Zack Snyder shouted "LEX LUTHOR!" and Jessie Eisenberg heard "RIDDLER!". Eisenberg is now required by law to wear hearing aids.
Eisenberg did a horrible job at BvS but I don't think he deserves AIDS for that..

I’m not gonna lie: I love this episode. Lisa Edelstein does a phenomenal job bringing Mercy Graves to life, and it’s kind of a shame that the character hasn’t been incorporated as well into the comics because she adds a whole new layer to Lex’s villainy. She’s also such a sympathetic character in her unwavering yet hopeless devotion to her boss, who will never see her as a valuable part of his life. The moment where he abandons her and the look she gives is absolutely heartbreaking. And to think that Brainiac, another one of Superman’s greatest enemies, takes a backseat compared to Luthor and Mercy’s relationship. This is such a compelling episode on so many levels!

@@usamazahid3882 She was also the voice of Kya in The Legend of Korra. Her voice is so distinct (and pretty hot, IMO), and she's so good at voice acting!
@@emersonplays4282 They even lex a gave second bodyguard named Hope but made them both Amazons and then had Ceres or someone kill them. Basically they never really gave her the same respect they gave other characters that made the jump to the comics from the cartoon. For some reason the comic writers liked the idea but not the character, which is a real shame.

Seriously the writing in these shows we saw as kids is just fuckin top tier whenever we comeback and rewatch as adults, it just hits differently 😢
Lex has been portrayed in different lights in this series. His opportunistic, narcissistic and all around sociopathic. I don't think he loves anyone but himself and he if he does never above himself.
So Mercy being as streetwise and cold may have believed he cares but that's because he's manipulative.
This episode has an important event that will have repercussions in the Justice League Unlimited animated series.

"Important" isn't a strong enough word.
If you're looking for comparisons for Mercy and Lex, look at Harley and the Joker. Both Harley and Mercy were created for these shows, and both Batman and Superman had the same producers, so whether it was intentional or not, there's definitely a similar dynamic in both Lex and the Joker having sidekicks/assistants who compliment them well, and remain loyal to them despite a lack of reciprocation.
This is the first of like 5 REALLY fun episodes in a row, with pretty long running consequences

Some versions of Lex start as a pauper, born into a section of Metropolis dubbed the "Suicide Slum."
Probably one of my top 10 S:TAS episodes. I loved seeing under Mercy's facade & even Brainiac testing Luthor's patience & bravado. Plus, Brainiac is always a win, especially when he's voiced by Corey Burton.
Even after being treated that way by Brainiac, he sees Mercy as nothing more than a tool. That's what makes Lex a villain. He could have learned something from that experience, but he did not, because he's the only one who really matters in his mind, just like only Brainiac matters in his.

Worlds Finest was frequently shown as a 1 hour movie. It was unusual to see it in parts first back then. It was a little bit of an event at the time too, was something of a standalone direct to video movie

This is such a good episode that I dont think gets talked about enough. Its surreal seeing Brainiac break Lex to his core and exhaust him to the point of desperation for food/hunger and seeing how pathetic hes become almost like a peasant, and of course Brainiac is not human so he has no comprehension of what humans need nourishment or rest. Mercy Graves is also a very underrated character in Superman media and though this show doesnt show us her origin I like to think Lex has programmed this sort of co dependency in Mercy that no matter what Lex does to her she will will always still come running back to him, similar to how Joker abuses Harley, but Lex doesn't use abusive tactics but more like Lex using some sort of IOU against Mercy so that shes forever loyal to Lex. In other media Mercy is depicted as a cyborg or someone given cybernetic implants from Lex.

That's giving a very interesting depth to a character with just a few lines of dialogue. What happens in Hollywood that they don't learn from these gems that were: "cartoons for children"😂
This one has the greatest far future payoff in the Justice League's show
I do hope she continues with Justice League after Batman and Superman (just make use you watch Batman Beyond first).

