Just about all Japanese 70s to 80s good quality tuners will beat just about all Mcintosh in selectivity, sensitivity and distortion. Besides why should I pay 10 times more for Mcintosh. Mcintosh gears are all overpriced.
I appreciate your taking the time to weigh in. I did not go into all of the tuner specs between the two since I was just looking at how well each did at just picking up the same FM signal at two frequencies. Probably should have compared the specs between the two. The McIntosh has a lot more electronics to process the RF signal and the one I tested probably needs an alignment, so I would be surprised if brand new tuners of each that I tested would show that the McIntosh did a better job. I would agree that you are paying more for the McIntosh brand name. But they make a good product and seem to support them. I go back to my Rolex analogy- one may cost $5000 but may not keep time as good as my $100 Casio analog watch... but it is a Rolex......

I am chuckling reading your "well produced" comment. I thank you so much for taking a few moments say some nice things about the channel. I did get a new "vlogging camera" which I think will make it a bit easier for me. I try to follow pretty much the same "format", which helps me. The analyzer I use is a QuantAsylum QA402- they are up to a QA404 now, but they may be hard to get as the parts shortages slowed them down and they have a fairly big backlog of orders. The software for it is free and there is a pretty good user forum, plus and active owner. It does have a bit of a learning curve, but I wouldn't be w/out it.
@@vintageaudioreview Didn't know about QA. Fairly $$ analyzers, though not AP price by far. Newer, cheaper Cosmos E1DA ADC may be worth investigating . I think it was built to emulate the AP 555.
@@h0ll0wm9n I was looking for a better A/D converter for non testing purposes (converting some of my old vinyl) and couldn't find anything much better than the $20 Behringer unit II have, but the E1DA is much better. As for an audio analyzer, the QA40x is a self contained system designed for audio and it price well worth it and much less expensive than AP stuff. It can do speaker impdeance measurements if you build the cables for that as well.
That is a very nice comment to make! For me, having such comments or folks sharing about their experiences with a certain piece of gear that they had or have, makes this worthwhile as it takes many hours to put together a video. I am continually learning as well, as are some of my "audio friends". Sometimes a viewer will ask for help solving a problem they may have with something that I reviewed that they own, and I will try to give them what advice I can. Thanks again!!

@@GlennBerrySQL Yes, I am aware of Skylabs audio and subscribe to them and enjoy the videos 98% of the time. I guess that is a suggestion for me, but I can only do that once in a blue moon since I mainly focus on performance data... I appreciate the input!
