John Madden was football. Yes he was a coach, a broadcaster, a video game, an innovator, but he embodied integrity and connected with people wherever he went - beyond football - he was an ambassador for how to treat people. TRUE LEGEND.
John Madden enriched my life for decades, except for that 1974 divisional playoff game against my Miami Dolphins who were going for 3 SBs in a row. Kenny Stabler's miracle pass with seconds left broke Fin fans' hearts. But we still love you John.
I'll always be a fan of John Madden, even though his Raiders beat my Vikings in one of our many Super Bowl losses. A great coach, who also seemed like a very decent man. I hope he is enjoying many delicious turduckens in heaven! May God rest his soul.
When Nantz & Madden were at CBS simultaneously, they would hardly cross paths. Jim was covering their college properties and wouldnt be placed permanently on their NFL coverage until 1991 and that would be for play by play. and be assigned lower case games for those first two years. Madden had his bus & wouldnt be in a position to be in a production event with Jim, so it would be understandable for Nantz to feel daunted by Madden.
Love this heartfelt story by Jim! Madden is missed....
Honored to hear your truest feelings and emotions, Jim Nantz. God bless!
Beautiful tribute.
As a lifelong Raider fan I feel blessed he was our coach. Him and Kenny were amazing.
Both great gentleman and great coach and player
Legends never die. Madden was beyond boss status.

My best friend put his beer thru the TV with one angry throw!!!
“Stay tuned after the game for Murder………..She Wrote”. 😂
Madden and Summerall. Best to do it.
Madden was literally universally loved. He's impossible to dislike
“Not that he’d want to see me 3 times a week” 🤣 That one got me to laugh.
Madden/Summerall were THE guys in the 80s man. The Sundays of my childhood.
That's good to hear from Nantz . Go RAIDERS 💯
John Madden in one word: "BOOM"!
