Great job man. I've been in the business for about 30 years you get those from time to time no matter what you play I appreciate you showing the other side it's reality. I've been toying with the idea of doing my own blog in my city . This is really an inspiration thanks again for sharing.
DJ Jay Book, there will be weddings where people will not dance no matter what. Being a wedding DJ myself I have learned that Friday weddings that start between 3pm and 5pm ofter will end badly. Maybe badly is the wrong word to use but Friday weddings usually result in people leaving early because: 1. The guests have been up since early morning; 2. the guests probably came to the wedding straight from work; 3. often guests coming from work are looking for dinner (the wedding dinner) and will leave. To help combat this problem, I have created multiple ways to have the guests interact in the wedding reception process. Also, I stretch out the wedding reception and blend it into the wedding party. This process seems to work very well at keeping most of the guests at the wedding to the end of the wedding reception. (Note: My weddings are three-part, with the wedding reception being the second part) Out of the one hundred plus weddings I do by myself every year 5 will be like this. And don't forget about the guests that come to the wedding and say "Feed Me!" "So I can go home." Keep doing what you are doing.
Stuff that could of save your dance floor when it dead.. Ebay foam party glow sticks.. 200 plus sticks for 80 bucks. My go too to get the dance floor cracking !! Just have the box ready for hard gigs like this!!
I appreciate your honesty. Most guy’s will only post or show all the hyped-up videos. You’re gonna have gigs like this from time to time. Any mobile dj who says that every gig they do is a home-run is LYING!!! LOL! Keep doing what you do my guy. Holla.
It happens bro!! Sometimes the crowd ain’t poppin no matter what you play. As long as you walk away knowing you gave your best effort and incorporated the bride and grooms requests you did your job Fam!
As a wedding DJ, I usually go by what the B&G think. IF they are satisfied, then i am satisfied. I say this, cause I have done weddings like this, and was so disapointed until the end of the night, the B&G are like: That was tha BOMB!!!... oh really? oh ok. Seriously, sometimes it may just be that "that" crowd, just aint into dancing, they want to "chat". Or like you mentioned are from out of town and are bouncing early. I always check in at some point with the B&G and see how they liking it. In the end, its their night.
You did a great job on set-up and performance. You took care of business while the guests were there! It’s impossible to control how long guests stay because there are too many factors i.e. babysitters, job schedules, distance etc. Keep doing your thing!🌴🎶🎤
Yeah, I didn't see anything bad happening. The folks that wanted to have a good time had a good time. Sometimes the wedding party and the guests are into dancing, other times they're into socializing and taking pics. I love having a packed dance floor as much as anyone else, but sometimes people are just into the vibe and not necessarily dancing the night away.
It happens.... young peeps on their phones. I cater mostly to the older guest. They hardly go out.. they don’t care much for phones... so I try to recreate new and old memories for them. It always works for me.
Brother. Most of my poor crowd participate been at weddings. The take away is this, weddings aren’t clubs. People tend to leave early, especially the older crowd. I just try to focus on the happy couple, the bridal party, and their close friends who tend to be the ones who stick around and dance. And when you really think about it, the most important thing to worry about at a wedding is to make sure your ceremony music goes well, make sure your reception music goes well (first dance, single ladies, etc) and to give a few crowd participation songs/slides. AND play to the couple. If they are young, play the hippest music and take them back to high school. DJ Greg...
It wasn’t you bro, it was the crowd. Same thing happened at my wedding. They couldn’t get drunk so, they were all gone after the second song. Her family. They wanted to party more than what we planned for them. It was about us and we had a great time with the wedding party. Had over 150 guest.
You did your MAIN JOB and that was to cater to those paying you... no doubt the bride and groom. Their wedding and you had what they requested... so overall I'd say it was a good gig!! Absolutely dig the setup and having some HELP is a plus in this business... TRUST ME, I KNOW as I've done most solo😁🎧🎶👊🏾💯
We’ve all been there. There is a venue close to my home, that is ideal, but I don’t play there anymore. The bar is portable, and set up usually always two rooms over. The brides and grooms always don’t take my advice and have the bar separate from the dance, thinking people will have a place to “talk” away from the music... Well, that is exactly what happens, and people leave the dance floor never to return. Hang in there.
