In a nutshell, it does not matter to me what negative comments are made about the Quran because I find solace, mercy/affirmation and understanding in it. Its fundamental message is to believe in one God and live a good life in service to humanity. Any non-Muslin is my friend - no distinction; I see them as Muslims as well. I am retired without wants; and on reflection, I am thankful to Allah. Peace to all

In a nutshell, you’ve summarized the true purpose of good religion: adopting practices and beliefs that ultimately result in making you a better human being to everyone you come into contact with.
Safe, joyful, and fruitful spiritual journey, brother!
For me, my guidance is the teachings of Jesus Christ, the belief in one God, Whom I will never pretend to be able to explain, but will never stop trying to imagine within the limited scope of my intellect, to Whom I am forever thankful for my inner peace and desire to be good to others

@@halalhomer The Bible, in a strict sense, talks about God the father being the only one to worship and pray to, as preached by Jesus himself. As far as what the oneness of God entails is something that I cannot really explain nor can I speak with confidence about the essence, nature of God- at the end, who can? What is clear in the Bible is that no one needs to believe Jesus is God in order to be saved. As a result, that is something I merely speculate on and do not consider to be essential to my faith. The primary focus of Jesus’s teachings is about revealing the purpose of the Father and the path for salvation for mankind. Such is my belief, which I strive to keep as faithful as possible to what is taught in the Gospel. Essentially, my faith is spiritual not subscribed to any denomination, the simple reason that the Bible has never recommended for me to called anything else, kind of an Occam’s razor approach, if you will.
I hope it’s clear. If not, feel free to ask more questions or even challenge. I would welcome it.

@@halalhomer I avoid these labels because they are merely the results of philosophical discussions and can actually have implications beyond my understanding. Saying I am unitarian would actual inject into the crowd of men who pretend that they can explain the nature of God. As I have pointed out earlier, I don’t know what the oneness means or entails fully, no one can actually explain it. I am content with knowing that God is one. Of course I speculate, we all have a curious mind and wonder about the unseen and unknown, but it would be dishonest of me to present my speculation as facts and conviction. My brother, in this life and body in which we are enclosed, it is impossible, as it stands, for us to understand the spiritual world. I have ideas that I would not dare to present necessarily as religious truths. Our world is more complex than we can ever suspect, there’s a physical world to which we have just recently become barely acquainted to, the quantum world, a universe which we cannot measure, galaxies separated from one another by billion of light years. Just ponder on that for a second to realize how complex and infinite the architect of our world be. How can we know any more of God than what is essential for our salvation? I believe that faith is about learning and humility.
One day we all die to this world, and maybe revert to a form where things of the spiritual world are made clear to us. I am saying all this to tell you that I don’t know what the oneness of God is and how such oneness manifest itself. Believing in and loving God is enough for me. My ability to engage in intellectual exploration, using science trying to appreciate the work of God are just bonuses. I hope you understand me.
      What are your thoughts?

It is also possible that these manuscripts were from a student trying to learn Quran, as we do nowadays with wooden boards.
In my region, they used to take wooden boards, prepare ink (from burning Wool), and write on that board before starting to learn.
After finishing, students had to erase the ink by scrubbing it. and write over it again.

On the contrary, it makes my faith in Islam stronger bc it prevents me from insulting someone's belief like you do.
Plus, isn't it a miracle that even though our prophet(SAW) forgot the verses but many people had memorized the Quran so he was able to remember? It shows that the Quran can never be lost. And It proves my Allah (SWT)'s word correct that the Quran is preserved.

Quran is virtually FULLY preserved IN WRITTEN and ORALLY too ! In many cases, ORALLY can also be extremely powerful.
So what Bro Shabir is really trying to say is :
If some ANTIQUE Quran have a tiny spelling mistakes ( TYPO ), then this is only because there are countless people from the past writing countless different Quran by HANDS.......But because the Quran is also preserved through ORAL TRRADITION.........then some of these tiny TYPOS can be easily corrected too.

