@@deetsitmeisterjd probably because the x men just aren’t as popular as Iron Man or Spider-Man, at least this way they had a way to bunch together a group of mismatched heroes.

Not to mention Ironman is done in the MCU, and the X-Men are coming. And when they do, man, the hype will be crazy.
I am REALLY hoping that they simply keep expanding on this game. I heard that the sales weren't great but it's been mentioned that there is a chance that the game will still have solid long-term sales, even if initial sales were disapointing. Considering how much support Firaxis games (XCOM, CIV) have had in the past from the mod community and the developer themselves in the form of really good DLC and quality of life mods from the steam workshop I'm just hoping that the same is going to happen for Midnight Suns. I desperately want this game to be successful in the short but also long run. Sure, give me a Sequel in like 4-6 years but please add to THIS game. It needs transformative Expansions that do to Midnight Suns what War of the Chosen did to XCOM and the major Expansions did for CIV. So not just a couple of Hero DLCs but something that alters the game in a fundamental way. So more heroes, sure, but more importantly a revamped/new campaign with more mission variety and less "upkeep" between battles (but similar upgrade loop). At the same time, give modders the tools to create mods for this to allow this game to rank among the likes of Skyrim, Cities Skylines etc. in terms of modability and longevity. If Firaxis manages to do that, then when they ever a sequel to this game years down the road, people will lose their minds just like they did when XCOM2 was announced.
They basically fired whole XCOM team, lead designer and main producer specifically due to the game undeperforming sales-wise, so when buying this game don't expect there will be any expansions or improvements, it's basically dead game now (outside of bugfixes).
I haven't played this game, but X-Com: Enemy Unknown was revolutionary even without all the things you've mentioned. It's probably because of the legacy behind that X-Com brand name, but I think the newer games delivered on the modern take on old x-coms. This essentially is a new IP. Like you say it needs more hype and Dev support, but it's gonna be hard to get the same level of hype for this games' sequel compared to an X-Com or Civ game.

Please don’t include mass effect in your comparison because there is none. This game I received for free with the purchase of a video card and now I see why. It’s a fucking piece of shit and 30 minutes was all I could force my self to play. It took be back to a time that I went to a comic shop with a friend at which point I followed him to a back from where a group of no pussy getting mfkers were sitting at a round table playing that stupid fking card game magic. I feel the same except for Mass Effect. Or maybe you care to explain? So far enjoy this game except for the story and activities. I skip past everything to just play battles
Having sank about 30 hours into the game, I’d say this is a pretty fair review. While I did really enjoy the out-of-combat parts of the game, you can kind of tell that it’s not Firaxis’ forte in how to pull this sort of thing of.
This game reminded me of Metal Gear Ac!d, and Ac!d 2, a franchise that I loved dearly and really wanted more of. The mixture of tactical gameplay with card-based decks just scratches some itch I have.
There is 4 new heroes coming in the season pass among who knows what else, hopefully as it gets updates there will be good changes. Xcom 2 had great dlc
Can one of the DLCs be actual good looking cutscene video and not some janky mess that looks like it was developed for the Ipad with a smaller window inside of a window and my god the massive amounts of video pixelation and video distortion. Its like someone ported a mobile game to PC/Console and then 2k said yeah full price sounds about right.
On the subject of performance on pc: also had issues with performance despite my hardware specs, but after someone showed me how to reroute the Steam version's launch to bypass the 2K launcher my performance improved MASSIVELY, so that might be what affected your settings.
Is there a companion or loyalty mission for heroes? Like maybe this whole Supes alliance talk sims thing would be better & more engaging if it also have stakes to combat missions. Just like with almost every other RPGs with party or companions/partners characters.
@@Fextralife that's not missions, just bland boring talk to get boosts instead of specific challenge missions. Would been much more fun to be able to choose different missions and challenges etc to get what u like to prioritize for gameplay bonuses or abilities, and affect even the relationships.