Yes! Indeed they can’t be all homeruns. Myself and everyone else have had these kinda gigs but would never share it on fake social media. You’re an absolute pro and this gives me an idea of something I may get into (the wedding side). Much love!
I feel you bro I've had some that were straight up strikeouts another gigs Straight Up grand slams as long as tou gave them what they wanted then its all good and its on to the next one
I love the gravity clips. Bought a couple of sets off of amazon. They are so much better than just wrapping the cables around the speaker poles. Makes your set up look super clean.
I feel like a lot of people just do not dance. You can put All The Bangers, Line Dances, etc, but they do not always go out on the dance floor. The kids of today rather go on the dance floor and go Facebook live or go on Instagram and take pictures as a group or take selfies. I did notice that the dance floor was a bit small for that room as well. I feel that if a dance floor is bigger in size, it is easier for people to have plenty of space to move around. All Peace and Love. Keep doing your thing DJ Jay Book.
What up Jay Book! Sometimes all gigs can't be home runs. Good job rocking the tracks bro. Keep winning and spinning. It's your boy DJ Kel in the building. #Salute
It does happen sometimes no matter how good you are and what music you play in the crowd just disappears not much you can do about it especially if there’s out of towers
I’ve had events like that before, and at the end people came up to me and said I did an amazing job 😂 It made me feel better because trust me I was hurt deep.
It happens- not all events are going to be perfect- I just had a dud not too long- I thought it was me but at the end- It was not me- It was just the crowd it self- as long as we get paid- we go to the next one- enjoy.nice set up
Hey Jay very nice setup. I think you did a great job and from time to time gigs like this happen to the best of us. It was not your fault. A lot has to do as well with the bride and the groom participating. If the bride and the groom don't care, people won't care either and leave.
Same here brother. I feel you. At the end of the day, as long as you know you did your thing and got paid, that's all that matters. I don't dj full time like I used to, but I do know that people know a good dj when they see one and they spread your name around. That's good business and reputation. Big up to you and your setup. I need to get me a set of those LED uplights. Keep doing your thing sir.
This happened to me too, boy dont worry about that, for me it started out good, the dance floor was packed till about a hour in, it was down to the bride and the husband and 2 of the bride friends, so 4 people. I joined in on the dance floor and had a ball, the playlist that they gave me was the songs I liked as well so you dont have to ask.my friend took over on the mixer. The bride and groom had a blast including myself.
Hey Jay the number one thing I saw there was that there was no bride and groomthen it kind of gives everybody the green light just kind of relax I might be wrong but that is so cute which that has nothing to do with you you did what you were told and a lot of the great weddings are always people dancing its people just enjoying their company and then join the music cuz you remember those brides and grooms are up sometimes at eight 9 in the morning so sometimes they just get fatigued for the day and it happens
That's a good point about the bride and groom NOT being on the dance floor. If they're off somewhere socializing, then so are other people. If they're on the dance floor, then so are other people.
I have similar uplights made by Artfox but I’m using a Chauvet Obey 6 controller with wireless transmitter to run them. The dmx controller has presets that are great plus the music sensitivity knob makes it easy to dial in a good light show around the room. Only thing is the lights have the amber and white in the wrong order, I bought the ADJ hexcon controller to fix that but the mic audio sensitivity on that was really disappointing
Bro ur a great dj u brought the ice cream they forgot the bowl but u still ate! Great job big homie. About to start my first gig log Im following u bro
Ouch, subs in front of the facade? Drinks stands Jay?🍺. Love your videos. The Chinese uplighting looks great 👍. We’ve all had bad ones, it happens. Onto the next great party, don’t dwell on the past. Their loss.
Hey bro, sick setup! Mine looks really similar. The only difference it that my WashFX2s are screwed into the handle so that they are centered with my K12.2s. All you need are M8 bolts. Cheers mate, keep up the good content.
