What album or show should we head to next after we wrap up with both "Voodoo Chile"'s next week? You know I love Jimi so as long as it's not blocked I will do whatever...
Just wanted to point out that the version of 'Voodoo Chile' that you already played is the one from this album. It's a 'live in the studio' jam. That's where the confusion is coming from. There's still some major and great tracks to get into from his first two albums 'Are You Experienced' and 'Axis'. From the first: Red House (a very tight, beautifully played, 3-minute version [the UK album version is a different and better take]), I Don't Live Today, and Remember. From Axis: Spanish Castle Magic, Castles Made of Sand, One Rainy Wish, Up From the Skies, and Wait Until Tomorrow. But I don't think anyone would complain too much if you just went trhough both albums from start to finish. There's not much 'filler' with Jimi
There is also another jaw-dropping live track - Johnny B. Goode at Berkely. It's on the In the West album ua-cam.com/video/RSTC2egsnE0/v-deo.html There's a grainy video too, but sound is better on the album.
finish off Band of Gypsys with Power to Love and Message to Love!! Then head to first rays of the new rising sun! (Freedom, Straight Ahead, Hey Baby, Earth Blues!)
I'm 71 and I grew up in the 60s/70s. I was fascinated with Jimi, Cream, Buffalo Springfield, etc. in the late 60's. I listen now to Electric Ladyland and it was truly a masterpiece. To say he was ahead of his time is a misnomer. He was just a genius of his time!
My introduction to Hendrix came at BSU in 1969. I was ‘Mikey’ on my floor - I’d try anything. So I was first to try some ‘inorganics’ while my friends sat around and watched to see what happened. Nothing happened. They left. Then the trip set in. Alone and in a panic I ran into the halls, bouncing off the sides when one of my buddies grabbed me, took me to his room told me to relax and put headphones… on just as Jimi said ‘hey, take a look out the window and see what’s happening’. I did, pulling back the curtains just to hear him say ‘It’s raining outside man…don’t worry about that…lay back and grove…’ and it was raining. I thought I was talking to God or something….it was quite the experience. 😉✌️
This music is just Sublime timeless beauty, don't miss out on listening to 'Cry of Love ' and 'Rainbow Bridge ' two great posthumous releases!!!.... The Man lives still in our Heads and Hearts!!.......
❤ OMG Lee! someone stole my Are You Experienced album at a party! It is so good!! I was devastated, had to save up for it🙄😞 another! 🎉🎉🎉 I was 15!! That's the album that is full of the greatness of Jimi!!! 🥰🎶🥰
I would have loved to hear Jimi get into jazz. The first track you played gives us a taste. In Miles Davis' autobiography, Miles wrote about learning of Jimi through his girlfriend. She played his records for Miles. Miles became a fan and wanted to work with Jimi. Miles dropped off a musical score at the Electric Ladyland studio (NYC). He never heard back from Jimi. Only later did Miles learn that Jimi could not read music. I still think a collaboration could have worked if Jimi had pursued it.
Hendrix was already mixing his next album when he stopped everything to head to Europe to play some dates scheduled. After Jimi past, Eddie Kramer helped see the release of a number of albums containing tracks from the unfinished album Hendrix had left undone. In 1997, the Hendrix Family Trust or whatever its called assembled a reasonably complete collection of these recordings, from the original tapes now digitally mixed, and called it First Rays of the New Rising Sun. I'd suggest doing this CD.
Born and raised in the pacific north west like Jimi, it's never will it rain, but how much. Being surrounded by water and rain was inspiration to him, and thank God it was. Happy he left us with as much music as he did, but greedily wish for more. Glad you appreciate him like you do, Lee. Love sharing his greatness with like minded people, so many thanks. Blessings all. Rock on!
And we who were born and raised in Seattle can definitely relate. My dad’s conversation starter was always, “think it’ll rain?”… kinda rhetorical in the NW
Two of his best songs that most casual Hendrix fans don't know - 'House Burning Down' and 'Burning Of The Midnight Lamp' off this album. He only had three studio albums while he was alive, this was the last one. He had recorded a lot after that, and was pretty close to releasing another album when he died. Not sure if you've done 'Axis Bold As Love', that had a lot of great stuff on it. There was a really good documentary made about him in 1973 that was relased in theaters back then, and the soundtrack to that is fantastic. All live stuff, except for the acoustic version of 'Hear My Train A Comin'. I'm sure that's all out here on YT.
So great to hear/see a young person grokking Jimi so deeply. I'm almost 74 now; he's been my music icon all along the way. When I heard he had died, the darkness was deep, indeed. Rest in peace, Jimi. And, THANK YOU.
So, the rain starts, he starts grooving to it, slips into the dream of 1983 a merman I should turn to be and moon turn the tides, then comes back to the rainy day, that is how it goes on the album, full concept, only Hendrix!
Jimi Hendrix Produced & was playing on part of 3 different band's albums, including Paul McCartney's Brother ,Mike's Band " McGough & McGear (2016 remaster)" on the song Ex-Art student , & a Band called Cat Mother & the All Night Newsboys/ Play on Jimi.