He meant exactly what he said, because he had studied the material and is aware of hadiths. There are many that say that certain passages have been left out or forgotten, for example Sahih al-Bukhari 5005-Umar said, “Ubayy was the best of us in the recitation (of the Qur’an), yet we leave some of what he recites.” Ubayy says, “I have taken it from the mouth of Allah’s Messenger and will not leave it for anything whatever.”
Sahih Muslim 2286-Abu Musa al-Ash’ari sent for the reciters of Basra. They came to him and they were three hundred in number. They recited the Qur’an and he said: You are the best among the inhabitants of Basra, for you are the reciters among them. So continue to recite it. (But bear in mind) that your reciting for a long time may not harden your hearts as were hardened the hearts of those before you. We used to recite a surah which resembled in length and severity to (Surah) Bara’at. I have, however, forgotten it with the exception of this which I remember out of it: “If there were two valleys full of riches, for the son of Adam, he would long for a third valley, and nothing would fill the stomach of the son of Adam but dust.” And we used to recite a surah which resembled one of the surahs of Musabbihat, and I have forgotten it . . .
Abu Ubaid, Kitab Fada’il-al-Qur’an-A’isha . . . said, “Surat al-Ahzab (xxxiii) used to be recited in the time of the Prophet with two hundred verses, but when Uthman wrote out the codices he was unable to procure more of it than there is in it today [i.e. 73 verses].”

Dr Shabir, you have identified in some detail the scribal errors in the Paris Quran, but avoided the deliberate man made changes to the text that were made at a later date in an attempt to correct the document to be in line with later textual traditions. I refer to the scholarly work carried out in great detail in recent years by Daniel Brubaker, “Corrections in Early Quran Manuscripts”. Brubaker has had personal access to and examined in great detail six of the earliest Quran manuscripts including the Samarkand, Topkapi and Paris documents. He has concluded that there are hundreds of deliberate alterations including insertions, erasures / removals, overwritten erasures, additions, and overwriting without erasures in all of these documents. These changes were deliberately carried out at some time after the original documents were written seemingly in an attempt to standardise, which was unsuccessful as there are conflicts one document with another.
These changes would indicate that it is impossible to state that that Quran has been unchanged since the time of Mohammed and Uthman. Dr Shabir, Can you please comment on Brubaker’s finding?

    • @rhuiden4086
      @rhuiden4086 4 роки тому +14

The key to preservation and checking of manuscripts is in collective memorization and recital of the Quran en masse, where the sacredness of the Quran comes to life and no error will go unnoticed by hafiz memorisers in the sacred recital gatherings. this is an alien concept to people like Daniel Brubaker.

Even my children aged 11 and 13 have memorised 100th of it in arabic as it is melodic in nature and not a text book on physics. Your Brubaker simply does not understand text being erased and written over on parchment is not some form of conspiracy. This was standard practice in the era prior to mass produced paper as parchment was expensive to replace, so scribes were making human errors and correcting it. Again, sacred oral memorization of the Quran instituted by Prophet Muhammad himself is the key, as well as the scribes who wrote and recited it back to him. The authenticity of the Quran cannot be challenged as more proof has emerged supporting the accuracy of the text.

@@rhuiden4086 Oddizzee. The accuracy of memorisation and recitation was clearly a deep concern for Caliph Uthman in the early years after Mohammed’s death, as he found it necessary for a second review of all available Quranic texts due to a wealth of conflicting documentation over just a few years. This was a man-made intervention of Allah’s message, not divine, as he undertook to decide himself what was correct and then burnt anything that he disagreed with. Hardly proof of an unchangeable Quran! If you really want to prove that Uthman’s Arabic text is 100% preserved in today’s Quran, then you need to come up with an authentic original Uthman document. Where is it? This question has been asked many times with no response!