Bro you did your thing.. People seem like they were having fun... You had most people out there.. Not many people at the wedding ... So you did fine bro.
Some things are just out of dj’s control. Long distance smoking areas. A wedding that starts to late or to early. A bride and groom that doesn’t dance with the crowd. Not enough alcohol. Horrible food from the caterers. All these factors can run a crowd off. And actually playing to much music without breaks and to much dancing can do it with any crowd. Some of these things are not in our control so don’t be hard on yourself. We as professionals don’t get to pick the date or time of a wedding, or caterers or guests. Work the crowd you have and give it all you got. Great set up nice and clean.
Very nice! 😉 Beautiful set up. I just got a pair of moving head spots, and about to get the totems. I'm thinking about placing my totems on the far side of the dancefloor, between the crowd and dancers, to shine light on the side facing the audience. It seems to make more sense to spotlight them from the front. But it also means tapping down cords. So, 🤷♂️
I Learnt this lesson from TLM when I was starting out. Certain crowd leave party early and sometimes never get up to dance no matter what you play. However they ll sit and nod their heads which means they are feeling you. They just don't dance. Having said that I could see from your video there wasn't much crowd in the wedding to rock the dance floor imo. The few who came did have fun tho.
To be honest, when you invite people to a wedding it really consumes a lot of your time. Even as a DJ too. After you been at the wedding, go to the reception, wait for the couple, wedding party entrance, eat and maybe a a-slide or two, you are ready to go!! That’s why I charge accordingly for weddings!
I feel your pain. I do a lot of weddings and in most cases hrs go by between the end of the ceremony and time to dance so people take off as soon as the boquete and garter toss and the ones left are usually family and ones that participated in the wedding and they are exhausted by then. Your setup is super nice though. I’d love to have those qcs speakers
I concur with everyone else, I thought you did great. I, too have had some duds, where I went from packed floor to ghost town, once where half the guests left and the remaining went outside and smoked out the courtyard and gave me a nice little contact buzz as well....then I've just had crowds that I conclude either weren't really that hype to begin with, or hell who knows could've already been tired from the day's events and just wasn't up for a "party party" no matter what I played. It's always hit or miss, but yes we do take it on the chin because I do for at least a day or so afterwards I"m trying to figure out what I might've done wrong. But you got this!!!
When it comes to DJ'ing, we as DJ's have our plan of attack and usually it works out... But if your plan of attack is on point but the crowd isn't a party crowd, then no matter how many hits or gems you play, they won't dance! Those are literally the worst gigs on our egos but we have to just keep in mind that that's the way the cookie crumbles sometimes. I have way more dope gigs than crappy crowd gigs... Btw, great setup dude!
I’m not giving you a thumbs down however if you had an MC on the job somebody out there in the crowd to motivate these people the job would’ve been a lot better. You’re absolutely right not every part is a homerun but when you go above and beyond for your clients that’s all that matters.
J-Book I don't think that was on you. It happened to me before. The groom wanted to jump right into the hip-hop so I did. And shortly after, the older crowd bounced. Keep ur head up bro. OBW What is the name of the Chinese uplighting?
Yes this has happened to me also...and sometime people eat a bounce out😄👀. What time was the Wedding? Because sometimes if it's a evening wedding say 6pm 7pm older people might bounce out also. I always tell my clients, If you do not want your older crowd leaving let me play the way I played and I will mix in the songs you requested.
Why you use two separate controllers? Airstream should be able to control everything seamlessly. I have a similar setup but I run my chinese uplights thru my airstream
Dope work. I def like the setup. At ceremonies, with a separate sound, I like to hide the mic receiver behind the scrim or in the scrim, including the power and wires. Shot you a follow and thumbs up bro, keep rockin!
I've had those gig also. It unfortunately does happen. There's a lot of factors in why it happens, but it does on occasion. Keep up the great work bud.
how does the bass sound on these will this sound good in small hall with high ceilings. I got two Samson Expedition old speakers need to do a small halloween party 150 ppl any recommendations for setup. Need the bass to hit hard. One subwoofer or two for small budget. I have the Rane one what wires would I need??