No special missions. there are some missions which require one hero to be there but no specific mechanics are associated. And there are "challenges" where you'll have to have a hero perform some actions during a mission (activating their special power x times, etc...) But both are lackluster, clearly they should have designed some story missions (at least one per hero) balanced aroun their specific game mechanic.
Heads up there is a 3 hour free trial available for Midnight Suns. I tried it on Series X. Pretty high quality overall. The faces were the only thing that kind of stood out but the voice actors and writing were good and it was pretty amusing, also. I'm not a marvel fan at all really but I want to play more of this.
Don't get me wrong I'm still going to get the game but just one tiny question. there's a demon witch hellbent on destroying the world. Corrupting heroes and villains alike. And essentially pretty much terraforming the entire planet. Why are we using this time to sit around and play cards and go stargazing. Like with that premise alone, isn't there I don't know a much larger threat that's looming over the Earth that's kind of being ignored.
This game has so much potential but there are so many things that drag it down. I hate the 15 different currency, I hate having to talk to characters every day just to get them stronger, I hate roaming around the grounds opening chests just to get palette swaps of some boring ass clothes, I hate that to get regular quality of life features I hate to wait to research them, and I hate that all that time was spent on this superfluous shit that worked against the game instead of mission, enemy, and card variety. Such a shame. I also skipped every piece of dialog and cutscene. I also feel like that custom character could have been cut and nothing would have been lost. Also some of the characters are just unbearable. The Midnight Suns talking shit about the fucking Avengers was just ridiculous. "Who are they anyway? They'll just get in our way." They have saved the universe a thousand times over. What the fuck are you on about.
I luv this game, first game I've been glued to the TV 12 hrs straight since halo 2. Story is just as good or better than mediocre marvel movies. Combat great, relationship building okay, deck building card gathering GREAT. This game isn't a sweat fest XCOM2, but still a great n fun game. 8/10
The only problem I'm having so far is my characters slow walk...when I saw that, I immediately thought I was going to hate this game. Please, never hire that mo-cap person again for any games, ever.
most important part of this was replayability which you spoke volumes about and I cannot wait to get my legendary edition tomorrow. thank you for the great review. everything I thought about prior to watching it you read my mind and had an answer. I hope with fans supporting it financially firaxis will see the potential in this side venture from xcom amd we will see dlc or added factions enemies
got this game on sale weeks ago, blown away how good this game was, the battle is crazily deep with insane a positioning system that is so crucial despite you team as a whole having only 1 move every turn.
I’m on the fence. I want those skins! I was set to preorder it but after watching many reviews I’m reconsidering it. The livestream also kind of turned me off from the graphics
Never buy games at launch. These days games at launch are basically beta versions. The “Enhanced Edition” 1 year later is what I consider the finished state.
Thank you for this review! I was on the fence already being an XCOM fan...let's face it the story in XCOM isn't exactly top tier but it's good enough. The extra story stuff seems like a chore. I think I'll skip this one.
I’m not going to be a debby downer based on reviews. I know the combat is going to be great and the story/relationship building is subjective but I believe I’ll enjoy the other aspects of the game. Day 1 buy for me.
My standards are so high for Marvel content at this point that I don't know what it would take for me to buy another Marvel product, at least while Disney owns it.
You mean the same Disney that has owned it since the second or third MCU movie came out? That Disney? IF you are going to complain about something, could you at least research it so you don't sound like an idiot?
I may not have played 100 hours. But I did do 75. Getting all the collectables, max out all friendship companions and explored every nook and cranny of the sh*thole Abbey. And honestly... While I'm looking forward for the upcoming DLC. Which I hope is post game cause I really wanna see what happens after the ending. I really don't think there's gonna be a Midnight Suns 2.
@@J-leaf Sounds good, it's on sale right now for 49.99 (ulti edition), but I just got XCom2 Ultimate Edition for 9.99. So it's tempting to pick it up for the half-off price, but I feel it'll go on sale better next holidays a year after release. (also it would really be on the back-burner anyways i think) Thanks for a reply btw I appreciate that!