As an academic studying early Quranic manuscripts he fully understands corrections due to scriptural errors, and has shown in great detail that the changes to the Quran manuscripts that he has identified are not only scriptural errors, but are also due to much later deliberate scriptural changes. Please read it yourself so you can fully understand the research. Do not accept the conclusions of others but review Dr. Brubaker’s work and draw your own conclusions. Despite Muslims claiming that there were thousands of reciter’s at the time of Mohamed and for that reason there can be no loss of details from collective memory. Yet we know from the Quran itself that the Verses for Stoning and Breastfeeding are missing.
’Ibn Umar al-Khattab: "Let no one of you say that he has acquired the entire Qur’an for how does he know that it is all? Much of the Qur’an has been lost, thus let him say, ‘I have acquired of it what is available"’ A’isha: "During the time of the prophet, the chapter of the Parties used to be two hundred verses when read. When Uthman edited the copies of the Qur’an, only the current verses were recorded" Ubay ibn Ka’b: "This companion asked one of the Muslims, ‘How many verses in the chapter of the Parties’ He said, ‘Seventy-two or seventy-three verses.’ He (Ubay) told him, ‘It used to be almost equal to the chapter of the Cow (about 286 verses) and included the verse of the stoning.
This was narrated by Maalik in al-Muwatta’ (Kitaab ar-Ridaa‘, hadith no. 17), and via him by Imam Muslim (1452) and others. We may note here that the report of Imam Maalik from ‘Abdullah ibn Abi Bakr includes mention of the story of the goat or tame sheep eating pages of the Mus-haf.:
It was narrated by Muhammad ibn Ishaaq. His version says: The verse of stoning and breastfeeding of an adult ten times was revealed, and it was written on a leaf that was kept beneath the bed of [‘Aa’ishah’s] house. When the Messenger of Allah fell sick, we were preoccupied with his situation, and a little animal came in and ate it.
There are even disputes about the order of Sura's - Ibn Masud’s Quran starts 2,4.3,7 & ends with Sura 94. While Ubayy’s begins 1,2,4,3 and ends with 114.
Therefore the Quran itself reports it is lacking parts and Muslims cannot then claim that the Quran is complete.

      GARY MILLER, PROFESSOR OF MATHEMATICS
Gary Miller was a professor of Mathematics at the University of Toronto. He also was a Christian missionary who noticed that Muslim people were almost impossible to convert to Christianity. In 1977 he decided to study the Quran with the goal of finding scientific and historical errors that would help in convincing Muslims they are following a false religion.
The first thing professor Miller noticed was that many verses of the Quran challenge people to use reason:
“Will they not then contemplate the Quran? and if it had been from other than God, indeed they would have found in it many contradictions.” (Quran 4:82)
“… and in case you are suspicious about what we have been sending down upon our bondman, (i.e. prophet Muhammad) then come up with a surah of like, and invoke your witnesses, apart from God, in case you are sincere.” (Quran 2:23)
After careful study professor Miller was amazed by the Quran and reached the conclusion that it cannot be the work of a human being. He accepted Islam and started calling people to the straight path through lectures and other activities. His lecture “the Amazing Quran” shows the deep knowledge he acquired during his study of the book of Allah. Here are some of the points he makes in the lecture:
“There is no such author who writes a book and then challenges others that this book is errorless. As for the Quran, it is the other way around. It tells the reader that there are no errors in it and then challenges all people to find any, if any.
The Quran is not Prophet Muhammad’s autobiography as many non-Muslims claim. It does not mention the hard events in Prophet Muhammad’s personal life, such as the death of his wife Khadijah, or the death of his daughters and sons. Strangely enough, the verses that were revealed during a time of defeat for the Muslims proclaimed victory while those revealed at time of victory warned against arrogance and called for more sacrifices and efforts. If one writes his own autobiography, he would magnify the victories and justify the defeats. The Quran did the opposite and this is consistent and logical: it was not a history of a specific period but rather a text that sets general rules for the relationship between God almighty and the people.

The first recorded text in the Arabic alphabet was written in AD512, this only had 16 Letters, and was the transition script from the previous Nabataean variation of the Aramaic alphabet, itself a derivative from the former Phoenician language. This was the Arabic alphabet Uthman used to supposedly write the Quran in 652. However, this Arabic script is written without ḥarakāt (Diacritical marks and vowels), a few of these were introduced in 656 by fourth Caliphate Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib, but the rest were only finalized around 786 by al-Farahidi. Moreover, the present day Arabic language has 28 letters and only this is used to write the current Quran. Therefore, not only has the language of the Quran been changed by the addition of the Dots and Vowels, but the original script used in the Uthmanic text has had to be extracted/expanded/ translated from the ORIGINAL 16 Letter “RASM” Clear Text, and therefore CANNOT be the original writing. Proving it has been corrupted by Man.

Have you compared specific passages in the Paris ms. with corresponding passages in the Hafs or in the King Fahd edition of today? This is a concept used in software engineering (hadoop distributed storage and processing for example) by companies like Facebook and Google. More importantly, the Quran is more a verbal recitation than a written book, only written for further transmission. There are millions of memorizers across the globe today, many of whom have a chain of teaching up to the Prophets companions that learned it first hand.