OneOdio Fusion Wired Over Ear Headphones, Studio DJ Headphones with Share-Port, Professional Adapter-Free Monitor Recording & Mixing Headphones with Stereo Sound for Electric Drum Piano Guitar Amp www.amazon.com/dp/B07WT15ZQF/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_jGAXDbV63GYP6 Definitely worth a try...nice bass, and crisp mids and highs
This question is not directed at this video but to DJ's who set up P.A. for wedding and put the speaker(s) in the back of the ceremony area behind everyone so when the person conducting the ceremony speaks, the sound comes from behind the listener. Can someone explain this to me?
Weddings can be fickled so don't sweat it, most people are there to see how much who spent on what, and of course if it's on a Saturday most of your elders are gonna be up as soon as that cake is cut cause they are not under any circumstances gonna miss church. Don't think that it's you cause it ain't.
@@DjJayBook BUT< the up side, they came up asking for some very cool old school stuff...I played everything from Beasties to freakin Kool Moe Dee and One Way.
Great Gig , we as DJs cant always espect the crowd to be there all the time. But you did a great job with the production. I would love to get some Ideas from you. Ill add you on social media
Jay Book or any DJ reading this, Do you prefer the subs with the poles and tops connected or the subs separate from the tops, and the tops on their own stand?(like you have it set up)
I always get better results with the subs together, and tops on stands. Look up the "power alley" phenomenon on any live sound website. It explains what's going on with the low frequency sound waves when you separate the subs.
@@iambobby3537 I also have 2 EV subs and 2 Ev Tops. Do you put them on poles or stands? And yeah Im not a fan of the subs out front either, to much can happen.
I think you did your job you know sometimes you can control people and sometimes people just not feeling it happens to everybody so don't even worry about it one thing I notice about the floor in there. that place.. it looks like they took the carpet off or something ? Or maybe it's just me. Anyway I'm new subscriber 2 U Channel
The last wedding that I did was like that. Looks like after the dinner when everyone got their belly full, some of the people left. It was just the immediate family and a few of their friends there dancing but everyone had a good time and I got a lot of comments.
Bro please replace those headphones man. I understand we gotta use things until the wheels fall off sometimes. But the aesthetics mean a lot as well. Keep equipment tidy maintain and replace when needed. And as far as the music shit happens it seems like from the footage u started off w the old crowd first and too long. Maybe some more line dances early or father/ son mother daughter songs (crowd participation songs).
Do you think it was the music? Hip Hop is a tricky one as alot of the older heads want 90s golden era while the young want whats current. Hard to please everyone. UK weddings tend to be 60s,70s,80s,90s pop music for a family audience. No Hip Hop weddings here!

Preciate that man!!!!
Preciate it man!!!
Preciate it man!!!
Lol! Preciate that!!
Those totems make ypur set up so much nicer. You got it B
Preciate it!!!
That’s a great point!
That is very good info! Preciate it man!
Bro ur a great dj u brought the ice cream they forgot the bowl but u still ate! Great job big homie. About to start my first gig log Im following u bro
Ouch, subs in front of the facade? Drinks stands
Jay?🍺. Love your videos. The Chinese uplighting looks great 👍. We’ve all had bad ones, it happens. Onto the next great party, don’t dwell on the past. Their loss.
Luckily they didnt put them there. You are right
we've all been there Jay, just keep on doing your thing!
Preciate it!!!
Great vid. Im also wondering what you thought about subs together instead of underneath the tops
DJ Diamond Lee 👀
Worked out well but may have need a strap to keep them together
Man, I had like 3 events like this and there is nothing you can do about! Just take it how it comes! Keep up the good work!
Preciate it!!! All you can do
Appreciate the honesty man - subscribed.
No doubt! Always
Hey bro, sick setup! Mine looks really similar. The only difference it that my WashFX2s are screwed into the handle so that they are centered with my K12.2s. All you need are M8 bolts. Cheers mate, keep up the good content.
that's what's up
Bro you did your thing.. People seem like they were having fun... You had most people out there.. Not many people at the wedding ... So you did fine bro.