@@SuperDemo19 No problem. But you should most definitely buy the Ultimate Edition since that comes with the season pass. Because buying the Dlc's singular is a horrible choice due it's high f**king price that I'm sure won't get decreased anytime soon.
@@J-leaf Yeah I saw that... Really was off-putting to me tbh, considering I read/heard that the dlcs just come with short missions regarding the Hero than that's about it. (Even though I do love Venom..) It's hard for me to justify putting down a first time run of XCOM2 WotC for playing that. It's definitely a good price though for $49.99 right now, but I don't think I'd play it right now so I will hold off. Thanks for talking a bit back and forth about this, really helped me come to a decision! (My gf tries to help, but she just doesn't play games/turn based
I played this over the weekend while it was free - the combat was interesting. Definitely an interesting variation on the XCOM idea and I really dug playing as Marvel superheroes. I didn't play that long though so I'm curious - just how bad is the dialogue/story elements in the Abbey? I find myself often skipping overly long dialogue - Horizon Forbidden West got bad about this at times, the only strike against what is otherwise a fantastic game. Same with Assassin's Creed Odyssey which I'm playing now - it's just blah blah blah blah blah and I'm twiddling my thumbs waiting to get back to the action. It does surprise me because TLOUP1 and TLOUP2 are two of my favorite games of all time but the story elements there don't seem that boring or overly long.
@@coolbreezesolid I did end up buying the game at the sale right after that. Got the legendary edition for $65 as a birthday present to myself. The dialogue does get considerably better. I ended up putting ~140 hours in to complete my first playthrough. Playing other games now but eventually I'll play it again in New Game+ mode
I literally got past the tutorial and before the first real mission when I came to find out if the dialogue would carry on outstaying its welcome. Thanks for confirming
The writing is so good!! Can confirm, can confirm, can confirm! But Fex is right, tho; the character interaction will only appeal to you if you're a marvel fan or really interested in the lore. Having some prior knowledge abt the characters definitely enhances the experience. But the personalities are very distinguished and banter is top tier. Doctor Strange was never on my radar of interest, not even mcus version, but he's my favorite character here - so the dialogue is def dialoguing.
The game was fun, enjoyable, and addicting. You can also play Deadpool legally w/o the drama etc. At first, I hesitated to play this because of the negative reviews, but when I played it, I got hooked. Although, I feel like the tutorial is too long, nevertheless, I found the characters like Magik, robbie, nico, caretaker, lilith interesting and refreshing since there's just too much "avengers" going on like games, movies, merch, etc you know what I mean. For a strategy game it was better than "tactical rpg squares" and you can also take advantage of stuff from the environment/stage, however, I wish I could take atleast 4 heroes. The daily activity reminds me of Persona but with less pressure since you can do whatever before sleeping. You can also take your time preparing/side missions before you go to story missions. 100 hours doesn't look impossible.
They should’ve took a lesson from the Persona Series if they wanted to make confidant story telling more interesting. The combat looks like solid fun, hope they continue with that if they make sequels or expansions.
I bought the PC version and am dealing like everyone with bug issues (long loads, crashes, lag, etc). From what I have been able to play so far I like. Hopefully the issues are fixed soon so I can put more quality hours in.
I just like that they thought "hmm, well of course superheros don't miss!" and then thought "superheros do definitely have to flip through a hand of cards to figure out what attacks they can do!"
Jake Solomon the game director for this game did an interview with Waypoint where he talked through the design decision to add cards. If you are interested I recommend you listen to the full podcast of the interview (waypoint radio podcast) but it essentially boils down to, one of the things they they is crucial to replayable "combat puzzles" (his phrase not mine) is randomness. Randomness adds that extra wrinkle to combat/strategy where your best laid plans might not workout in xcom because a high percentage shot misses so how do you adapt. In midnight suns you have a full suite of abilities via cards that will 100% hit and work as intended but the randomness comes in that through the card system where you might not get the 1 card in your deck to make your strategy work due to a bad shuffle and now you have to adapt. He also talked about how their first playable demo was basically xcom reskined as marvel and it felt terrible because it didn't live up to the super hero fantasy not only because of abilities missing but you had no-name grunt enemies doing serious damage and killing super heroes and the super hero fantasy isn't watching iron man or captain America get destroyed by a random soldier. But check out the podcast interview for a better explanation.