@@EalainEP True, but you'd want to be familiar with Batman Beyond before to reach the JL episodes that tie in. I suppose she should work Static Shock in as well.
@@davidpumpkinsjr.5108 realistically I don't think she needs to watch static shock, it's definitely a series that is more focused on appealing to children. It has a hand ful of memorable episodes but the majority are kind of just very episodic. Also really I think the only JL episode that genuinely ties in are in unlimited and that's a ways away

Loved your reaction to that whole ending scene. Your reactions to this show and BTAS are honestly just the best, especially since you're really one of the few creators I know of that is reacting to these shows and really the only one reacting to STAS currently. So excited to see what you think of the Sub Zero movie, BTAS S3 and the rest of this season of STAS!
Superman wears the super suit under his normal clothes. When he needs to ditch his reporter outfit, it's collaspable, so he can either fold it to fit inside a small pocket in his cape, it fold it many times over into it's teeny enough to fit under his tongue. HIs super suit is made from cloth that he was wrapped in as a baby, which makes it indrestuctable (His mother was able to knit it thanks to Baby Clark's heat vision to sperate each strain of Kryptonian yarn.) His normaly clothes are made of Earth materials, and an explosion would only serve to destroy his street clothes, and reveal his super suit underneath.
I am also looking forward to World's Finest (DCAU's finest?) But I was also looking forward to this one too!

If you think Clark not wearing his suit is dangerous then you should see the millions of times Peter Parker's been swinging through Queens with no suit. There was even a story wear he had no costume so he asked the Fantastic 4 for a costume and a brown paper bag to protect his identity XD
Lex Luthor is more than capable of doing good for others, and he wants to. He really does... But... He NEEDS them to know it was him that saved their lives, and he NEEDS them to be forever grateful to him for doing so. It's why he and Superman are such great foils for each other.
Superman will never understand Lex's selfishness, and Lex will never understand Superman's selflessness. Otherwise, they might have very well been allies.

Does anyone know to what extent meg plans on watching the dcau? I knkw its a lot but getting into btas and stas feels like itd be rough to at least not watch justice league or at the least batman beyond to get a lot of emotional pay off
I'm sure she intends to watch Justice League, I'm less sure about Batman Beyond but still pretty positive.

Clark's sleeves were rolled up, but when the explosion destroyed his civvies, the long sleeves of his supersuit were just there... like.. had they been rolled up too under the shirt? Or is this one of those things we not supposed to think about? :P
Maybe it's just me but i feel like Mercy's never the same after this episode, almost like the events here left her kinda hollow

I do like this episode and I agree with a lot of what you said. However your statement that all billionares should go through something like this I don't universallly agree. It is true that a disapointing amount of people tend to become spoiled and fit the bad stereotype but not all of them. In this universe Bruce Wayne is the most obvious example of how not all rich people are bad. Again a lot of the rich in real life fit the stereotype but not all of them.
Finally your question about damaging the sun normal missles will not do that. The sun has such powerful radiation and heat that it will destroy and blow away ALMOST anything before it even gets close.

Watching this as a kid, I just assumed Mercy was a homeless person Lex took in, but there's a small subtle scene in this episode when superman grabs her shoulder and she flinches and backs away....I don't know, maybe i'm just looking too deep into it, but it sort of kind of implies to me that maybe she used to be a prostitute whos gone through some pretty heavy things in life.

2:41 The sun? Other than Superman IV actually making that a plotpoint, probably none. He's not punching them naerly hard enough and I'm pretty sure they'd melt or detonate long before reaching the sun and any radiocative material would be rendered ineffective due to the heat. Not to mention the sun is already a huge pot of nuclear esplosions.

13:55 Lex Luthor used to be more of a standard super villain (still genius), but John Byrne had reinvent the character after Crisis on Infinite Earths, he chose to model him afte the most evil thing ever - 80's businessman. And that's pretty much became what everyone thinks of when they hear Lex Luthor. Still gets his green-and-purple armor suit, but more often a regular suit is enough.

I feel in this episode it was also kinda implied that Lex and Mercy do got maybe a romantic relationship going but wow I jsut feel so bad for her like her & Lex are just humans & Lex pretty much groomed her to be his bodyguard & then we have Brainiac who is treating Lex like a slave worker not feeding him just emotionless and cold, Lex has emotions & cares but we see him just ditch mercy 😂 & then after she survives she just goes back to working for him