Preciate that man!!!!
This is true! Preciate you!
Just got the grips, they are awesome on my poles. Gigs like the one you had, EVERYONE had. so we are with you homie. Keep it rockin.
Lol! Preciate it!!!
Nice video DJ Jay, I got a question how did you manage to put your wash lights on top of your qsc, thanks greetings from Boston.
I take one of the bolts out of the top of the speaker and screw it down to the lights handle
Pretty sure you booked a good 3 or 4 gigs from that wedding jus from set up alone. The lights looked amazing.
Preciate it man!!!
So, 🤷♂️
That should be interesting, but in a good way!!!
Another great job Bro!!! I enjoyed it...especially when U spun Cameo's "Candy"...I was like "Oh no he didn't"....
Lmao!!! You know I had to!!
Well, I still think you’re a great person and a marvelous DJ. Thanks again!
Preciate it!!! Thank You!
I feel you on that one the DJ in thirty something years some of the gigs can be home runs we wish they all were you still did a great job
Preciate that man!!!!
Yeah they did!! Preciate it man!
Yeah they did! Preciate that!!!
I agree they can't all be home runs.... set up was on point though...
Preciate it!!!
So what was the issue you mention of the subs from a previous video?
Great video. I like your truthful videos!!
Lol at 8:58 ... that one kid dancing reminds me of how they dance on Charlie Brown. Good shit bro ... keep it up
😂🤣😂 lol!
Lil homie was killin it 😂😂
To be honest, when you invite people to a wedding it really consumes a lot of your time. Even as a DJ too. After you been at the wedding, go to the reception, wait for the couple, wedding party entrance, eat and maybe a a-slide or two, you are ready to go!! That’s why I charge accordingly for weddings!
I agree!! Thanks Man!
How did you mount those wash fx to your tops . Also how did you hook up the wireless lapels.
Speakers have bolts in the top and I just screw them down. Lapels are hooked up with xlr into the mixer
I appreciate the transparency. Nice setup!
No problem!!
Preciate that man!!!!
Happens to the best of us djs! Never take it personally.
Preciate it man!!!
Lol! Preciate that!!
They can't all be gems! Been there too!
Preciate it!!!
which speaker you like better qsc kw122 or k12
Def. The KW. Wood always sounds better
Preciate it man!!!
I’m not giving you a thumbs down however if you had an MC on the job somebody out there in the crowd to motivate these people the job would’ve been a lot better. You’re absolutely right not every part is a homerun but when you go above and beyond for your clients that’s all that matters.
I like that perspective
J-Book I don't think that was on you. It happened to me before. The groom wanted to jump right into the hip-hop so I did. And shortly after, the older crowd bounced. Keep ur head up bro. OBW What is the name of the Chinese uplighting?
Yes this has happened to me also...and sometime people eat a bounce out😄👀. What time was the Wedding? Because sometimes if it's a evening wedding say 6pm 7pm older people might bounce out also.
I always tell my clients, If you do not want your older crowd leaving let me play the way I played and I will mix in the songs you requested.
Wedding was around 6 I believe. I agree
Not sure on the name of them
Thanks.
Why you use two separate controllers? Airstream should be able to control everything seamlessly. I have a similar setup but I run my chinese uplights thru my airstream
Haven’t had time to take the time to program them into the bridge yet. Once the season slows down I will attempt to
Dope work. I def like the setup. At ceremonies, with a separate sound, I like to hide the mic receiver behind the scrim or in the scrim, including the power and wires. Shot you a follow and thumbs up bro, keep rockin!
Preciate it!!!
Hi and thanks for your video's!!
im wondering what type/company are the chine's lights you menschen in the video at 5:25
thank you
its cool bro, appreciate the vids, how you like dem wash lights? stay up bro✌️💯
Loooooooooove them!!!
I've had those gig also. It unfortunately does happen. There's a lot of factors in why it happens, but it does on occasion. Keep up the great work bud.