Great review Sidenote: i feel like you should probably state the fact that you're playing on low graphics settings right off the bat so more casual gamers dont get confused 😭
If the story is bad and the gameplay in between combat is bad... there is not much to this game that appeals to me ^^, Plus it looks super ugly somehow. Too bad... I LOVED the X-COM games....
Bring some dark X-Man Game...In Style of "Age of Apocalypse". Its by art and Story one of the best Marvel Comic series ever! I wonder no 1 is bringing this beauty back to life🧐 Midnight Sun looks like a Mobilegame tbh 😆
I was looking forward to a third person action game that wasn't turn-based but I knew there was going to be some type of weird take on Blade and other underutilized characters as usual. I wish they would have expanded upon Marvel's avengers game with all of these characters.
I love the writing and dialogue in this game, I don't understand why people keep complaining about it. I did not come in expecting a magnum opus from a classical novelist, the story is fun, the dialogue is funny and full of heartfelt moments, that's all I cared about, and my expectations have been met.
Same, the Story and characters, exploring the abbey grounds area nice change of pace outside of combat, I am in no rush to get to the end of the story, I want to 💯 this game and be ready for future dlc.
Because from a writers perspective, most of the dialogue is about as mundane, generic, and uninteresting. I'm glad folks like it, but after playing other games with BEAUTIFUL writing this is a huge letdown. If this is all that's expected from the Comics fanbase I'm not sure what else to say.
1) The main issuses are on PC 2) The dialogue can be skipped 3) The Card system is fantastic , this is not a card game but an rpg. 4)Highly addicting tbh , no fight is the same imo, regardless of the repetitiveness he said above.
I'll pick this up in a few months. All your issues with the game were my worry. I just played Symphony of War on Steam and it was excellent so I'm cool waiting to play this.
Agreed and for its price, it doesn’t feel or look like a next Gen game.. I HATED walking around the abbey grounds can’t even walk over a pebble to take a shortcut somewhere.. the combat kept me in the game.
this game owns so hard. it's such a great foundation for what could eventually be a 10/10 all-timer strategy game that's also fun for casual players. alas a confluence of circumstances led to its being a total failure commercially but i'm glad that it's basically now become something of a cult classic at least. i hope if 2k has made firaxis bail on it entirely that someone else takes the inspiration and applies it to maybe a less high-budget title. i'm not even a marvel fan though and i thought the license was used exquisitely, both in and out of combat. so many (gasp!) moments.
If you can spend over 100 hours it must be a pretty incredible game!! holy shit...I've spent like 140 hours on Persona; I can't fathom a turn based tactical shooter type game having 100 hours of content wtf... I just got this via Humble Bundle...didn't want it per se, but maybe its actually good.
If you like persona, you'll like this. It has the same friendship ranking system. Hang out, give gifts, and reap those sweet, sweet battle perks. And if you're a marvel fan, then definitely worth it. The character interaction is truly epic. We persona fans are immune to heavy dialogue; in fact, we revel in it! ehehehe Character growth and budding friendships are our bread and butter.
It's $60 for the Standard Edition on all platforms, including PS5. $70 is for the Enhanced Edition, which includes some skins and 5 extra characters. $100 for the Legendary Edition, which has a lot more skins and includes the upcoming Season Pass. For me personally, $60 is too much for this particular game ... I'm not in that much of a rush to play it. Going to wait a long time for a sale, maybe pick up that Legendary Edition when it hits $30.
As a marvel and xcom fan I have to agree that the non combat part is tedious. In the beginning, there is too much to do every time you get out of combat. At some point you automatically go through a list of activities. I was way ahead on some abbey storylines and I kept postponing main missions to improve everything. What i do notice is that it is difficult to stop the game. Get out of combat and you have all these activities to check off. Then the next morning you put everyone to work and get new abilities, and then you can pick a new mission and once that starts, you really want to play just one more turn....
