and riding arena! Love that footing! Amazing video as usual, Steve and crew!
I agree, that LG and Round pen- So nice! Loved the size of the Round. Footings are cool.. but what are they?!
Oh Steve!!! I've not laughed like this for a long while, this boy knows exactly how to make fun of you with his whinnying!!!🤣❤️
Good for you Tanya. That’s an achievement. Keep up the good work. It will pay off in blood pressure, cholesterol reduction and you’ll feel so much better.
The Yearlings Name Should Have been "Chatty Charlie" - He is such a cute talker,.. On Our Ranch we raised Thoroughbred, Appaloosa & Draft Mix Hunter Jumpers.. we never gelded thn colts until they were narly three- because size, muscle & bone mass is important in a roper, runner , show & trail horse- for us - anyway.. This Little man is so sweet.. I'm glad you are working with him Mr. Young.. He be an amazing fella when he has grown into his disposition.
Thank you for the first video of this yearling with his bad castration, I applied your method to my boy who also has had a bad castration with infection for 3 months, so I had to start all over again with the feet and I also have a fantastic farrier that worked with me and we got it done, I can't say thank you enough to you for your method, it has worked well, and now my boy is great with his feet, for the farrier and me, thank you. Steve Young. From Vicky in Queensland, Australia. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Hope they got a different vet........different breeds of horses can need more sedation....
Oh another treat for my Friday night here in Oz 😍😍 loved it! Beautiful little boy he was too. The colt that is 🤣
Keep up the great work guys 👍👍
I like the sheild shaped blaze on his forehead
Love Ed it I'll do it tomorrow. With my foot Spook y 🐎 thanks take care💟🌹🐴🙋🏼♀️👌🦋🌟🐎👍
Very good time to work him and good age!!…it won’t let him get too full of himself,…love him!👍
Great Job from the Canadian living in California 👍😁🤣😅... Cute little colt.. The second horse a Lufthansa was absolutely GORGEOUS...
With the sheen made her look like she was made of Gold... Beautiful...
Thank you, Tania & Dan for another informative Vlog...
GBY ALL 🙏❤️💙💖💙🤗✝️
Great video, looking forward to seeing how Holly is coming on 👏🏻💕
Thanks for the great video .
Poor little horse, but he was so funny, shouting all the time. Steve should have ear plugs another time! Even for humans the "First day at school" can be nerve-wracking and scary. And it was just him on his own, his friends nowhere in sight, in a strange place with a strange teacher who made him do things he didn't understand. No wonder he was nervous!
It was lovely to see how gradually he began to trust Steve and even look to him for reassurance and leadership. And he did his very best to cooperate when having his toenails cut, even though that was scary too.
And that amazing golden horse! Wow!!!
I really enjoyed this. Thank you.
Steve your bacon sandwich made me hungry and I fried an egg and made a toasted fried egg sandwich with bacon mayonaise ..best I could do on such short notice. and to Tanya I am diabetic and one of my medications is causing me to lose weight and I am over the moon for every pound that comes off. Be proud girl it don't come off as easy as it went on.
Thanks again Steve and Tanya. Great work with the gelding. I suspect my new horse is developing a balking attitude and it would be nice to see your approach. Also, a Q.&A session would be wonderful.😎
Think he does have a baulking video I believe it's a Clydesdale if I'm not mistaken. Definitely a larger work horse. Sorry, not a horse person but have seen so many of these videos and I watch them all the way through. Just awesome! Hope that helps.
I don't mind anxious horses who are "noisy"... because it gives you the perfect notice that their mind is elsewhere. Every time they whinney, I would move them around/disengage their hindquarters with the flag. Until they wanted to stop moving and their attention was back on me. Then continue on. Some horses are harder to read, but this little guy was so vocal he was easy to read! At the start in the arena his mind was all over the place except with Steve, so by giving him things to do and re-directing his attention, he started to get more comfort with Steve and pay attention
What a social boy!
All of your videos are fantastic. Can't wait for the next one.
Brilliant as always .Thankyou .
You guys should look up Heartland … the Canadian series
Steve, why was this horse so much more vocal than most of the others I've seen you train? Does it mean anything pertaining to temperament?? 🐾🇺🇸🐕🦺🦮
and as for the horse well I think I'd have a personality change too in his situation
What a vocal horse, Steve. I bet you wished that you brought along your ear plugs. Ha! I hope that your hearing came back, afterall. I am not joking! From a Canadian Fan of Yours. I truly enjoy your videos, as you are the best horse whisperer that I have known.
We have not got horse … but we look after our daughter in law’s 3 horses when she is on holiday. I must say you have helped us understand them . Thank you so much. Eileen and Brian
In every case both Steve and the horse he is trying to train enter into this emotional journey together whereby the horse is glad you came to free it from the fog of information he has been trying to digest and in every case the transformation is amazing may both of you go on and on 😊 Dennis
at 11 min a horse scream " are you still a life ?" answer: " nooowwowooo i think ai'm gonna die now! " 😅🥰
So chuffed you were able to make a difference with this yearling. He's going to get a lot bigger, better to help him now with his anxiety and teach him how to cope with things now than later. And after expending all his energies whinying and be anxious at the start of the session, then working him, made it a lot easier for Dan to do his feet as he now had a lot of Respect of Space and Respect of Leadership from you. I really hope that the owner does at least some of what you did before your next visit, and I can't wait for that video or the one next week. Safe travels Steve and Tanya. Love from a Retired Paramedic, a S&R Dog and Handler Trainer and Horse Trainer in Ontario, Canada, Jenn. 💖 🇨🇦🇬🇧
Horse bites, painful memories. They do hurt especially if it's on the boob. Yikes.