Thanks Man!!
How did you like the Chinese uplighting
They are not bad for now.
how does the bass sound on these will this sound good in small hall with high ceilings. I got two Samson Expedition old speakers need to do a small halloween party 150 ppl any recommendations for setup. Need the bass to hit hard. One subwoofer or two for small budget. I have the Rane one what wires would I need??
If you’re looking for Bass then JBL prx speakers are what you should look at
why are u using a DMX controller for uplights? why not just the ADj bridge?
Haven’t had the time to try and program them into the bridge. Once the season slows down I will try
Cool and if you want suggestions for new headphones the OneOdio from Amazon sounds really crisp and clear

Definitely worth a try...nice bass, and crisp mids and highs
keep doing what your doing brotha
Preciate Bro!!
You got a link for the chinese lights?
No not for those
Don't sweat it bro you straight 👌
Preciate it!!!
This question is not directed at this video but to DJ's who set up P.A. for wedding and put the speaker(s) in the back of the ceremony area behind everyone so when the person conducting the ceremony speaks, the sound comes from behind the listener. Can someone explain this to me?
With my experience it covers the entire crowd from back to front
Weddings can be fickled so don't sweat it, most people are there to see how much who spent on what, and of course if it's on a Saturday most of your elders are gonna be up as soon as that cake is cut cause they are not under any circumstances gonna miss church. Don't think that it's you cause it ain't.
Preciate it man!!!
Enjoyed the video, I wanted to ask what is the price range that you charge for a gig like this. Appreciate your time!
What are those chinese uplights? Where did you get them? Great log!
Bought them off of another local dj
@@DjJayBook ahh I see sir. I'm looking at adding uplighting and have been shopping around. Expensive!
Same thing happened to me last weekend! The people only had about 40 people show up! I was playing to about 10 people for the last hour.
Its just crazy to me
@@DjJayBook BUT< the up side, they came up asking for some very cool old school stuff...I played everything from Beasties to freakin Kool Moe Dee and One Way.
Great Gig , we as DJs cant always espect the crowd to be there all the time. But you did a great job with the production. I would love to get some Ideas from you. Ill add you on social media
Preciate it!!!
Hey Jay, I think you need to re up on some on some equipment, tape on the headphones some lights out in the ultrabar 12 lol jk.
No but you may be right ultra bar may need to be replace and my headphones seem to be discontinued . The search begins
Wow really beautiful and professional
Preciate that man!!!!
Ok I will check that out. Appreciate it
I have 2 12" Ev subs that I stack and hide behind the facade. I just don't like the look in front . Someone should design a cover.
@@iambobby3537 I also have 2 EV subs and 2 Ev Tops. Do you put them on poles or stands? And yeah Im not a fan of the subs out front either, to much can happen.
@@AGB1021 My tops are on stands located behind the facade, closer to me. I have a 65 panel facade
Don't beat yourself up!!!! EVERY DJ/Performer has a "Not-So-Good" night every now and then for no apparent reason. Even the Greats!!!
Preciate that man!!!!
Preciate that man!!!!
The last wedding that I did was like that. Looks like after the dinner when everyone got their belly full, some of the people left. It was just the immediate family and a few of their friends there dancing but everyone had a good time and I got a lot of comments.
Yeah, it happens!
A setup that size how much should u charge
It varies based on budget, place, and needs
No spotlight on the entrance?
I had it ready but then they switched up the entrance on me so thats what they got for last min
Man sometimes there’s not much you can do if the crowd isn’t into it. I had a gig Saturday and they brought it! Check it out if you get a chance!
Can Do!!!
Already done! Lol! Preciate that!!
What clip u using to hold up the wash lights on top of the speaker ?????
Just the handle on too and the bolt in the too of the speaker
Do you think it was the music? Hip Hop is a tricky one as alot of the older heads want 90s golden era while the young want whats current. Hard to please everyone. UK weddings tend to be 60s,70s,80s,90s pop music for a family audience. No Hip Hop weddings here!
No, more like people were from out of town