That was a tipping point for me. Who is writing this stuff. You have decades of already written dialogue with these characters. Just meet wolverine in a bar and shoot pool or go on a bike ride with blade hunting vamps. It's not difficult.
Feels like a lot of these negatives are literally subjective. All of what is said here could be said of fire emblem three houses. And that is a highly acclaimed switch strategy game. Same personal time in monastery, getting to know characters, turn based strategy etc. So if this is like that games and seems to be, looks great
What do you mean prediction.. reviews saying exactly this have been out a while mate. Literally the video you commented under is saying exactly what you predicted it's not really a prediction
@@NikELbErGErBergel Because as we know that always, without fail, 100% of the time, the opinions of critics and users line up completely with no discrepancy between the two.
Great take, reviews dont line up with public opinion sometimes so you watched one and then commented the opinions stated in it word for word and framed it as a prediction
Card based combat is always a no for me. It takes control out of the players hand. You can build your best well and still end up screwed by bad pulls or shuffles by the cpu.
I have to disagree. I had the EXACT OPPOSITE experience as you. I had to slog through the (admittedly fun) combat to get to more of the dialogue and character interactions.
Well I mean Firaxis is adding 4 dlcxx so with 4 new playable characters, all new stories for each and all new enemies, so this alone will definitely make the game better than it already is.
as someone who play JRPG were character LOVE to repeat what was already said i do think the interaction are fun to watch it play out but it does seem to just go on and on there a surprising amount of dialogue in this game
I think that this game should have been released a few years ago. Right now people have a huge burnout with MCU, the owners have exploited the franchise too much.
@Fextralife In the intial preview you said it was 80% story and 20% combat did that change after playing through the entire game? The combat looks great the story looks blah (Im not a marvel fan, but liked the idea of playing B characters and then they had to add the avengers.... why ...just why?)
@@ANBU_Black_0ps24 by making it filler, giving it no purpose or tying it to nothing important or having to do with the story or characters’ development. By not having it advance the plot or the characters’ relationships or personalities or having it just waste time and take up space. By being redundant or otherwise ineffective.
Yea at least with xcom it constantly puts you into the action. All the dialogue and story makes this seem not as repayable definitely a wait for a sale game. No iron man mode literally seems like an xcom downgrade. Campaign is just a a story mode instead of a campaign
gonna be honest, as someone who loves the xcom games and probly played 1000+ of xcom 2 alone, i think the only thing here i careable is the combat side of things
I don't really feel like you're supposed to talk with everybody. I feel like you're supposed to pick the Heroes that you like the most on a single playthrough and focus on their stories.
I must be a "Marvel die-hard", because I couldn't get enough of the character interaction. In fact, I was very disappointed when the three side stories (emo kids, shop class, and book club) concluded, because it dramatically lessened the out-of-combat portion of the game. I'm looking forward to the DLC (which I haven't bought yet) adding more to this. A side note on the character creation: I just started my first "New Game+", and I was very disappointed that none of the appearance unlocks were available at creation time, and I basically had to go in and re-create my character after finishing the intro mission. That was just plain lazy on the part of Firaxis.
Thank you very much for your review, you just saved me $99.00. I’ve learned my lesson from that Avengers game For the people that like card games, have at is boss I’ll pass and go buy God of War Ragnarok then Wow 2 for 2 first Pokémon scarlet and violet and now marvel’s midnight suns 2 games I was really hopping to buy just don’t cut it Is it me?, am I too burdened out of video games? Anyway, dude you are now my new reviewer Great review
No mention of microtransactions, obligatory 2k launcher or that they basically disbanded whole midnight suns devteam few days ago? They already wrote down the game to minimize losses and no future support should be expected.