I’d suspect the anasthesia didn’t work properly when the horse was castrated, like the stories of people who feel everything and are awake but paralyzed during a surgery. Poor guy.
Hi Steve & Tanya - see Monte Roberts comments on loss of Queen. Very touching.
This colt has A LOT of anxiety and fear. They say he started acting like this after gelding him, if that's true it must have been an extra traumatic experience for him... I'm sure it's already quite a scary experience with a painful healing process.
Plus it seemed like he was still missing mom or his herd. He really seemed like he wanted the comfort of another horse.
He seems to be a great little horse though and works very well with people in my eyes.
He just needs some help working through his anxiety and fear.
If he feels safe and sound it's likely he WILL be safe and sound and be a rock solid steady horse someday.
I can see such a great disposition that is inherently in him.
A buddy or two would be great for him I think. Horses need horses, he made that very clear.
Wishing the little yearling and everyone much Health and Happiness ✌🏽
Huge trust thing for horses and their feet, so happy Steve was able to help him get a trim! ❤❤🎉
I get so much out of your training. And with this young and very distracted colt I am seeing that your skill is in getting the horse to change their mind about just who is the herd leader. When I see you asking for the same movement over and over in a stall I can also see that the horse is just listening to get rid of the “pressure”. But out in the pen where he can see the herd and is calling in a little distress he gradually accepts direction from a new “leader”.
Love the video just wish I could hear you.
You 2 are so good together ! Love your conversations - and so incredible with the horses - love your videos congrats
As always another great video, I enjoyed it!😊
I love his mane with the two colours. He's a beautiful horse
You and Tanya did wonderfully with just castrated colt. Holly was better with cows than bay mare,
Beautiful shopping stuff..Thank you.
Another great video Steve, Tanya and Dan! The results made the trim a great success! Beautiful area also!❤
Steve "PERFECT! " 🤠
Well done with this baby Steve! It was wonderful to watch his panic and calling decrease as he turned leadership over to you.
I was wondering about his wide-legged "planting" stance. Do you know if his leg positions become straighter once those huge untrimmed hooves were clipped?
Dan may have mentioned something about it ? I couldn't hear conversations too well. Sorry this little guy had problems with his castration. I hope his owner will shower him with attention and your ground work to build his confidence, trust and happier memories. Good video!
❤️🐎🌟
I read somewhere on youtube that Ghengis and Co rode around the end of the Great Wall of China and got stuck into the Chinese population. They only killed half of the inhabitants, thankfully, about 60 million people.!!!..... I think you will find , Steve, that those little ponies will do more than 70 odd miles a day. At their jiggy joggy they will travel .... Here in Australia in the outback it was common for people to go visiting neighbouring stations in a day , and do 60 to 70 miles on the round trip easily. Imagine old murderous Ghengis pushing everything to the limits! If a pony died, well, cut it up and eat it, and just keep going. Thank you for your wonderful videos, folks. How I wish this was available 50 years ago.
it seems like finally the colt started to focus on Steve after the shark clip
Just the video I needed to see at the right time. Thank you. My yearlings the same age I got her in April. I did a lot of work getting her confidence with contact and the halter. Had a half hour lesson with a training on leading as she'd rear leap to one side. for to the point I could lead her from the front no problems, get her to relax in the school, back up by voice command, fly mask etc. During the kids holiday which gave me limited time she had to have oral medication daily for over week which . She's now almost head shy and doesn't want to be haltered, also head in the sky with anxiety outside the paddock. so sadly I feel like I'm back to square one and gaining her confidence again! I'm guessing that youngsters for you ;) nice to see you lunging this youngster in the round pen, I might do very short session myself, ive held off due to her age but I think it will do wonders. Thank you! I watch a lot of your videos but nice to see a horse the same age
Maybe a lick for the head halter and his shyness? So now it's a good thing when hands are near the face. Take it away when he's not being cooperative? Just a thought. Am surprised he didn't use one for the feet on this video, but obviously Steve didn't need one for this horse. Hope that helps.
He is adorable, so vocal too. 🥰 He has beautiful trot ♥️
He's just an anxious baby who needed to learn some ground manners. The young ones call for their herd mates as its scary to be a youngster and be alone, they feel very vulnerable to predators when they are youngsters. They learn as they age that being with humans is a safe place as they gain confidence. He's a beautiful youngster and will grow into a very handsome horse indeed.
Hi , from Gemany
He Got his hand ful with this little chap took some time to get The horse attention longer Then normale fore Steve but of cause he get The job done again 👍👌thanks man fore another great session to Learn from.
The change in behaviour after castration surprised me. I was expecting the opposite. I know it can take a few months before calmness shows but - as usual your videos never cease to interest me, make me smile/lol & generally improve my mood. Many thanks & enjoy your holiday. 💕😃
Lol so much talk from this young horse, I’m cracking up at his sass!
Gorgeous horse!
Excellent😍
Great result Steve. Thank you both enjoyed the video as always 😊
The coat on that Lucitano horse literally glowed in the sun! So beautiful!!! 🤩