Apart from the obvious studios jams, I hear Jimi spent an inordinate amount of time in several London and New York studios re-doing and overdubbing guitar lines, bass lines (Noel was often busy with Fat Mattress) , percussion and backing vocals. He was determined to create something bigger and better... House Burning Down is still astonishing but always closely linked with Voodoo Chile (Slight Return) in my mind. Weird to have them separated.
LOVE this part of the album. I play EL and Axis all the time; I recall Jimi standing in that purple spotlight back in '68. I know what you mean about the sadness; what could have been. Jimi was a genius, just brilliant. He was a very sensitive guy, though, and I think he needed a break from the music business, just not a permanent break! 🎸😢🎶
You can tell he felt very deeply. All of the best do. That’s why we (people who feel deeply, not the best lol) run to substances and other people. It’s the only thing that cures the ache.
Well you did do those songs young man. Well time you move to the Cry of Love Album. Songs to Start on this album Ezy Rider, Freedom, Drifting. Well have fun with your Hendrix Journey. 🙂
Almost forgot how groovy this is. House Burning Down..his guitar is a vortex of fire, inter-dimensional towers of sound. Impossible to believe this was '68. Unless he was a time traveler too. Wouldn't surprise me in the least. I'm so blessed to have seen The Man
I always thought that these tracks were relatively unappreciated due to the way the vinyl release was made for the automatic record changing turntables of the day. Sides 1 and 4 were on one record, and 2 and 3 were on the other - so you could stack both on the spindle at the same time, and the record would drop so side 2 would play automatically after side 1 - and then you would get up and flip them both over to play sides 3 and 4. With this album, most of the most popular material was on sides 1 and 4 - so many casual fans played those sides, and weren't as familiar with the "Merman...", "Rainy Day..." and "Still Raining..." songs.
This is his masterpiece! The sad thing about that is that I don’t think he had even peaked yet, musically …I remember when this came out. I first heard it played through a homemade stereo that a buddy of mine made. We worked together in a Wurlitzer piano factory, at the time, so had access to speaker material and wood finishing chems. So good!
Just a heads up, This album wasn't recorded at Electric Lady Studios. It was mostly recorded at the Record Plant in NYC. Electric Lady Studios opened in around June 1970. Jimi only used it for a little over 3 months. The stuff recorded there is on the Cry of Love , Rainbow Bridge, and other releases after his death.✌️
Yeah, you are the best reactor/reviewer out there. You’re probably about forty years younger than me but you seem to have been reading my mind. All your comments reflect my feelings exactly. Uncanny!
In a couple of months do " Little drummer boy" for Christmas. When I first heard this when I was 15 and learning the Electric guitar, I was like WOAH!! 🤯
There is a tape on you tube of Hendrix with Paul Butterfield at I think the cafe Wa it’s the most jaw dropping solo I’ve ever heard ,it takes and touches you to places.I think it’s little wing ,
You should watch the expanded documentary, originally from the "Classic Records" series. It's called: At Last....The Beginning The Making of Electric Ladyland. It was included with the last 2 releases of the Electric Ladyland LP/CD releases.
Bliss. I have a bunch of photos of young Jimi playing in other folks’ bands on my studio wall. If you want a trippy trip in London, Jimi lived in Papa Joe Haydn’s house and the juxtaposition of two people I love is a real brainfuck.
You would enjoy the series of Winterland shows from October 10th to 12th, 1968. All six shows are available in SB quality except the 3 tracks on end of the Early show from the 11th. Have fun dude
You should check out The Cry of Love album, studio tracks that were completed before his death put together and released posthumously. You can tell the direction he was heading after Band of Gypsys and it is quite good and interesting.
Jimi was talking with Miles Davis about collaborating, perhaps with Paul McCartney on bass. It'd have been amazing but wasn't to be. My little brother's birthday is September 18 so he had a horrible bd in 1970. We at least saw Hendrix in San Jose in the. Spring. A few years later an collection of almost completed songs was released called Crystal of Love. It's worth hunting down. And of course his Woodstock Star Spangled Banner.
Voodoo Chile that you reacted to was the album cut. Its live un the studio, not in a public venue. Edit to clarify that you're talking about two different songs. Voodoo Chile is track 4, the 15 minute, live in studio, blues jam. Voodoo Child (slight return) is the psychedelic rocker that closes the album and was covered by Stevie Ray.
The real problem with most reaction videos is either they're pretending it's their "first time" or they're more interested in airing the own prowess as a musician. The only other reactor who seemed genuine besides you was a black guy, "Jamal?". Like you, he would become emotional with some of the tunes.
What album or show should we head to next after we wrap up with both "Voodoo Chile"'s next week? You know I love Jimi so as long as it's not blocked I will do whatever...
Check out one of his ballads: Angel, May this be Love, Little Wing or my favorite DRIFTING
Drifting