@@FullMetalB I liked three houses. I spent around 60 hours on it, for the single and only run I played on it. (And it was the shortest: against the church) Guess why I didn't do any more runs even if liked it? Because at least half of those 60 hours have been spent running around inside the monastery talking to people building affinity, doing small errands and micro managing. And it's booooring. I know I could essentially skip all that part but that way I would have lost half the game and basically all the lore and characters background. Also, the timeskip arrives around halfway those 60 hours which means I should have played those initial 30 hours doing the exact same things 3 other times to be able to get the game's full story. Terrible. Awakening and the other Fire Emblems on the 3DS didn't have all that time consuming nonsense and I frankly found them so much better than Three Houses. 🤷🏻♂️

So far enjoy this game except for the story and activities. I skip past everything to just play battles
I’m having a great time with Midnight Suns. It’s been a long time since I stayed up until 3am with any game for a long time.
Did the exact same thing last night. Very fun game!
You still like it today?
@@nomenclature7662 of course! Especially with how games have been releasing lately! Replay ability is high with this one.
Do you work for them?
@@rogerh2694 Me? I sure hope not or I’d be unemployed at this point.
Having sank about 30 hours into the game, I’d say this is a pretty fair review. While I did really enjoy the out-of-combat parts of the game, you can kind of tell that it’s not Firaxis’ forte in how to pull this sort of thing of.
I don’t think they have ever done anything similar in terms of story. I think the closest was xcom chimera
Loved your Elden Ring guides, can't wait to see what you do for Midnight Suns.
War of the Chosen was amazing for sure added whole new dimensions and levels to a new play through.
Can you let me know how to do this
Is there a companion or loyalty mission for heroes? Like maybe this whole Supes alliance talk sims thing would be better & more engaging if it also have stakes to combat missions. Just like with almost every other RPGs with party or companions/partners characters.
There are legendary abilities you gain from these dialogues.
And there are "challenges" where you'll have to have a hero perform some actions during a mission (activating their special power x times, etc...)
But both are lackluster, clearly they should have designed some story missions (at least one per hero) balanced aroun their specific game mechanic.
@@jacquesjtheripper5922Fun is subjective
Lmao
The only problem I'm having so far is my characters slow walk...when I saw that, I immediately thought I was going to hate this game. Please, never hire that mo-cap person again for any games, ever.
Wow! Incredibly comprehensive and concise review
most important part of this was replayability which you spoke volumes about and I cannot wait to get my legendary edition tomorrow. thank you for the great review. everything I thought about prior to watching it you read my mind and had an answer. I hope with fans supporting it financially firaxis will see the potential in this side venture from xcom amd we will see dlc or added factions enemies
Ew. 100 dollars.
The steam version denuvo is unoptimized mess
@@prototype8137 I'm glad I waited, just picked up the legendary edition on sale for forty bucks.
Ok, so according to most reviews, good combat but bad story. I will buy it half price in sales then, to even things out.
$9 on steam right now.
got this game on sale weeks ago, blown away how good this game was, the battle is crazily deep with insane a positioning system that is so crucial despite you team as a whole having only 1 move every turn.
Thanks for the insights, probably gotta skip it at launch 😓
I’m on the fence. I want those skins! I was set to preorder it but after watching many reviews I’m reconsidering it. The livestream also kind of turned me off from the graphics
Never buy games at launch. These days games at launch are basically beta versions. The “Enhanced Edition” 1 year later is what I consider the finished state.
Michael Jordan is the fextralife of basketball. Killer content.
what you said about story being mundane was what I thought it might be considering from what I saw in the midnight shorts that was released recently
Really good review. You give a thorough description of the systems but also your opinions on them.
Basically a "get it on a holiday sale" kind of thing for 60% or more off the ultimate edition?
@@SuperDemo19 yeah honestly
@@J-leaf Sounds good, it's on sale right now for 49.99 (ulti edition), but I just got XCom2 Ultimate Edition for 9.99. So it's tempting to pick it up for the half-off price, but I feel it'll go on sale better next holidays a year after release. (also it would really be on the back-burner anyways i think)
Thanks for a reply btw I appreciate that!
