Hi everyone, this is Streats TV, a food channel for every foodie lover. We strive to make food fun and delicious to watch!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If there is one must-eat dish for us Malaysians during Chinese New Year, it’s the Yee Sang (also known as Yu Sheng 鱼生), a Cantonese-style raw fish salad. Yee Sang is considered a symbol of abundance, prosperity and vigor and each ingredient in the dish is carefully selected to represent something good as we usher in the new year. The act of tossing Yee Sang is called “Lou Sang 捞生” and we need to say auspicious words or wishes as we toss it high up so that our wishes will come true.
We tried out arguably the best Yee Sang in Kuala Lumpur, from the historic Sek Yuen Restaurant where each ingredient is meticulously prepared by hand. Their Yee Sang only appears on the menu once every year, and it is so famous amongst customers that orders never stop coming in during the 15 days of CNY celebration. You have to try it out if you have the chance!

These restaurants are what keeping the traditions going.
Very heart-warming 😌
I attended a wedding banquet at this restaurant in the 1960s when i was a child. It was a real privilege at that time having to travel more than 50 miles from up north to dine there.
Isn’t it incredible how the restaurant has stood the test of time? Do you plan to visit again? 😄
I’ve tried it before and can definitely vouch for the yee sang at Sek Yuen, the best I’ve ever had! 😋🥰
We're here to vouch too! Their dishes are amazing as well 😋

Wow, this restaurant has been around since 1948? Kudos for keeping the traditions alive. I'll bring my family to try Sek Yuen one day! 😋
Absolutely legendary, they have been here even before Malaysia's Independence Day haha. Sek Yuen welcomes you and your family! 😇
I normally don't fancy Yee Sang because it's plain and boring, but this looks interesting and so much more fresh! Will try their Yee Sang next year 😱
Ikr! Some Yee Sang can be boring with just really normal ingredients. This is amazingly delicious 😋
Visiting this video again now that it’s almost CNY hahaha 😂
It's the time of the year! 😍
Oh interesting, I didn't know the Chinese toss this for wealth and luck. Such an interesting culture 😀👍
Haha thank you, Summer. Yes, it's a traditional culture that we do every Chinese New Year 😇
Since 1948. The restaurant is older than Malaysia history which its independence at 1957.
Exactly! 74 years and counting 😲 and they have been making their dishes the same way since their restaurant started in 1948.
What do you call that foods?
Which part of malaysia is this place?
Hi, Teodora 😃 It's called "Yee Sang" (in mandarin) or Prosperity Toss (in English). This restaurant was filmed in Kuala Lumpur. But this dish is only celebrated by the Chinese Malaysians & Chinese Singaporeans ☺
How much is the Yee Sang in a plate and/or in a box?
