- Tamil Nadu MP Kanimozhi targeted the Centre over the allocation of funds for South Indian railways. While speaking in the Lok Sabha during the debate on Budget 2022, Kanimozhi said only Rs 59 crore has been allocated for building new railway lines for the Southern Railway but the Northern Railway got Rs 13,200 crore for the same. She requested Union railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to look at the 'disparity'.

The reason is because they are more developed and their GSDP is favourable compared to northern states, so the Southern states receive less than what they give, whereas most northern states due to under-development and poverty receive more than what they give, the funds come from the central pool the Consolidated Fund of India (This is based on the 15th Finance Commission, Vertical and Horizontal Devolution of funds)

It's not the quality of coaches allocated. It's how they are maintained by Railways and treated by public in both the states. Many know the answer for it, if they have travelled both in South and North parts of India..

When hindi belt states people come to South india they speak in hindi they are not interested to learn our languages. They impose a language which we don't speak on us. As lover of mega projects. I didn't noticed any big projects by central government in south india. Too sad

Most South governments which r opposition don't cooperate for quick project execution and don't like centre intervention and questioning.
Maharashtra got bullet train project but delayed the land procurement project for 1.5 year as they fewer the credit of bullet train will go to Modi. Japan which is funding the project is upset at such slow progress.
Hence most projects going to UP Bihar MP as there is BJP governments and CMs can be pushed to deliver the deadlines on land acquisition and support to hasten the project completion by 2024.

@@mohit13reddy did you even check the facts??? ₹7134 crore has been allocated to SR. Moreover ₹13000 is outrightly not going to NR. Most of it is spent on East to extend railway services there. Much of the trade in North is carried out by railways, South is getting money for the maintenance of ports. Also kindly check the disparities in setting up of public sector industries since independence, north hardly got anything.
This is serious issue tax allocation among north and south is very different why because in south most states have different ideology. Geographically north is more vast than south but that doesn't mean that indians in south feel any type of discrimination. As a indian we should treat every region equally.
Govt allocated Money for developmental works as per need.

I live in Bangalore and I am an avid traveler...I have traveled in trains many times in various South places and I feel the quality of trains is far more better and cleaner than those of North trains...If u really wanna compare, look at Howrah trains... how horribly it is maintained and how it is over crowded where people travel without tickets....Most of South Indians are educated class and prefer travelling in flights or buses compared to trains....
But if she has raised the issue on Trains and jobs with facts & figures, then I completely agree that there should be no discrimination on budget....
The quality of trains and cleanliness is better in South because the quality of people in the South is so much better than that in the north. That the South Indian are cleaner, hard working and conscientious is no reason for HIndiwallahs and hindiwallah politicians to keep discriminating against South India. The bigger question to ask is: Even after looting South India for 70 years, why is the state of NOrth India, including the trains in north india, so pathetic?

If I were to go one step ahead and ask, 'Even though Kerala only gets back 18% of the revenues it gives to the center, and Karantaka only gets back 20%, and TN and AP also similarly low amounts, but Bihar gets 300% more back from the center than what it gives the center, and UP gets 200% back from the center, and similar high allocations to the big HIndi speaking states, and yet these HIndi states keep languishing at the bottom while the Southern states keep progressing, why can't the HIndi speaking states perform as well as the South Indian states'?, does that make me anti-national? Who exactly is anti-national, people who raise pertinent questions, or the people on who so much is spent after taking money from others, and yet these people who get so much money spent on them do not improve.

Comparing data for selective period will not reveal the whole picture. If you look at the railway infra in south vs North, there is wide gap. In South, Railway Infra was developed from British era and it very widely connected network. The Rail Infra in the East and North were neglected for many decades, hence allocation is done more in the recent years. We have to see these data in totality and the whole context. For that you need to be wise and not necessarily educated.

For your kind information you should know one thing India has the highest railway network density in the Northern India (specifically in the Northern plains)and in kerela . Britishers had also developed railway network in the north. Whoever from south who have travelled northwards knows the difference in the coaches. It's a public reality. The rusted rickety ones in death bed are sent to south.