At first it is bad, but it grew on me after a while and I even LOL a few times at some of the interactions. It has its charm.
It's very cringe like current marvel movie cringe. Seriously they never stop telling jokes
Hardly anyone cares also this more bioware more accurate unless you want random teeth's and emo style.
I'm all in, Deadpool as the first playable DLC character in January... Legendary Edition pre-ordered... waiting for Friday
I bought the PC version and am dealing like everyone with bug issues (long loads, crashes, lag, etc).
From what I have been able to play so far I like. Hopefully the issues are fixed soon so I can put more quality hours in.
To fix the loads put it in your ssd.
Are you saying this because you’re a casual gamer who isn’t used to any other genres of video games?

Sidenote: i feel like you should probably state the fact that you're playing on low graphics settings right off the bat so more casual gamers dont get confused 😭
I got this game knowing nothing about it and it became one of my all time favourites
I wish they would have expanded upon Marvel's avengers game with all of these characters.
i waited for a sale and got from 50%, now is time to try it.
Excellent review. I can always depend on you guys for the truth. Thanks!
Oh man, the problem you had with the story being more of a focus is exactly what I want, I'll be picking it up on sale right now!
I was confused creating a character… still, been waiting all year for this!
Still waiting for Baldurs Gate 3...
U gon keep waiting
I bought it the day they announced... Almost 3 years later, literally at the exact same story point they were back then.
They just announced that on December 14th we'll get a Panel for Hell that'll give us a release date, which might be early nect year.
Some BS really. DOS2 still smashes Baldurs Gate 3
For real…I’m tempted to buy the demo but I feel like it would just be a tease
I love the writing and dialogue in this game, I don't understand why people keep complaining about it. I did not come in expecting a magnum opus from a classical novelist, the story is fun, the dialogue is funny and full of heartfelt moments, that's all I cared about, and my expectations have been met.
Same, the Story and characters, exploring the abbey grounds area nice change of pace outside of combat, I am in no rush to get to the end of the story, I want to 💯 this game and be ready for future dlc.
@@JasonNapalm72 I am like 80 hours in and still not close to done, I love how huge this game is, it's so full of content.
I agree dude, this games has made me laugh countless times and I'm only at the beginning.
Blade was hilarious as well
Because from a writers perspective, most of the dialogue is about as mundane, generic, and uninteresting. I'm glad folks like it, but after playing other games with BEAUTIFUL writing this is a huge letdown.
If this is all that's expected from the Comics fanbase I'm not sure what else to say.
The card battle system kills it for me. I would rather see remasters of the X-Men Legends games.
I love your reviews. You helped me play so many good games and saved me from so many not so good ones. Thank You. 👍
Keep up the good work bro 😎
Followed you from Elden Ring
I really like all the interactions. Games great in all aspects. Best game I’ve bought this year.
Agreed and for its price, it doesn’t feel or look like a next Gen game.. I HATED walking around the abbey grounds can’t even walk over a pebble to take a shortcut somewhere.. the combat kept me in the game.
I think im going to give it a shot PlayStation has it free for premium members so it won’t hurt the wallet any worse thanks bro
this game owns so hard. it's such a great foundation for what could eventually be a 10/10 all-timer strategy game that's also fun for casual players. alas a confluence of circumstances led to its being a total failure commercially but i'm glad that it's basically now become something of a cult classic at least. i hope if 2k has made firaxis bail on it entirely that someone else takes the inspiration and applies it to maybe a less high-budget title. i'm not even a marvel fan though and i thought the license was used exquisitely, both in and out of combat. so many (gasp!) moments.
Great review. Hard pass for me $70 on ps5 no thanks
Exactly what I expected. Oh well, plenty of games to play in the meantime, will likely pick this up by late 2023
Ever wanted to join a book club? Me neither. How about with Wolverine and Blade? Awful.
That was a tipping point for me. Who is writing this stuff. You have decades of already written dialogue with these characters. Just meet wolverine in a bar and shoot pool or go on a bike ride with blade hunting vamps. It's not difficult.