This entire album is so amazing, even over 50 years later!
Hell yeah. We were the grooves out on that record in the 1970s!!!
You are the best reactor to Hendrix. You get it. Thank you for playing this album all the way through.
Yes agree this Young Man does get the Greatness of Hendrix...
Jimi s mastery on the wah-wah
How great was that!?! Hendrix was in another Universe on Electric Ladyland, you need to hear the entire album. Enjoy!
🔥🎵🎸🎤🎶🔥
Jimi was beyond it all
I'm 71 and I grew up in the 60s/70s. I was fascinated with Jimi, Cream, Buffalo Springfield, etc. in the late 60's. I listen now to Electric Ladyland and it was truly a masterpiece. To say he was ahead of his time is a misnomer. He was just a genius of his time!
The epitome of cool. One of the best albums of all time. Jimi the GOAT!
Buddy Miles on drums, Mike Finnigan on hammond b3, Freddie Smith tenor sax.

Been there, done that. In '69 too. Glad we lived through it!
At least we know your answer to "are you experienced?"
Windowpane for the win 😉

Hey baby and Pali Gap from Rainbow Bridge.
This music is just Sublime timeless beauty, don't miss out on listening to 'Cry of Love ' and 'Rainbow Bridge ' two great posthumous releases!!!....
The Man lives still in our Heads and Hearts!!.......
Jimi Hendrix is THE GOAT 🐐
And groovy af 🕶️🤙🏻
Same level with The Beatles.
Very different musically, but both great.
Jimi brings back the Joy!! 🔥Always… Sunshine ☀️
50 years later & still better than anything today.
Making that wawa talk!!! House burning down has some awesome effects. Jimi and Eddie Kramer !! Great producer combo.
Jimi's hasn't been lost, as it is recorded. Through those recordings, he's left a legacy of INSPIRATION--and that's priceless!
SRV’s ‘Say What’ always reminded me of the ‘Rainy Day Dream Away’ groove with his impeccable wah pedal mastery. Kindred spirits…
One of Jimi's concerts was canceled because of rain, so he wrote " Rainy day, dream away " in his limo :)
Still so familiar after many years of not hearing these. Crazy! Thanks so much!
Hell yeah!!!
That really made my day. Today has been amazing. Thank you ❤
Plain and simple it makes me feel the way it sounds…which is great
❤ OMG Lee! someone stole my Are You Experienced album at a party! It is so good!! I was devastated, had to save up for it🙄😞 another! 🎉🎉🎉
I was 15!! That's the album that is full of the greatness of Jimi!!! 🥰🎶🥰
sounds like a panther growl at the end of house burning down ;) ✊
YES! The deep cut best jimi material
He shouldn’t have deep cuts with how short his career was but here we are. And it’s beautiful. Haha

@@hongfang2348 the world might not have been ready for that much cool in one room
His next scheduled album was to be with Miles Davis. Can you imagine that level of musical genius on one record?
Buddy Miles on drums on the Rainy Day and Still Raining cuts. Mike Finnegan on organ.
Ok saw you discovered that lol.
Hendrix was already mixing his next album when he stopped everything to head to Europe to play some dates scheduled. Baddest electric cat of them all..
The Electric Prophet From The Acid Age,,cleansing us from our musical sins.

Jimi was unique no question ❤️
The conga player was a NY cab driver that picked Jimi up. Jimi invited him to play.
No, Larry was in The Serfs along with Mike Finnigan and Freddy Smith recording their only album on Capitol. Jimi heard them and invited them to jam.
Best reactor on here you REALLY feel it keep it up brother, lots more amazing albums from 1965~1975 era!

Jimi was so good. It is sad to think of what could have been. But, all we can do is be glad he left us what he did and enjoy it.