I see this being a new franchise
Hi should I buy *Marvels Midnights Suns Enhanced Edition $19.59 or should I buy Aliens: Dark Descent $35.99?*
Feels like a lot of these negatives are literally subjective. All of what is said here could be said of fire emblem three houses. And that is a highly acclaimed switch strategy game. Same personal time in monastery, getting to know characters, turn based strategy etc.
So if this is like that games and seems to be, looks great
Marvel's Midnight Emblem: Three Suns
Making a prediction now that people will like the combat, have mixed opinions on the base building, and not be fans of the story

@@NikELbErGErBergel My interpretation here is that Fextra loved the base building of the Abbey
And looking at the reviews shows you were right
The combat is most certainly NOT more compelling than XCOM's.
Card based combat is always a no for me. It takes control out of the players hand. You can build your best well and still end up screwed by bad pulls or shuffles by the cpu.
Storm, Deadpool, Venom, and morbius are the first set of dlc characters
I have to disagree. I had the EXACT OPPOSITE experience as you.
I had to slog through the (admittedly fun) combat to get to more of the dialogue and character interactions.
I dropped by after reading the kind deed firaxis did for luke wiltshire. Bless you developers
"I'm looking at you 95% hit chance" say it with me kids if it's not a 100% it's 50%
Well I mean Firaxis is adding 4 dlcxx so with 4 new playable characters, all new stories for each and all new enemies, so this alone will definitely make the game better than it already is.
Very fair and accurate review

I’m on the fence. It’s on sale for the Xbox now, but I think I’ll wait and see if there’s a big expansion like for XCOM. Thanks for the review!
The quips made me borderline suicidal. Not EVERYBODY needs to be Tony Stark. It was constant. It drove me nuts.

I think that this game should have been released a few years ago. Right now people have a huge burnout with MCU, the owners have exploited the franchise too much.
Love the honest reviews
@Fextralife In the intial preview you said it was 80% story and 20% combat did that change after playing through the entire game? The combat looks great the story looks blah (Im not a marvel fan, but liked the idea of playing B characters and then they had to add the avengers.... why ...just why?)
I just started skipping all the story stuff I could lol
@@Fextralife yikes lol, it’s a shame they spent so much time on useless dialogue instead of making it compelling or competent

Yea at least with xcom it constantly puts you into the action. All the dialogue and story makes this seem not as repayable definitely a wait for a sale game. No iron man mode literally seems like an xcom downgrade. Campaign is just a a story mode instead of a campaign
Imagine wanting to chill and play ps only to play a game where you chill and play ps. 💀
gonna be honest, as someone who loves the xcom games and probly played 1000+ of xcom 2 alone, i think the only thing here i careable is the combat side of things
I think I'm the only person who liked the story and personal interactions.
I love simple easy y understand story, and enjoyed exploring the abbey and characters, plus the combat..
I don't really feel like you're supposed to talk with everybody. I feel like you're supposed to pick the Heroes that you like the most on a single playthrough and focus on their stories.
Thaths a sick review man
I must be a "Marvel die-hard", because I couldn't get enough of the character interaction.
I’ve learned my lesson from that Avengers game
For the people that like card games, have at is boss
I’ll pass and go buy God of War Ragnarok then

Just don’t be stingy with the games you play
What's with the 360/ps3 graphics, is the game too long?

How does the deck building compare to something like slay the spire? less complex? how deep can you get and creative?
So, it has the same boring aspects of FE Three Houses where you spend hours after hours running around a castle enlessly talking to people?
More: why can't developers make a strategy game with a compelling story like Stoic did with The banner saga?
@@azzart979 god, your first comment just makes me want to laugh in your face so hard.....but banner saga is absolutely stellar so I guess I'll refrain.
@@FullMetalB I liked three houses. I spent around 60 hours on it, for the single and only run I played on it. (And it was the shortest: against the church)
Guess why I didn't do any more runs even if liked it?
